I'm planning to moove to Mallorca and i would like asking you, are you living in the city Palma de Mallorca? Because with over 400.000 residents it's hard to imagine that there is no life in a winter time! Maybe around the island yes, but in Palma not! What do you think about it? Thanks
Hey Fabio, it seems "dead" compared to summer season... You'll know what I mean once you start living here. But actually after five years of living in Mallorca, I love winter time so much now. It's more relaxed and you can have all beaches and mountains for yourself! Since I live in Palma, winter season is definitely better than villages. Which part of Mallorca are you thinking about living?
@Evayoubinchung thanks for your response Eva, I'm planning to live in Palma, exactly for that reason, much more alive in a winter time compare to others parts of the island
Hi, do you come to live here or just to buy a house? I think it's quite difficult to say in one word whether it's good to buy or not... Mallorca's population is growing so if you own an apartment and people find it difficult to get a place to say so I don't think it's a bad idea but it's all up to you if you want to buy an apartment to live or to rent out. Since I'm not an expert on housing market, I guess it's better to do more research on the matter. Good luck and I hope you can make the best decision for yourself. Happy New Year!
I pay 950 € , and around 120 € for the bills ! My flat is amazing but not a nice neighborhood in Pere Grau is not the best, I hate it! Rent has increased a lot and I would like to live in Bons Aires but the cheapest flat there is 1200 euros and unfurnished! 😢
Here's the link of my video about Mallorca weather. But every year the weather changes so check the weather forecast before your visit. Enjoy your travel! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hSuKC3Ub8uE.html
Great video and gives me a lot to think about. I am not too worried about the quiet Winters, I lived in on the South Coast UK for many years and that can also be considered very seasonal. What about working there though? Do you have any videos on this?
Good to hear that you like the video. I can't tell you so much about Job wise because I'm teaching and most people here work in the hospitality industry... What do you do for living?
It is not enough with Spanish … you have to speak GERMAN!!! They refused to speak English or Spanish …. Stubborn people. They get super mad if you don’t speak German back to them.
Hey there… I’m German and living here since 26 years but planning on going back. It’s a nice Island, especially for vacations, but living here is a totally different story. I can confirm that winters suck due to their emptiness and summers because it’s overcrowded. There is like no real balance. Y aunque hablo como si fuera alguien de aquí, hacer amistades es súper difícil. No sólo los extranjeros sino también los forasteros opinan lo mismo. And if that wasn’t enough, many many people come and go. As soon as you develop a friendship, be prepared to see them leaving soon. Btw, the sounds in this video are hugely annoying ^^ sorry.. just being honest. PD: without a car or scooter you’re screwed!
Oh, yeah the sound effect... I wanted to try something different 🤣🤣🤣 Well, after 26 years of living here(or since you were 26 years old?) you're going back?😢 Oh... yup it's true that it's not so easy to have long lasting friendship... Luckily I've got some good friends now but yeah the life here can be very challenging sometimes... 😢 I'm glad you left a message because I know that I wasn't the only one who felt this way...
@@Evayoubinchung Hey there, I didn't really expect a response on my comment, but here we are. I've been living here for 26 years now, so yeah, a pretty long time. Maybe too long ^^ I sincerely don't know what to do or how to entertain myself here. I`m tired of the tourists, beaches and overall mañana/mañana mentality. We could meet for a Coffee and have chat. i'd be more than interested in hearing how you arrange yourself with certain aspects of living on an island. With best regards 8)
If you are bored, you’re boring my mom said to me when I was pequeña…. you know the rest…go back home. Alcohol, restaurant, hotels, summer vibes you don’t have a life within so superficial you sound, Vete! I’m sure you don’t even speak español let alone mallorquín. Suffering without a car….Who wants be your friend you are externally dependent and superficial 😮
I agree with everything you say. Making friends is close to impossible. I used to be a very social person but now I’m basically a hermit. I decided to move to the country because living in town just means you are surrounded by a bunch of strangers.
Oh I feel you. Do you speak Spanish? Since I started to speak Spanish (I mean my Spanish is not perfect but I can almost express everything in Spanish.), I got to meet people and I've got a few good friends. If you don't speak Spanish, I highly recommend learning Spanish. And are you moving back to your country or moving to the village in Mallorca?
@@Evayoubinchung I do speak Spanish but I’m not really into “small-talk”. My Spanish is not good enough for me to actually have a deep conversation (in my opinion). I make acquaintances that never really grow into real friendships. At the moment I live just outside of the village in Marratxí. I will eventually move back to South Africa because I don’t think I wanna die here😅
Hahahahaha they are famous for their closeness... 😂😂😂 I'm sorry you had to suffer that... It's not so easy to be integrated to their culture... I know exactly what you mean. But Mallorca itself is very beautiful. There are always cons and pros of living here. Maybe it's better to be around more expats and you will feel much more connected. ❤
Very nice video. My fiancé and I are getting married in Mallorca this weekend and we will spend all next week in Palma. Do you have a recommendation on what we should see and where we should eat in Palma? Do you know a good local guide?
