RANDOM TANGENTS
As Hawk lies on the bottom of the pool paralyzed he realizes the gypsy was right again. How long can he hold his breath before someone notices? Will he be able to pull through this to finish the remaining predictions?
Greg Hawk’s memoir of a life’s adventure takes a drastic turn at the end of a divorce as he listens to a gypsy lady in New Zealand predict things on the path ahead. Every obstacle on his path in life has put him on another tangent of learning and struggle, at times driving him to the edge of defeat.
During these years, death seemed to be a constant companion as he witnessed it, as well as facing it personally. As a soldier, a husband, a divorcee, an entrepreneur in three countries, to being a treasure hunter in the mountains and desert of the Southwest, he faced many self-imposed challenges.
I always love a good treasure hunting story. I have my own lost treasure channel so I KNOW how much time and effort it took for you to put this together and I appreciate it!
Thank you very much and you are right it takes a lot to put together a good tresasure story. I have been out of state working the last couple of years so am getting back into the swing of things. I hope to have several real good ones posted by the end of the year. I will check out your stories and thanks again. Cheers, Greg Hawk
The robbery took place at the stagecoach station. The hard part is locating where it was at that time. I always thought it was close to the spring and then I talked to some other treasure hunters, and they thought it was a short distance north of the spring. I think if you follow the old gravel track as it comes from the east and runs alongside the meadow and it starts to turn south across the end I would venture north for a while and check out that area. Hope this helps. Cheers, Greg Hawk
If you look at other youtubers who explore the southwest you will notice that they do not give exact locations. There is a reason for this, they know that if they give directions these locations will soon be overrun with people. It doesn't take much foresight to realize that when you post locations more people will go there and a few years down the road the location will be crowded, trashed, or closed to the public. In addition, by giving the detailed directions that you give it removes the sense of adventure and exploration for people who would like the intellectual challenge of finding places on their own. It's not an adventure if you're just following someone else's directions to a location. By showing maps and coordinates you are ruining what could be a challenging adventure for your viewers. I point this out as someone who has lived in Southwest for most of my life and who has visited very place you give directions to and then some. I saw you stopped by a sign that said, "State Trust Land" when all you have to do is fill out an online form and pay $6 to gain access. Please consider skipping the detailed directions and highlighted maps in the future. It's not just about you. Thank you.
Sir, I gave no coordinates on this video and only do so on certain ones. My thoughts have always been to include history into my videos, show the area I am talking about on a large topo map, and give some directions to get there. Once in a while I give some coordinates to exact spots where I am. This is all done to see if I can get the viewer involved enough to go out and explore and to experience the outdoors and the history of the area. Often times at the end of the video I mention things to see or do in the area if one goes. As far as the "State Trust Land Permit", I guess you haven't checked online in a while. The permit costs $15 for a single person or $20 for a family plus $1 processing fee if you do it online. This aggravates me for a couple of reasons. Twenty-five years ago, there were no fences, gates or signs telling you that it was state land or anything else for that matter. It was open range and when I go back now, I see gates and signs saying I need a permit, which I caved in and bought one, but what does the state do to enhance these areas? They surely don't do anything with the roads. They put up their fences and gates and collect another "Use Tax" for doing nothing. Have a Nice Day!
Learning how to apply physics in dowsing will decipher the element that was mined with using a dowsing rod load of copper or lead or zinc or gold or silver or platinum group, or any element that looks like what was mined, with starting the dowsing by tapping a 9999 fine one-tenth ounce dowsing rod load onto the modern light weight ball bearing dowsing rod's elevated acetylene welding rod that free spins on ball bearings. This accurately gauges all edges, exact center, depth buried with angle of deposition, and most important is grading or deciphering the amount of the dowsed element that is contained in the elemental mass that is being dowsed. In the 1970's my father and I reverse engineered the physics involved in dowsing with inventing the modern light weight ball bearing dowsing rod for applying dowsing physics in order to set up our old core-drill exactly on top of the exact center over some gold & silver veins that are covered with two hundred feet of glacier rock and till. These dowsing physics and dowsing technics are too important to be selfishly be taking to the grave, so I wrote a book to teach the world how to apply physics in dowsing and build the modern light weight ball bearing dowsing rod, with marketing the book at the lowest price possible. Read my book: The Art of Dowsing - Separating Science from Superstition ($14.95), by Michael Fercik. Then become a professional dowser by practicing my book's dowsing lessons of buried pipelines and electrical cables, tunnels and voids, precious and base metal placer and lode deposits, dowsing for treasure, dowsing for any element, amplified long distance dowsing from a moving vehicle, and dowsing on water from a boat. I hope dowsing enriches your life intellectually and financially.
