2002. Toonami on. AOL on the computer. Chatting/RPing with your best buddies. Snacks at the ready. And the only responsibility you had was going to school and doing homework. I would give anything...ANYTHING...to go back to those times...
....I heard this song playing in a fucking Bodega like three year ago and it triggered a core memory, but I couldn't remember where the song was from. Legit, I just found this by whistling the tune into fucking Soundhound. Technology facilitating my nostalgia. 😭
I sing the English version very often (even today) just because it's so beautiful and haunting. I know the Japanese version when it plays, but not stand alone. Anime songs back then were another dimension. And to learn how to say the Japanese words I had to constantly write down how it sounded to me rewound, listened again, write down. Repeat. Syllable by Syllable. And now they're all a part of me.
The final image and notes as they fade out fills me with a deep sense of sadness/loneliness. I can almost describe it as grief. It's probably just nostalgia as this song is engraved in my childhood like many others and life has become much darker, unforgiving. This song will always hold a special place in the world.
I was 6yrs old when i 1st heard this song i had no idea what i was watching at the time was called anime a cartoon was just a cartoon but damn im glad i grew up in that time period such a Golden Era.
Its been 18 years searching for this song. I never watched the movie nor did I know the name of the song. I only remembered the lyrics… after taking japanese class this year, I finally found you… my nature song ❤
For the nerds and weeaboos out there: oto no nai mahiru kaze ha tada akarui sukoshi nemutasou ni hanabira ga yureta nani ge nai kono omoi nee, hito ha donna kotoba de yondeiru no shiroi suna no tsuki toji kometa hanashi o hikari furasu you ni kikasete ne sotto itsuka shiru toki ga kuru no? mune no itami o soshite ima yori yasashiku naru no ne atatakai kono omoi nee, hito ha donna namae de yondeiru no shiroi suna no tsuki mabushikute mienai tooi mirai no koto kikasete ne sotto
I know I heard this in an anime some years ago but can't place it. It's powerful & emotional and reminiscent to a time when things were slightly better.
I had this song, a few songs from flcl/the pillows, a bunch of songs from cowboy bebop, a few from trigun, a couple from witch hunter robin, a few from wolfs rain etc etc . But I was never considered weird because I was all state in three sports 😂
I remember fighting sleep as my brother would watch Outlaw Star and hearing this as I drifted off into dreamland. Oh the feelings this music inspires are beyond words.
😭😭😭😭😭My childhood!! Toonami- OutlawStar!!!! I used to draw this when I was younger and between elementary and Highschool I drew nearly all the ending pictures from this❤️❤️I recorded it on a blank VHS tape and would go back and pause the screen for hours trying to get them down just right....until a friend showed me I could print them after school at the library😅😅 Damn it was such a time to be alive y'all!
Original / Romaji LyricsEnglish Translationoto no nai mahiru kaze ha tada akarui sukoshi nemutasou ni hanabira ga yureta One soundless mid-day, the wind was so cheerful. Tell me, what's the word people use for it? shiroi suna no tsuki toji kometa hanashi o hikari furasu you ni kikasete ne sotto Tell me a story that's locked away in the white-sand moon. Let me hear it as gently as light shining down... itsuka shiru toki ga kuru no? mune no itami o soshite ima yori yasashiku naru no ne Will the time come? When you will know the pain in my heart? Then you'd be able to be gentler than you are now. atatakai kono omoi nee, hito ha donna namae de yondeiru no Such a warm feeling... Tell me, what's the name that people give to it? shiroi suna no tsuki mabushikute mienai tooi mirai no koto kikasete ne sotto Lyrics for those like me who sing the song.
This song...takes me back to that golden Toonami / Adult swim lineup in the 90's. Hearing this for the first time was just mind blowing & has so much meaning looking back now. Thank you for this!
