I'm so glad I found your channel today! I've been binge watching since I found the 3 XL neutral journals video. Like I mentioned there I build and book bind XL and sometimes XXL custom journals that I fill with vintage and antique ephemera + my art. I either need to keep one for myself, or one day buy an XL journal from you (since I don't keep my one-of-a-kind journals). Thanks for the inspiration!
Love this absolutely gorgeous journal❤️ 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻and love the huge octopus page- it is so wonderful. Love the grunge of all the different papers and love that you tie everything in a story. New subscriber here and lovely greetings from 🇩🇪🥰
Yes it is gorgeous! I thought it was a great tutorial. Even with the going through of thread. Letting us know what can go wrong. Its very helpful. Dang thead messes up in a lot of differnt crafting situations & can cause a world of trouble. Thank You ❤️
I did your big soft cover tutorial.. Couldn't fix the tension on my sewing machine..impatiently decided to embroider the stuff I put on the spine. Girlfriend, I will be here until the end of time trying to finish it😱. I'm making a bunch to sell at a craft fair in September. You ever do that? I did tiny 20$ ones last year. Explaining the point of a junk journal to complete strangers was a great time😭 I think i sold just one. I intend to move up to keepsake tomes like this to make more.
@RunninUpThatHillh thats fun! I wish I could do a craft fair, but people in my area aren't interested in anything that costs more than $20 at a craft fair, so I know my journals wouldn't sell. I've also never had enough inventory around the time of a craft fair before. Right now is the first time I've kept a full Etsy shop, so it's something I could consider this fall.
Yes! I suspect in my rural area nobody wants to spend much either. These people don't know what they're missing!😂😂 Maybe they'd buy fat heirloom recipe books.
These are absolutely gorgeous! You inspired me to use my own paper, which I rarely do, but I have some beach photos and I want to make a journal/photo album. Thank you for the inspiration!
What I did is scan my photos and use those. If you have flat ephemera from the beach or something..scan it with the photo (make a scene with it, I mean). Kinda like making your own digitals...with your own pics. Or scan and print your photo on that see-through paper (forgot the name)...looks kinda neat.
I love it!😍🤩👌🏼 This is really beautiful! I got lots of ideas now 😊you did a great job on this too 👌🏼 Thank you for sharing this ❤️ I really like the details you put into the pockets and I love the digitals😍 now I want to go to the beach 😂
@LalasCrafting thank you! Seriously! I want to go a beach so bad after making these. They were sooooo much fun to make, especially with the summer heat I'm in now.
Got to see these gorgeous babes in person, and I can attest to their absolute LUSCIOUSNESS!!!! ❤ and the covers are pristine in person, just so unbelievably amazing!
🤗 New subscriber here! OMG!! I love everything about your style. I love all the nature/animal themes. And the darker colors that you use are beautiful. 🦊🐿🐾🐻🦔🦝🦆🦉🦅🦃
I'm new to your channel 🤗🤗. Oh my goodness this Poppy journal is stunning. It's nice to see a single 'colored' theme journal instead of a plethora of colors. LOVE LOVE LOVE it! 👏👏👏👏👏
Girl, you are so very creative with each & every journal. I can't imagine how much time & thought you put into them! I can't say I have seen any of yours. I don't just love! ❤
The last journal I made, the girl with the dragon, was made for me and is my first time using a large journal. I've always been intimated by them, but now that I've gotten the courage to make them and use them, I don't think I can go back to using a smaller journal. I'm obsessed with the feeling of flipping the large pages, of the freedom the full sized pages offer me with my mixed media art and collaging, and I really love combining my planner with my journaling, something that was too hard to do in a smaller journal. Also, I really love how I can use my art magazine pages full sized in my journal instead of folded in half sideways.
Your work is absolutely amazing. Would you help me understand the process of your cover with these pictures. Are they printed on a heavy paper, or did you print them on fabric? I just love your creativity.
Thank you! I print cover pictures on my heaviest paper and back them on cardstock or chipboard. I then build my entire cover (everything but the picture) and then glue the picture heavily and press flat for a while, then sew it to the cover to ensure it really stays on no matter what.
I always get so excited to see what you did that is new! I await your videos every month! love love your creative mind! keep up this extraordinary craft. I'm new to JJ and hopefully can make these beauties as good as you. Your awesome!
Thank you! I have a video on how I make the crinkled seam binding here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-t24hiwW0-ks.html And in this video, at around 7 minutes, I show how I build my tassels, although I feel like my method is always changing: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IMSR4y8eiKw.html
This was incredible! 🤩 Every moment was engaging and informative. Thank you for sharing such awesome content. It really made my day! Hugs from Juru Studio 🌷
Fabulous!!! I know you've said before in another video that you sew things on pages after you sew them in the books. Did you sew things on pages beforehand on this journal? I just ask because of the intricate details on some. I love everything you do. It definitely inspired me to step out of my creative comfort zone as well. I made a red journal like your poppy one because of you! It has 75 pages, but I just keep her on my shelf as decoration! LOL xXx Crystal
Aww, thank you! That's awesome! Most times, I sew on already built journals, unless I know I want to make it super decorated, then I sew on the pages before making it a journal. For these giant journals, it's way too awkward to try to sew after it's built, so I definitely do the sewing and decorating first on these.
Discovered your channel this week and watched several of your videos. Wow! You are incredibly creative and your journals are so very unique and amazingly beautiful. TY for sharing how to make your covers. Now, off to watch your video on the sewing in the signatures.
There are some pretty strong glues out there. Fabritack is something most people recommend, especially for fabric covers without sewing. I personally couldn't stand it and only use Art Glitter brand glue. It's super strong, and I've never had it come apart when I glue fabric to stuff without sewing. Although be careful when gluing fabric. If it's thin fabric, the glue will show right through it if it's not a super thin layer of glue. But maybe fabritack doesn't show through. I don't know.
This was a great teaching video. I’ve never done a soft cover but plan on doing one next. I would have never thought of how to measure and place the bottom of my pages correctly where it will stand up. I have a question on your papers. I love the subtle dye on them. I’ve never seen pages dyed green. Can you share how you did that? I love nature themed journals. Yours looks close to the look I’m going for. I’m very impressed and a fan! Thanks again.
Thanks for the quick answer. I’ll try it out. Do you have a teaching video on this? I couldn’t find one but I’ve subscribed ~ I think it would be worth it. 😊
@lisabristow7286 not yet. I just use a plastic bin, pour a bit of the rit dye in and add some hot water from the tap. Mix a bit, dip the paper in and pull out after a couple of minutes. Dry outside in the sun if theres no wind, or in the oven between 200 and 300 degrees (whatever temperature you are most comfortable with).
Love, love, love this! I could watch this flip through over and over. If I was to make a journal for myself it would be similar to this one! Well done!!❤❤
❤❤❤. I am glad u were able to make a journal that is just for you. I liked that u put in art magazine pages that you liked, I think that was a wonderful idea. Enjoy the journey of discovering who you are and what inspires your creativity. Blessings lovely from Colleen.
Your journals are my absolute favourites. I appreciate that you remind me that there are no rules. I love journals with paper and digitals that are on the scaled down side so that people can create their own art. Just love everything you make
