Created this channel to share over 40years hunting experience, with new hunters and old grumpy old hunters like me. Love the Aussie bush, camping, bushcraft and hunting. Not very clever with camera work, as I hunt alone, I apologise for sloppy bits. Now in the over 55 bracket,so if you don't like what you see, turn off. I don't mind. If you like it, please subscribe, leave a constructive comment or suggestion, animal libbers not apply. And I do love vegetarians, that's what I mostly hunt, they taste great. Thanks for watching.
good video and spot on. accurate shot placement and an appropriate projectile for the game and caliber is more important than big cals. i remember as a new shooter looking to buy a 30-06 in a moderate weight rifle and the LGS wanted to sell me a 9.3x62 🤥 great gun for a new shooter... not. these days i love the 7mm/08, 7x57 and 308. i have shot various mag cals like 338 win mag and up to 458 win mag for fun a time or two but its not neccesary in my view when i can shoot the others well without flinching. sambar aren't armour plated as some gun stores seem to think
stupid man. only take the males past breeding age. full curl. 13 years old. you are a first class loser idiot for being a hunter with no understanding of the wild animals you hunt.
I agree with everyone here, the .223 is more than up to the task of cleanly taking wild Goats, ive been using it and the .222 Rem all my life on goats and pigs, and not just up close either, my best shot to date was about years ago, i took a large Billy at a ranged 426yds with a single 55gn Sierra Blitz King to the heart DRT.
Pigs are a real problem here in California, but I’ve never seen one that big. The ones I have encountered are intimidating enough. Is it a European wild boar or still a domestic pig gone feral?
Here in Texas, we can deer hunt with AR-15s in .223. I would wager that most AR-15 owners have put significantly more rounds through their AR than all of their bolt actions combined. As a result, I can promise you that most AR owners are far better shots with an AR than with their “deer rifles”. Like you, I’d take a well placed placed .223 with a good bullet any day over an ok-poorly placed 30-06.
Great video and review on the scout, Another Aussie has made a load development video on the Ruger scout ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-s0QRoYkGw2k.html
Good to see you back MauserMan, picked a good weekend to go shooting. First time out, no benches or rests makes it dificult but nothing a bit of confidence building through practice wont fix.
Well that’s entirely true. In his defence, we could only sight it in at 25 yards as it was blowing a gale. Then the second time, we had sighted it properly, but he was anticipating the recoil. I had advised him to start with a 223 or 708, but he wanted “the power” straight up. You can’t beat years of practice. Thanks for the comment
Replace the stock to a synthetic Ruger and replace the mags with Magpul. The factory 10 shot mags are rubbish and fall apart under recoil. Hopeless only taking 8 rounds.
Hi again mate. I hope you are surviving lockdown if its effecting you. Two questions if you dont mind - 1. What caliber of Mauser did you use? I couldnt quite hear what you said. 2. I watched your video on .223 hornady v-max on goats, great shooting btw. I just bought a tikka in .223 and have some sako ammo for it. i havent taken it out yet because of covid lock down. You said the .223 is great against "soft skinned" animals. What animals do you classify as soft skinned? Thanks
Finally getting ready to go out again, after a two week lockdown to flatten the curve. That Mauser is in 35 Whelen, excellent cartridge. I would classify soft skinned, as foxes, goats, dogs and kangaroos. On pigs, it works best with head shots. Sorry for the late reply
Like chalk and cheese, very smooth and getting the trigger done helps in accuracy. I have bought a synthetic stock one with muzzle break for my partner as she doesn’t like recoil and it’s going to get the same. The trigger is way too heavy. Thanks for the comment
Thanks for the videos sir, I have been searching for tanning formula and leather lube everywhere but could just be found in Australia, and most shops don't do international shipment :( Do you know where those products can be found in Europe?
poeple need too get over themselves, a 22lr will kill a goat instantly with the right shot, you can mess up any shot even with a 30.06 without a clean kill. its not the tool thats being used, its the tool behind the the tool that stuffs it up. shot placement for any calibre is key.
So true. At abattoirs, they use a 22 to cleanly put everything down. The problem is some people don’t want to hunt animals anymore, they want to shoot them from their vehicles. Or half a mile away. Cheers
@@mauserman1613 the right distance for any calibre must be chosen, commonsense that is called. we shoot a lot from vehicles due to disabilities, but when i could, real hunting is done on foot. but from a vehicle its the same logic, in range shoot, if not dont. we spotlight a lot in australia.
Nice shot placement, what kind of round have you found to be the most cost effective/ accurate I’m setting up a ruger Scout and am hoping to use factory ammo out of it
I had a Spanish Mauser in the same caliber that had the same problem, what fixed it was polishing the back of the internal magazine. Sometimes the follower would tilt and get hung up on the rough backside of the magazine. Take out the floor plate, use a dremel tool and polish the surfaces in there to a mirror finish. Mine never failed again after that modification.
