Wonderful to see a substantiated, qualified review compared to most other reviewers. Going to check your others. Recent & respectable Wave 2 G.hn reviews vs AV2 are almost non-existant, so this serves a great purpose. Nice job. Any idea if improvements can be had by putting RF power filters between noisy appliances and the receptacles they plug into?

Thank you so much! I wasn't able to test this. I suppose it's possible you would see an improvement but it's hard to say by how much. I would imagine a small change if any, so real world usage may not feel different. My higher end electronics are all on power conditioners with battery backup so the only noisy appliances I can think of are the Microwave and Fridge. I did test while the fridge was running and turning the microwave on and off did not make a difference on the outlet tested by the kitchen. The outlet was on it's own circuit however.

@@GadgetryTech How does it compare to HomePlug AV2 devices and does your house has 2 or 3-phase power (needed for full disclosure)? @DL Jacobs Try to get powerline coupler if you want to improve performance, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8XvdM5Ic2iw.html and check the comment section.

@@gavriloprincip9419 I don't know what country you live in, but in the United States we have Single Phase and Three Phase. The term 2 phase hasn't been used since the early 1900's. Three phase is only used in a commercial enviroment unless you had some serious machinery in your garage. 99.9999% of home have a 220 VAC Single Phase supply into their home split into 110 VAC for all except the electric oven, dryer, and maybe a 220V single phase large compressor.

Nicely done review. It isn't just USB transformers that impact performance. Any wall wart-type power adapter, such as that used by all laptop computers, will impact performance. A great way to filter those out is to plug power transformers into a surge-suppressing power strip.

What if your incoming power from your electrical power supply has a whole house surge protector between the meter loop and your main on your breaker box?
@jeschinstad
@jeschinstad 6 месяцев назад
I'm wondering about that myself. Did you ever find an answer? I would expect this to be a good thing, but you never know until you've tested. :)

I cannot find an answer anywhere, and your vid is the only one I’m coming across that has depth. My 2’nd PLA6456 Powerline light is blinking red and my pc’s internet is significantly slower than projected. Is there a fix for this that you’re aware of?

Pages 7 and 8 of the manual states red led means that another PLA is detected by data rate is only negotiated to 0-20mbps. I would try moving them around to a different outlet, do not use a surge protector, and keep it off lines that power A/C compressors and CFL lamps.

I have a simular issue though only in this apartment in which I just moved. In my old apartment it worked flawlessly. I am almost certain its the age and quality of your homes electrical wiring.

Hey, on my wifi 5g i get 100+ down and 5+up, on my zyxel pla6456 i get 48 down and 6 up. How can i fix this? Thanks
@GadgetryTech

There are so many variables with wifi and powerline kits it's hard to say. Try different outlets (if possible) on both sides to see if that helps at all. 5ghz wifi should have better performance if the connection is good, but you share that bandwidth with everyone. The powerline kit will have pretty stable performance but may not have the same peak transfer speed.
@marvinrobinson9624
@marvinrobinson9624 Год назад
almost certainly you can not. Stick to wifi.

What would you say is the absolute best/fastest powerline adapter? This one?
@GadgetryTech
@GadgetryTech 3 года назад
It's hard because powerline kits in general are fairly picky with electrical conditions. This kit has to be in the top 90% of the speed spectrum though.

Im staying with some family and im not sure if the room im staying in is on the same circuit as their wall plugs next to their fios router. The router is on the 1st floor while im on the opposite side of the house on the 2nd floor. There is a 2nd router upstairs but its still far from my room. their plan is 500/500. I want to be able to have my 8 devices hardwired, so they can perform better when streaming media or just using the internet. I've been trying to get my desktop to game stream to other devices, but im just not hitting the 30-45 Mbps the service wants. would the zyxel be able to maintain that if its by chance on a different circuit and sharing data on a hub or switch? or is it more than likely gonna fair the same as the wifi? for example today i was getting 10-15mbps when trying to stream a game from the desktop to a tablet with Steam. also so based on this review, the zyxel is better than the tp-link AV2000 right?
@GadgetryTech
@GadgetryTech 4 года назад
It sounds like you are likely to be better using a powerline kit like the Zyxel one in this review. The TP-Link AV2000 is a great product as well but I haven't reviewed it first hand. I would say that G.hn technology is better, but it's not always black and white. For the short answer, the powerline kit should definitely be better than 10-15 mbps. I would purchase a kit like this and test it out. If you don't think it's worth it you could always return it but it should be a bit faster than what you're experiencing now. We have a link for the Zyxel in our description above if you have Amazon Prime. You could return it through Amazon if you don't like it. Best of luck!!

If the house has one electric bill then it should work. If, however, the house has two seperate electric bills then you need to be on the same circuit as the router.

How to login in zenwell powerline and change user name and password?
@marvinrobinson9624
@marvinrobinson9624 Год назад
find the IP address of your powerline in your connected devices in your router. Plug the ipaddress in the address bar of your browser to pull up the powerline Configuration page. it will ask for the password. The default password is FLYPIG2400. You can review and change settings on this page.

I have an ASUS AC5300 is there a setting on it to make this power line connect? I have tried multiple plugs same room same breaker and it will not connect. Any help would be great thanks
@GadgetryTech

There's no setting, as one needs to connect directly to the router with an ethernet cable. As long as you use one of the LAN ports on the back, it should work without any issues.
