How many db of noise do you reach on the static and drive by? I saw mallory was 103db, which is atleast a bit more forgiving. I have an sv with roller barrels and am a bit worried about the noise
Yes I did fit a Transport and have had it for 2 years. Much quieter than the standard Titan, no knocking or clonking etc. I changed the oil last Winter and it came out the same colour as what went in - a very good sign!
Great to hear. Just spoken to Steve, I’m thinking of doing the same thing. My titan has been rebuilt 1000 miles ago by R&R with new sintered plates and it’s still horrendous. Doesn’t even work very well never mind all the noise.
Be HONEST Guys, does it really need "more" caterham than this ⁉️ DO you really have more Joy with a 420R ? It's Not about acceleration but the pure feel of driving. In my opinion a Superlight with 145-160 hp 1.6 is best machine to drive
A great blatt that was... I can easily see that a 40 min run to a distant coffee shop, could easily turn into a more distant blatt to a pub for lunch, then a further scenic blatt back home again for arvo coffee with the missus, and she wondering why you have such a big grin on your face. Intoxicating Caterham fun. Just one small ask... reposition (Raise) the forward view video camera, the drivers mirror obscures the view down the road... yes, we viewers like to see where we are going also. But great drive. Thanks for the blatt.
Done 10 months with the 420R SV now Grant. I've owned Cobras, TVR, Mustang... but this is the best sports car I've encountered. Love it. Brakes haven't impressed me so I'm having the bigger calipers and vented disc option, should have specced that when I ordered it ! In every other way its incredible. Steering, grip, ride, and that tireless and torquey Duratec motor :)
Glad to hear it! Ref the brakes, check your pads; the standard Mintex pads aren't great, and something like Ferodo DS2500 make a massive difference to the braking performance and brake feel.
Love your piloting of the 420R Grant, by the way are you using ZZR tyres here ? Very recently took delivery of my 420R SV and on a learning curve; definitely the best sports car I've ever owned and I wasn't expecting that !
Thank you Paul. BTW did you recently post on PistonHeads ref nose cone fitting? Anyway, yes I was on ZZRs. It was my first time on track in my 420R, and my first time using ZZRs, so was taking it relatively easy. They’re great tyres on track, but avoid for road use. Congrats on your 420R. Was it brand new? They’re great fun and it’s very enjoyable taking the time to learn driving them.
Yes but wanted more power. So I got the R400 spec DVA superlight no. 128 in January and a love the high reving nature of the K series dry sump. 8250 rev limit. It surpasses my driving skills for sure. I think the nicest sounding caterham is your 420 on throttle bodies!!! Best sound.
