China's Zou Kai wins the gold medal in the men's artistic gymnastics floor exercise event at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Japan's Kohei Uchimura won the silver medal in the event with Russia's Denis Ablyazin winning bronze.
Artistic gymnastics was introduced at the very first Olympic Games in 1896 in Athens, and has been present at every edition of the Games since then. At the beginning, it comprised disciplines that are difficult to qualify as "artistic", such as climbing and acrobatics.
The foundations of the Olympic gymnastics programme were laid at the 1924 Games in Paris, when the men's apparatus individual and team competitions appeared. In 1928, women were included in the Amsterdam Games. It was not until 1952 that the women's programme was developed, with seven events, and then stabilised at six events as from the 1960 Games in Rome.

Zou Kai has 6.9 difficulty value, a good form but a small hop on his last landing. Uchimura has 6.7 difficulty value, very good form but 3 small hops on his landings. The final score is very fair to both excellent gymnasts.

@@deinemutter7397 I was thinking the same thing so I looked it up. *When two or more athletes record the same total score, the one with the highest execution score finishes ahead. If the execution score is the same, then the one with the highest D-score finishes ahead. If the D-score is also the same, then they finish tied.

Yeah, Kai has a real serenity about his work doesnt he? such stoicism, and also, on a physical level, he appears deceptively slim; it belies his huge strength and power. He has a very peaceful, tranquil aura about him too; you can tell beneath that calm exterior there is the strength and mental focus second to none. I like him a lot, hes very technically correct isnt he?

Of course i support zou kai, and he's done excellently. But i have to say uchimura'd finishing twist jump (whatever it should be called) was so clean and elegant. He was steadily rotating his whole body about his head. His head was almost still in the air with his body twisting and rotating perfectly. What an eye treat to watch.

The scroll that Zou Kai hold for celebration says :" Five golds, top in China."(五金冠九州) Because this gold made him the most gold decorated olympic player in China, with 5 golds in gymnastic. Just in case you are wondering.

Men’s floor routines are focused more around difficulty and execution of the tricks rather than how pretty they are. In women’s artistic they focus a lot on dancing.

Levic0rpus everything I said was correct. It’s because of a really old rule. Men’s was based on strength. When women’s gymnastics was added they feminized by adding dancing and music.

Zou Kai improved immensely compared to his performance in Beijing 2008. He is much smoother, standing more firmly and seems to be more confident too.

Thanks mrorz. I work with Charlie Tamayo and yes, dalton performed the Tamayo NOT the hypolito. The Tamayo is a layed out double Arabian and the hypolito is a full out of a double Arabian

Depending on their shared events (vault and floor), I would say men's floor can be more exciting, due to the immense power, but women's floor is so fun and exciting. I still like men's better, though. I've never seen vault.

To this day this final bothers me. I'm sorry, but despite slightly better landings, Zou Kai absolutely should NOT have gotten an E-score so high. If gymnastics actually rewarded stellar form like Kohei's and deducted for tiny form breaks like the ones Zou Kai had, there would be an extra .5 off of his routine at least. If you slow down or pause every single one of Zou's flips you see flexed feet, crossed legs, and bent knees. They're all slight, but should still be deducted. If you pause any of Kohei's flips mid-air you won't see those same form breaks. Unfortunate

not to be picky...but ablyazin's second pass is a front double twist into a double front. a two and half twist would have him facing a different direction and unable to punch into a front double.
