Place a 0V copper flood fill to the front and rear. It will help your pcb maker balance the depth of deposit in the plating process, making your boards more reliable.

Definitely interested and voted red, but also torn on purple. My preference is still to adapt a Pi Zero to this and worry about the sound later. I'm hoping the Zero will work as well with it.

The Zero does work but of course you have to add additional components to get all the features working and I couldn't be bothered with that as I wanted a nice simple plug and play solution that wasn't expensive for people :)

Shouldn't it run with a Pi 0? Was there a reason for going with a Pi 3?

It will work with a PI Zero but no sound over HDMI - and the port placement isn't great - Also I wanted to keep it as simple as possible for people to put together, so keeping the component list as small as possible :)

Do we have a cost and a list of parts as I would like one but do not want to do any soldering or sourcing of extra parts. I have both Spectrum cases and a standard phone charger I am feeling (Blue)

Purple please, I will stick it in a see-through Retroradionics case. Please advise as to which laser cut repro case would fit best as they produce a few variations for different boards already. Best regards from Australia!

Good job. I'm looking at the first seconds of the video and I'm puzzled about the routing of the track between keyboard pin 5 and gpio pin 6 (?). I wonder if it was possible to 1. Center the track 2. Avoid the bends OR Route the track from the top by adding some extra room on top and moving the other tracks accordingly. Also at 0:36 where is the third track from top connected to on the keyboard connector? It looks like there is a gap in the track.

Look at 1:08, it's connected to the connector. It slightly overlaps the board and makes it look like a break.

@@medes5597 not mu point. At 0:39 the track doesn't go to the 5 pin keyboard connector. It looks like it goes into a via, but there is nothing on the other side of the board.

Unfortunately with this particular emulator the PI Zero isn't the best choice and although the Zero itself is cheaper, other components would be needed to get all the features working.

Tengo una pregunta. Los teclados del 48 y del + son diferentes. El + incorpora más teclas, por lo que el mapeado del teclado podría ser diferente en los dos conectores de cinta. ¿Ha probado que funcionan todas las teclas del modelo +?

The pi/spectrum solution he's using works it out for you. They solved that a while ago.

Wow, I still have the 48K Spectrum in the large case, not the rubber keys, but I haven't touched it for 15 years or so. Don't know if it still works. But this project could be a way to re-use that keyboard case, if the original is not working anymore. And, with the HDMI I could use any monitor. (from The Netherlands). A real Dutch question: what would it cost me? (besides the tools, which I have).

They are… but with the continued shortage of PI’s I’ve been looking at other architectures also. I’m hoping to have an announcement on this soon.

Two questions: 1) Will this be available to those of us across the pond? 2) If yes, then will shipping cost me my first born child? I only ask that because of the shipping quotes that I have looked up within the past month for similarly sized and weighted items.

Hi there :) At this point I'm still determining what the initial order size should be and doing the final costings. Clearly I want this to be as accessible as possible but can't really influence shipping costs. What I can do is keep the package as small and light as possible to hopefully keep those costs low.

Unfortunately the PI-Zero doesn’t produce any sound through the HDMI port and figuring out how to get around that was a bit ambitious for my first project :)

@@TheRetroShack my bad, just checked the project and saw they're using the Circle library so that makes sense! It looks like said library has recently (as of 3-4 months ago) added support for using HDMI audio without the VCHIQ driver which may free up some CPU cycles but AFAICT ZXBaremulator isn't open source so who knows if anything will come of it...
