I have a guy who comes into where I work with millions into his watch collection and he runs a construction company I’m sure mark will be fine spending a few mill on some watches 😂

He probably never really noticed the actual movement in a complicated watch to appreciate it.. once you see all the little springs, wheels n gears, it's pretty interesting.
There are obviously gradations of difference, but in general, when you don't have much, you buy budget watches. When you can finally afford expensive watches without going broke, you show your upgraded status. When you have super high status, you don't need expensive possessions to show your status. You revert back to the cheap and trusted.
They all tell the time I've never been about looking good its like spending 15 mil on a race horse and it never wins a race you go to the knackery & pay $50 and its had 10 starts winning 10 mil & that's been done before
These rich guys don’t spend a penny on watches. Having them wear them is pure advertising for the company. These companies can show the poor folks the billionaires are wearing their watches and have the millionaires pay retail plus markups for them.

If I was top 5 richest I don't think I would care about buying anything somone else makes, literally everything would be custom made by a company who's job it is to make everything custom for me. I wouldn't care about watches but if I did I'd have my own designed and built.
If I was one of the richest people in the world no way would i spend 5 mil on a watch $50 bucks at the most this is to much like gloating to me I'd rather spent that money on a revamping an old motel or shopping centre for the homeless or saving animals or something I'd live in a 2 or 3 bedroom house drive myself around money doesn't make you happy in the long run.

Even if you're a billionaire, buying high-end watches is a mental disorder just like gambling and collecting shoes. NO ONE should be spending even thousands for a watch. Hundreds of thousands or millions is insane. A $100 watch is going to tell time just as well as a $100,000 watch and you can only wear 1 at a time so stop wasting money on watches.
why do people not say the same about cars? all the same reasons apply, at that level people only spend that much because of labour hours and limited production at that level. People make watches that expensive because they were heavily valued in the 1700s-1900s. 100 k does not sound that unreasonable when an independent takes a year to make that watch.
with that argument, thousands of dollar TVs , jewelery, fast cars and expensive food should not be bought either, because of this "Mental disorder" hundereds of thousands to millions of people are employed in the luxury market, and would make them all jobless because you should not buy these watches
Mechanical watches carry your legacy forward, while so-called smartwatches will just end up in a garbage dump after 3 years. Mechanical watch = Legacy Smartwatch = E-waste
