its simple, capitalistic country only when domestic companies compete to each other. when dealing with foreign countries, first sanctions, then military intervention provides "fair" competition, eliminate it to the ground with tomahawks... so basically, till usa impose sanctions and ban everyone to trade with target country, they force target country to negotiate with bully and provide all kind of "deals" in exchange for sanctions to be lifted. so, secure market and resources for usa, eliminate world competition, have advantage in any of the deals what brings money... that is the recipe what usa uses for decades to secure its prosperity.

So lets say Im an American consumer. And I purchase a ZTE phone from a third party, on Amazon or Ebay, whether new or used. Does that mean it will not work (using my Att sim card)? Or it does not get updates or warranty coverage?

On an apples to apples comparison the US economy has five times the income that China has with one quarter as many people. It is by far the most powerful and productive economy that ever existed. If you violate US sanctions openly or by any devious method, there will be economic hell to pay for individuals, companies, and entire nations. It should be written on ZTE's tombstone America spoke but ZTE didn't listen. That goes for everyone including our false European friends.

ZTE makes one very nice phablet phone the Zmax pro that has good specs and a nice large screen. But like with any other phone it is not to be trusted. The only thing that sets the Zmax Pro apart from maybe other phones in the market is that it serves Chinese intelligence than perhaps the western ones. To me that does not make much difference, it's a liability either way.
What if China decides not to sell anymore to U.S. ? Dont they make 92% of all computer componentes? Can the U.S. create such a big infrastructure to deal with that issue,and build the componentes themselves?
Wait, all joking aside, you cant legally ban someone from developing an OS licensed under GPL. Which literally both the core components that make up android OS; Linux and Java; are licensed under. Banning from the play store isn't an issue; since it is a service provided by Google. Although that does nothing in consideration of the absurd amount of workarounds for that.

Use china hardware, use own developed os, build websites that teach people how to flash rom, and make anroid rom available, google apps too.. Use "diy os" and "hack zte phone to android" marketing strategy. Of course sell the phone cheap. Lots of people will buy the phone just for the experience, no need to worry too much for after sale services.

ZTE CAN'T COMPETE IN CHINA. ZTE is geared to compete outside of china, they have no market share in china. ZTE will be forced to fight their way into their own home chinese market and they won't be able to do it.

well,it might be a big pain for China and Chinese companies at presedent. however, for the long been, U.S. will make more competitors in those areas. Business will never be hard as before once China get those technologies sooner or later. Chinese has no way but do everything by themselves. eventually, the battle will be more intensity in the future. who has the tech who will win.

what the hell? android is based off linux... sure, they can ban u.s made apps but there are a bunch of theres developed all around the world. mabe ZTE should do what samsung does, make their own app store and **clone other apps on the play store**
This is great, the downfall of Google control through Android. It means we humans will have to get something that works anyway with out their Android. Replicant or similar will be the new, Ubuntu or similar Linux. Yeah to freedom!!