Thank you and congrats!!!!! I wish you guys have wonderful life together!!! Unfortunately, I don't know a local tour guide.🥺 Palma center is not so big to get around so you can stroll around and try what looks good. There are famous tapas restaurants like Ombu & restaurante el pilón if you like to try Tapas.💕 I wish I could help you more.🥺 Congratulations again and good luck with everything!
Hi Eva! Do you still live in Mallorca? Did you find it hard to build a community there? I grew up in Mallorca and I’m considering moving back (I’ve been in n NY for many years). Even though I’m totally fine with quiet winters and boredom (especially after NY), building a community there seems like a bit of a challenge.
Hi, Julio @julespitt It depends. It was quite difficult past few years but now I can say that I finally made very good friends through Instagram hahaha. Don't worry. If you have survived in NY then you will make it here for sure! When r u thinking about moving back? Is your family living here still? Send me DM through my Instagram if you have questions about living here. I'm not an expert but I will try😝
My great great grandfather used to live their in Magaluf Mallorca near Palma during the Spanish Civil when he was 15 one of his cousin was killed as a soldier at the age of 17 during the civil war, so to not get conscripted in the military and get out of the war due to all the Naval battles and World war 2 flaring all over Europe his family had to migrate somewhere else in a Spanish speaking colony near the Americas or the Caribbean so he moved to Cuba in the 1943, where he lived peacefully until Fidel Castro and his communist arrived in his Cuban hometown Santiago de Cuba, and everything was chaos now we’ll never find peace, especially when all my uncles and cousins accept me were drafted into mandatory Communist military service in Cuba but I migrated to the USA in Miami Florida when I was little, and now I’m moving to Texas Houston where 15,000 Cubans are living in a small community with a bunch of Mexicans.
I just stumbled with your channel and I'm loving it! I'm born and raised in Mallorca and I agree pretty much with everything: during winter time it can be really boring but that's a direct consequence of being fully tourim orientated for so many decades... and yes the public transportation is a nightmare here, I don't live in Palma so we all get our drivers license and car at 18 so we can work and have some social life 🥲As for the making friends part I think is always "hard" to make new friends as an adult in general because the free time is limited and we're all so busy with our own lifes and schedules that it's hard even to keep up with your already existent connections, so sometimes you just priorize the old friends to the potential new friends. Also, aside from work I feel is rare to find new friendships because as adults we don't have as much activities where to find new people. For example I studied Russian for a couple of years and met a lot of new cool people but after the pandemic I had to stop going to classes and now I don't keep in touch with any of them... Anyway I can imagine that starting all over in a new place is always hard, it takes a lot of courage to do that. I hope you're better now and I wish you the best 💜
It’s normal on every island 🏝️ that that on the tropics that there’s weather changes!! East Africa fortunately is on the equator and weather doesn’t vary much but ofcourse there’s high tourist seasons everywhere lovely and this places need time to heal from over population and people pollution so it’s not such a negative thing!! You do whine a lot and you should learn to appreciate living in paradise on earth!! Perhaps you should try Hong Kong city or Tokyo and see how you’ll enjoy the overcrowded all year round craziness!!
Hello! I would like to live in Majorca. I have an opportunity to work there. Do You know the name of the group Facebook for people who don t knows nobody? Thanks 😊
Oh sorry if the noise bothered you. I just wanted to do it differently a bit... I'm glad I could help. Youre moving to Mallorca soon? I wish you the best!💕
Palma city center is convenient, but apartments are often rather dark as the streets are narrow and not much light gets in. Yes, that´s a good point about windows. Important to have double-glazed windows, both for blocking out noise and because it does get quite cold in winter. Yes, Mallorca is getting more and more expensive and has become unaffordable for a lot of people who used to live or vacation there.