Thanks Michael for the information on your dowsing book. Sounds interesting, so do you go out and use your skills for people or do map dowsing? Cheers, Greg Hawk
Glad you enjoyed it! We have been busy the last couple of years but now have several really interesting treasure videos coming out in the next couple of months so stay tuned. Cheers, Greg Hawk
At the time he traded the $20 gold piece in for the bottle of whiskey, gold was illegal to own. I imagine the guy who sold him the whiskey kept it quiet and who knows what he did with it. There was probably a black market going on trading gold for other things. As I understand it the US government gave people $20/ounce for their gold when they turned it in and then passed into law the gold standard which said gold would back the US dollar at $35/oz. People who had turned in their gold to the government lost $15/oz and the government won. This stayed that way until President Nixon repealed the law in, I believe 1971. From there the US dollar was never backed by gold anymore and you can see how worthless our fiat currency has become. Gold is now hovering around $2,400/oz. Hang on to your gold! Cheers, Greg Hawk
Sometimes it is the thrill of the chase that makes it exciting and sharing that, I hope, gets others excited enough to go out and experience nature and the rugged terrain that covers much of Arizona and surrounding states. I will be adding another three+ videos over the next few months so stay tuned as exciting things are going to happen. Cheers, Greg Hawk
@@randomtangents5204 there is a blue cover paper back in the library that tells a lot about a very similar topic and a slip rock in square rock in side is 6'/8'2 full boxes with locks 3 skeleton 3 rifles and half empty box silver and gold coins I found a bandet camp in the organ mtns..but I chickened out I like my freedom
Don't know if I will be up that way anytime soon but I can tell you this. As you come into the Pine Springs flat the road "Y's" and you go to the left and then turn back to the right where there looks to be a lot of old camp sites overlooking the meadow. From the edge of these trees we sounded a strip about 200' wide and clear out to what looked to be the spring setting in the middle of the meadow. We didn't pick up anything. Previously I used my metal detector and found old used cartridges dating back to that time period right around the tree that sets about 50' out from the stump that is at the edge of the trees where you park. Other treasure hunters have contacted me and believed the old stage station was not right at the spring but about a 1/4 to 1/2 mile away. I have not heard of anyone yet that has located the lost strong box with the gold. Good Hunting and if you have any more questions I would more than happy to tell you what I know. Good Hunting!
@@randomtangents5204 well when I have time to get back out there if you have time..I will contact you if you can point out what you know I don't know if I will be alone but I will share what I find. Between me and you and or another person...I have another pine spring location in Guadalupa Park were they say that the 3 boxes were taken in 2 different times but I found a foundation that measures the same as the depo station it is my opinion the original location and the other was made for convenience for the traveler's. I have a ground prob so to speak what you said makes since water is not the best place to have animals or buildings because of Flys and bugs high and dry would be my guess because visual and wind to blow away the flies I think as long as the people from Prescott didn't find it then I think it could be found..but I think it could take a few weeks to rule out the areas of interest. Do you know anything about most land mark in the area and north west of the area
the cattle guard was not put in till 1985. why the story was told could be many sinister things, But I dont blame Greg for his information. but something is not right. Be careful if you go out there. !!!!The Hills Have Eyes!!
