I think "BookTube" is best when people share their thoughts on the literature they are reading. I don't find much value in channels saying that a book is awesome 10 times in a top 10 list...haha. Critical thinking and honest opinions for the win. Thanks for your channel and videos. Agreed - Jason's channel is great and I have found some great books and authors from his reviews.
I have not heard of Better Than Food so thanks for the tip off. Yeah, there might be more good reasons not to be doing the BookTube thing - I know that was your inclination. As with most things in life, except for the idea of community to it, I doubt there’s much prospect of reward (meaning even just good feelings). The whole jobs situation - even globally - is impossibly difficult. I’m insulated from it, at least for now, because age and other circumstances, but even then there’s trade offs. I remember the story of a woman who got caught in a lava flow with two friends, one on either side of her, and they both perished, because she just happened to have a tree behind her which diverted it - entirely a fluke. Working is like that. (Sorry to be so negative.) Yeah, wondering about the silliness of all this may well be a sign of sanity. 😂
Oooh thanks for the tag! (Sorry I just saw this!) I used to get so frustrated with the choose your own adventure (like goosebumps) because I'd want to change my outcome but not remember what page I just came from. I was an impatient child lol.
Great to have you join in on the event! Vanguard: Harbinger was a good read, but I think I only read the first book of the series. Looking forward to hearing your reviews of the books you've selected :)
Reading Star Trek feels overwhelming...I don't know where to start with the books. I think I'm just going to pick up the first used star Trek book that crosses my path and leave it to chance.
I feel the same way, especially for anything in the "re-launch" era. I've had a more enjoyable time so far sticking to the older "numbered" books that feel more like standalone episodes.
Yeah, I'm often impressed with the architecture and design here. There's a new flagship Apple store that is genuinely impressive, even though it's just a store, it's a great design. Will share some video of if soon.
So fun to see the Shanghai library! So many people! I've been to a few cool libraries around the world, and have toyed with the idea of doing a video about them, but this one is not one of them. Thanks for tagging me! Hopefully I'll be able to get mine up tomorrow.
This was great. I liked learning about Canopy - and seeing the library in Shanghai. (And a bit of spring. 🌸😂) Another BookTuber I follow @juliereadsherbookshelf just did a vlog to bookstores & a real nifty library in Nanjing.
Great video! I have only read Dan Simmons" horror novels but am tempted by Hyperion. I will read an Arthur C Clarke one day. Tanith Lee sounds interesting, I love Neil Gaiman. Maze Runner might be fun!
I haven't read Simmons' horror novels yet, but I can imagine they are incredible -- he's a very gifted writer. You might like Tanith Lee, look into her catalogue.
I think that I read that Arthur C Clarke years ago - it’s past remembering now. The dystopian maze runner series might be fun. Here’s wishing you success. 👍
Great answers! Thank you so much for tagging me and I'm sorry it took my so long to get to this video! The Choose Your Own Adventure books were so good back in the day. I would love to visit Tokoyo as well, my sister went recently and loved it. This tag has some great questions, I'll have to think about this one! :)
Added to my TBR! I love a book that engages the reader in thinking about philosophy and political structures. Thank you for the warning about the cliff hanger. 👍
Thanks for your detailed comments on Hyperion Cantos, good stuff and helpful. I have never read it, but have always heard great things about it. I am big fan of Dan Simmons (love "Song of Kali"), and will have to dive in at some point. I am with you on reading shorter novels. Glad to find your channel.
That's an excellent question and point -- yes, being 30 years older now has certainly changed how I appreciate it. Now I see a much deeper tragedy, that being the loss of young adulthood and hope across a generation of men and women.