Just came back from ten days in Mallorca. October weather is generally very nice, but is mixed, as there were two stormy days of cold, wind, and lots of rain. The other days were sunny and warm. The hotel I stayed at was closing mid-October, but suddenly decided to close its kitchen one week early and without mentioning to the guests staying at the hotel! They did this to save money as there were less guests in the hotel at that stage, but the hotel was by no means empty and there were still many guests staying there so this was really wrong and unfair. This was unfair to both the kitchen staff and the guests of the hotel, as the serving staff were only paid to turn up for breakfast and not lunch or dinner for the last week and with no advance notice. This year, I found that many restaurants and cafes had reduced their menus or opened only for lunch and not for dinner. I heard at every hotel and cafe and restaurant that they are struggling to get staff, partly because many of the seasonal workers who used to come to Mallorca every year are not coming anymore, because they simply don´t earn enough to cover their basic living expenses, especially renting an apartment (which is way overpriced now in Mallorca). This situation is unsurprising, given how much Mallorca has exploited these workers over the years. In some years, they had to share flats with many others and just had a bed in a room with many others and were paid pitifully by their employers. This has meant that many restaurants including ones at five star hotels cannot get decent and experienced chefs and serving staff and ultimately this is reflected in the quality of the preparation of the food you receive. Lots of mosquitoes too, especially after the rains, so beware of that. I came back covered in mosquito bites. There were loads of mosquitoes in the hotel lobby.
I'm looking at moving to Mallorca from Ibiza. Surely Mallorca is going to be more lively in winter than Ibiza? 🙂 I'm looking at a house in Santa Eugenia because its not too far from the airport and is off the tourist route. I don't know anyone there, so your video has been helpful. Is a 4x4 preferable for some roads to secluded beaches?
Hello! Thank you so much! I'm glad my video is helpful for you. Actually I dont know what's it like to be in Ibiza in Winter. But for example, people have houses in both in Menorca and Mallorca, they stay in Menorca in summer but they come back to Mallorca for autumn/winter because Menorca is too quiet to live in Winter. I guess it's more or less similar in Ibiza I guess...? During the pandemic it was quiet but still there are a lot of things going on in Winter in Mallorca. And yes if you want to go to secluded beach like Cala Torta, 4×4 is better for sure if you have an option to buy it. My friend for instance, she's got 4×4 and she's super happy with it. Hopefully, my answer was helpful for your decision to move to Mallorca! I'm very excited for your new life here in Mallorca! Good luck and I hope to see you in my channel often. Have a lovely weekend 💕
@@Evayoubinchung HI Eva Thank you for your reply. Which top 5 towns / villages are best for all year living in your opinion? Not too swamped with tourists in the summer and not too quiet in the winter. Looking forward to more videos. Same to you have a wonderful weekend. 🏖
I get it.😊💕 It depends. I like quiet winter time as well but many people think it's all fantastic so I just wanted to share my experience living here😊 Thanks for your comment. Happy New week❤
Hey Oscar, I totally agree with you. Now I appreciate all the seasons as well. Every season has its charm. I hope you come back soon and enjoy the island! Enjoy your summer days💕
Hello Alaysia, I'm living with my fiance so I didnt need to use the sites. But I know that idealista is a website that people use to find a room/house to rent. Also some people uses airbnb and talk with the owner to stay longer. I urge you to find asap because it's not so easy to find a nice place (good flat + good price). Good luck!!🤞
Hello Mediterrano, thank you for visiting my channel. If I had a car, I'd love to live in Palma nova. It's near the beach and more relaxing. Also it's not so far away from Palma. Living in Palma(especially in the center like me) can be a bit exhausting sometimes because of the crowds in summer. 🥰 Or maybe I choose to live in Can Pastilla. It seems a very good place to live.
I grew up in Mallorca and I've been living in New York for 16 years, honestly I'm thinking of going back, I prefer the boring winter in Mallorca, which is actually peace, because the movement in New York City is very tiring and stressful, the truth is that it all depends From your point of view, thank God I was always surrounded by very good people and I had many friends, we will always find racist people everywhere, they are simply ignorant people!
Hey Ginger, I feel you. After the pandemic, I was used to living in more chilled vibes of Palma but now it gets really busy and crowded. Now I've been here more than 4 years and a half, I love more peaceful "boring" palma hehehe. New york must be so exciting and exhausting at the same time. But you are so lucky being surrounded by good people. Now I am with people I care and my life is getting better every day. 💕 Coming back to Mallorca is not a bad idea. It's way more relaxing than NY for sure. Whatever decision you make I hope you're well and happy! ❤
The boring part is true... Being a writer it suits me. I produce a way more than I did in Amsterdam. And yes, in Mallorca a car is needed. About the friends: yes! It’s challenging to find openminded people in the island. Most of my friends are Mallorquin and Spanish but I do miss an intellectual open discourse sometimes. Palma has it, but I live in the centre of the island (too). Conservative thinking is the main kind of thinking ;) But I still love this island. Let’s drink a coffee once, Eva! And Ginger; welcome back!?
You'll probably not find many of those people here in Mallorca. Its a very open-minded place and very chilly in general. You'll be safe walking around almost everywhere at whatever time of the day. I don't think many places offer that nowadays.
@@Evayoubinchung hi thanks for your video its really helpfull, i would love to move to malorca for 6 months a year, could you share more info by any chance please, there are ton of things i need to find out .thanks