Thanks for the information as I didn't know about the cattle guard being put there in 1985. I first started going to this area when you could drive all the way through to the mine itself and look down into the deep workings where they mined the silver. Things change over time and as you said keep your eyes open while back there. Cheers, Greg Hawk
Hello Steve, thanks for reaching out. You can order my book online through my website at www.desertroamerpress.com Enjoy the website and if you subscribe we notify all subscribers each time we post a new video or something that we think you might be interested in on our blog. Cheers, Greg Hawk
I agree, after researching more about Geronimo and his areas of travel, it is evident he never came this far north. The Indian face is still in the clliff face and their was an entry to the caverns below the nose of the face. There is a great overlook above this area and on top their are stacks of rocks which could have been a structure or shelter at one time. It was a great place to hide out with plenty of fresh water and watercress growing in the stream. Spanish suit of armor were supposedly found up this canyon so who knows the real tale. Thanks, Greg Hawk
Not a rattlesnake den as we crawled back in there about 150 feet. It is a sandstone cavern mostly and the water that filters through it in the lower part ends up in the creek as spring water which is pretty tasty. Didn't see any buzz worms up there. Cheers, Greg Hawk
Thank You! Jim and I do a lot of research on the stories and try to interweave history into the treasure story to make it interesting. Glad you enjoyed it! Cheers, Greg Hawk
One never knows what one may find. It is a large area to search but there is not a lot of trash that you have to worry about picking up with your metal detector. Good Hunting! Cheers, Greg Hawk
One five gallon bucket of gold weight about 800 pounds, I think a keg would hold about 5 gallon could be more , even so 16 x 800= 12,800 lbs of gold . this would of been quite the undertaking for 2 guys with one wagon in that terrain They could of ran off with it and no would know, I think the story is BS
They were supposedly nail kegs which would weigh 100 lbs. Being filled with gold coins would definitely be a lot more weight. I would say, if there is any turth to the story, that the kegs weren't filled to the brim. Still a lot of gold though. Cheers, Greg Hawk
When you showed the picture of the two level trough 6 months prior, what's that big mound in the background? The middle part of it looks manipulated somehow
Can't say what the big mound in the background is. I didn't photo shop or manipulate anything though, it was just different times of the year and from a slightly different angle. Cheers, Greg Hawk
Thanks for your vids Greg. I'm a subscriber and love your style! In fact, you inspired me to start my own channel and it's really doing great! www.youtube.com/@losttreasurestories
Wow what a beautiful place! So happy to have come across this video to discover that camping location. Definitely will be visiting that place later this year!
Bunk . Lost Confederate Gold stories fall apart when you bother to ask where is this gold from exactly? The thugs invaded from Texas to NM , got beat and driven out back to Texas , hungry , poor and whipped . We know Their funding plan : robbery and looting , which turn out a big bust . Best deeply researched book on this is BLOOD AND TREASURE, covers in great detail the total failure of the SLAVE EMPIRE MILITARY , Economic, Political , equipment, supplies, man power . Except for poisoning some Indians invited by ‘’general’’’\Baylor under a truce flag , abig flop by blow hard white slave empire invaders . No 17 kegs of gold . All these treasure stories are the same .
Sorry I am a little late replying. I get custom maps made at MyTopo.com. They have changed their format and the last time I told them over the phone what I wanted and they put it together. They may be back doing it digitally now, don't know. Good Luck! Cheers, Greg Hawk
Do you real think they walked across all those mountains to the silver king mine. I would think they would take a more flat land route walking. Just my thoughts :)
If you check out the topography of the area from the fort, crossing the Salt River, and then skirting the mountains all the way over to Apache Juunction they missed the mountains and being in the cavalry they knew the area. When they left the area around Apache Junction and went towards the Silver King Mine then they crossed through the mountains in hopes of saving some time. Cheers, Greg hawk
The area at Pine Springs has been searched many times and I don't know of any one that has found it. I found some old spent rifle cartridges dating back to the era in close proximity to Pine Springs. It is a good place to camp and get away so enjoy it if you go. Cheers, Greg Hawk
Thanks, I will have to research that robbery. This story was told to me by an old guy in Strawberry, AZ and I searched hi and low for it. Beautiful country! Cheers, Greg Hawk
I used to spend a lot of time in the Hassayampa riverbed near Morristown and found an old mining cart buried in the sand just South of the red cliffs about 20 years ago. Keep searching!
