Lascia ch'io Pianga - I love that song so much, it gilds anything it touches. I remember seeing Machinations on Channel 4 (a series on automata, featuring Paul Spooner) ages ago and trying to make my own Paul Spooner jointed person. The idea of a puppet without strings or rods, or any mechanism making it move, but that you just pick up and it dips and rises with your hands and fingers - or in this case a machine - is quite magical. Love it!
Not everyone knows about the painting "In a Turkish Bath" so all I was seeing is a motor powered donkey powering a cake mixer which then had cloth placed over it and was covered in naked dolls. Very confusing from that point of view, but thanks to you I understand now. XD
That is really artistic, awesome stuff!! ...Kind of Tim Burtonish but with a more poetic yet dark vintage 'claymation' thing going on... I really like this video, I can see that in a black painted, ambient spot-lit gallery in a glass case. Nice work!*
The donkey at the bottom is walking on Ingre's painting "In a turkish bath, which depicts ladies in the buff lounging around. This action drives the mechanism by which the carved ladies in the buff on top of the chalice are writhing around, thus echoing the painting below... What's not to get?
mesmerised! What's the motor driving it and how did you get the final movement so slow? I'm looking for one that runs about the same speed for a project of my own.
Love it ! But have to agree - camerawork needs to better observe the movement rather than to track it.This applies to most of the videos. No negative comment re-artwork/mechanicals. Just superb - as always.
I think it has something to do with the donkey working it's butt off so a bunch of other people can lay about doing nothing but enjoying the spoils of its work. Working class/upper class commentary? Who knows, I think the donkey is pretty cute though. :)
this reminds me of the scene where john cusack's character gets punched in the face by that little girl's father in BEING JOHN MALKOVICH. hahahaha Dare i call it creepy after hitting the "like" button?.....