Yes, figuring that they were $20 gold pieces each weighing 1 troy ounce then we would be looking at 771.44 lbs., plus or minus. If there were 16 small wooden nail kegs then they would each weigh about 48 lbs. In today's money I can't fathom what that amount of gold would be worth? A Lot! Cheers, Greg Hawk
i came there many, many years ago with a gentleman named Dennis Kolb who frankly seemed a bit strange but had a wild story to tell...He told me he had found what he thought was the lost treasure of the Guadalupe site...Dennis, myself and two of my good friends made an agreement and we all went on a fun little treasure hunt to see what he had found!! When we got there Dennis showed us around, told us some stories about his searches and eventually took us up on a ridge to show us a large stone he had found that was cut into the shape of a tomb stone. Carved into the stone was a cross with a circle on top and a dot in the middle of the circle, an arrow and three lines below it. He claimed it was a marker stone for the location of the treasure. The four of us scooted the stone down the hill with cosiderable effort and loaded it in our truck. He told us the cross, circle and dot mean't gold, the arrow direction and the lines mean't "Spanish leagues" that led to a cave where the Spanish priests had hidden the donkey loads of gold and silver, covered it with skins and blew up the top caving in the entrance before fleeing from the Apache indians. We went to that spot and collected some of the stones around the base and loaded them up as well then returned to Houston. We took the stones to Rice University's history department and showed them to them. They wanted to know where we got them...We told them we found them in Arizona. They confirmed what Dennis had told us about the markings and asked if we could take them where we had found it...We said we couldn't remember how to get there...we collected our stone and left...Next we went to the geology department with the smaller stones and they said the fractures were about 300-400 years old from the source rocks.....All of this imformation kinda freaked us out...but it also confirmed what Dennis had told us. Because this was on BLM land we could not dig without government approval and any "Treasure" we found would be confiscated....so we just let it be. Dennis and my two friends have since passed on so we never returned to the site. I would love to see if we really did find the treasure or if it was just a BS pipe dream fantasy. Your video brought back some good memories I had from a fun treasure hunting adventure in my younger days....and a few regrets for never pursueing it to an end.....I guess I will never know for sure if it really was there? Since we removed the marker stone I think nobody else will be able to ever locate it either.
Did you see the real mission or the one they made for the public? The original one is a secret they. Dont let ppeople see or know about.do your research.llook behind what is said for your real facts.
I guess you are referring to the Tumacacori Mission. Through a lot of research by different individuals I believe the original mission was on the other side of the river where soundings have been done locating the old foundations. If you are talking about the Mission San Xavier del Bac, close to Tucson, then that is another story. If you research history and Father Kino's journeys and building of missions you will read where he first laid the foundation to this mission along the river bank. It was never finished and the one today is the one that was built at a later date. Let me know your thougths? Cheers, Greg Hawk
I get custom maps put together at MyTopo.com You can take several quadrangle maps and put them together at different scales showing different things and have them printed out to the size they offer. If you watch the video about the Walnut Grove Dam Disaster you will see their logo on the bottom right corner of the map I am showing. Let me know if you have any other questions? Cheers, Greg Hawk
Anyways 😅 He told me About This Same Story of The Gold Treasures in Different parts of ARIZONA 😲 I Did Believe him as all the other stuff Did check out a also got his spurs and Saddle Scabbard And 1938 Winchester 30 - 30 saddle Ring. A GREAT pick as I was Antique Hunting for 50 Yrs till 3 years ago as my health Went
Thanks Mike! That's one heck of a story and it would have been nice to have documented the stories that guy had to tell. That would have been a real gold mine in itself laced with the history of that era. Thanks Again! Greg Hawk
He Also had a Broken up Wagon in a Garage I still could read US on the sides ! I had not enough room in my trailer to haul it. He said The Bones of horse's we're all Around This wagon ! Up on the Rim Damn Mogallon Rim if that's spelled Rite ? Also he had collected A VERY Large Matate And Manos too all over Arizona he had at one Time 175 of them that could be hauled out by Mules. He had 4 pack Saddles for the Mules in VERY good Shape . He had also Weapon's for sale most were Relics he'd found in the 30s 40s into the 50s and 60s a bit of The 1970s then he retired . When in the hospital Many of these Matates were Stolen from around his driveway! I Bought a Remington Rolling Block that was STILL Ok to use With BLK powder. It was Found in a Cave of a Very Very Old copper Turquoise Mine and had a Strong Color on the Wood from the Mine he says was Found in 1937 ! 1870s Gun the Apache we're using the Area And most of Arizona as their Domain.
Mike, That is a pretty impressive story and too bad we can't turn back time and go back and talk to that old feller. I bet he was full of interesting stories and the wagon and bones around it could have been useful information is the search for the lost barrels of coins. Thanks for sharing the story. Cheers, Greg Hawk
@@mikelang8020 do you remember any other info about wagon and contents. Did he find rifles and gold coins. Or in what area he was in when he found the wagon. Thanks
OMG 😱 I was on a Trip in Arizona and I was in Town of Payson at a Antique shop to buy Stuff and got talking to a Older Man just hanging out at this store he says I've got Animal Skins Trap and A Wagon I want to sell ! It was 1984 the man's Name was Ken Kiggins,he had been a Federal Animal Hunter. He was Attacked by a Black Bear on the Ridge Area and Killed It, the Critter' was positive for Rabies So he had to go through the Treatments for this only known Bear Attack on a Human ! As I looked at the proof he had a Large Binder of his Attack on Newspaper clipping of it. Damn He also had a Pile of traps Marked Property of the Federal Government.
Our Government has airborne abilities to identify every rich deposit of minerals (especially gold!) and have had these areas designated as Wilderness areas to keep it's citizens from them. Bill Clinton did the most designations of these areas and the only way to reach them is to de-designate the wilderness areas. Many of these areas are managed by a secret agency named "APEX". I will probably get visited for releasing this information but this needs to be known!
You have done a beautiful job with your videos! I live down in sahuarita and spend as much time as i can exploring mountains. I love to hear some of the old stories and history of arizona. Especially southern arizona where i live. Thanks for sharing!
@@randomtangents5204 likewise, thankful you put all this work into great videos. I dedicated my channel to hiking similar areas here. You are an excellent story teller. I am going to share with my friends interested in same things here.
I found two mine portals directly west of tumacacori mission in the mountains. Have seen other workings without holes. Often run into treasure hunters over there.
There have been treasure hunters looking for the lost Spanish treasures for over 100 years out there and some make it their life's ambition to find the treasure. To me it is reason to get out and hike and see the beauty of the desert and whether I find something or not it doesn't really matter. Greed is a funny thing that some can't turn loose of and they waste a valuable part of their life and others looking for the treasures that may have never existed. Keep enjoying the desert as you have. Cheers, Greg Hawk
@@randomtangents5204 I couldn't agree more. I wonder of what use the metals would have been before the spanish arrived.l, or during early colonization. Seems we today have forgotten what is truly valuable on life. Hiking is an excellent way to put life back in perspective... I saw that mine entrance west of tumacacori peak. I hope to go back and peak in the gate. I have explored the next drainage west where you thought it poked out. I didnt see it but wasnt looking hard. I need to go back and see again where it is.
If you saw the old mine entrance with the steel gate across it then if you go up on the ridge above it and to your left there, I believe, is a vent hole for that tunnel and if you go right for aways there is a covered up shaft that you can see the tailings from over in the next drainage. They must have been chasing something so one should research old mining claims to possilby get an idea of when it was mined last. It is all an adventure! Cheers, Greg Hawk
