Hello, my name is M. Laser (Matus Laser), and I do history videos; hence the channel name.
I try to release videos as frequently as possible, but I currently do not do RU-vid full time, which means there can sometimes be months in-between releases.
These videos are often about historical topics I find interesting. If you like watching well researched historical videos (I have a masters in history from the University of Oxford and I am currently doing a PhD in history at the University of Cambridge) on niche topics from all around the world, but mostly Europe, this is the channel for you.
If you would like to support me financially, which would be tremendously appreciated, you can do so through joining the channel membership on RU-vid or going to my Patreon- www.patreon.com/mlaser
I also have a second channel for just random stuff: ru-vid.com/show-UCOEt53JAqyL_OkE5Oq-bIkg & a twitter where I regularly post random things: twitter.com/MnLaser
Three of the four dreadnoughts were built by seasoned Austrian shipyards. Hungary demanded to get an order for it's own yard, but always fought with quality issues, as shown later by the rapid sinking of the SZENT ISTVAN.
Most time Your assessments are correct. But I notice many times, that our former easteuropean partners have a problem with the navy, especially hungary and croatia. At least croatians manned the most ships, though.
The navy was not partitioned, and different to the merchant navy flew only the Austrian flag. That the hungarian port of Pula was the main war harbor and most ships were stationed there, does not mean that hungary had the upper hand there.
Why do you keep forgetting that the Romans add vastly more human sacrifice for vastly longer period of time hundreds of years of Gladiators slaughtering each other not for religious purposes but for mere entertainment how come you don't make a video about that
Ancient Greek word for slave is doulos. And they had a lot of slaves back than. Nothing to do with Slavs since the migration of the slavic people to the Balcans happened some 600-700 years later in new era. I suppose that you know that slavery existed much earlier than arrival of slavs. Point is that in some period in early medieval ther4 was a big slave trade were the majority of slaves were Slavs from central and eastern Europe. That's when the word slave might be started being used.
The Paris Commune wasn't a communist state but definitely it wasn't a city council only, if you read the "Declaration of the Paris Commune to the french people", you can see they demanded the "total autonomy of the commune(of every commune) and the later federation of all communes in a central government, the communes would have a series of powers by its own will, and then transfer the rest of powers not claimed to the central government, and not the reverse, where central government has all power and concedes some powers to the cities. So basically the Paris Commune was the effort to establish a Communalist and Federal France.
I don’t think Charles position on the Natives was out of kindness. Yeah he didn’t want them as slaves, but forcing them to be his subjects, forcing them to convert and stealing their land isn’t really much better. He just wanted to ensure they were under his control.
I always wondered as they have the same name in swedish. It's also interesting to see the power of religion as it helped stop the persecution of the Slavs.
Well, I was never defensive about the fact that the word slave became from slav and that this part of history happened, but about the fact that many people who don't know the origin of the word slav think it always meant slave. In English it is a different story, but in most slavic languages, it is really slovo like word or slava like glory. Slovo makes the most sense, the people who speak similar languages, the people of word.
Thank you for the video. It's always considerably terrific to learn about their rituals. Thousands of people being, albeit many willingly, some unwillingly forced; tortured on spot as they are cut open still alive... even though not for long. *But* if we think about what was the *slavery in the Americas* following just that... I am pretty certain that a way greater number of Africans were tortured and or just died in slavery. The numbers for Brazil are astronomically high, I bet that for many other countries they were very high too. And the weird thing is that we feel like the Aztecs were doing such an other worldly thing, a total absurd and moral corruption as a human - while our own (if you're white, specially) ancestors were responsible for something comparably bad, not suffering any consequences... And that's just fine cause that's how things were and we're cool cause it's now in the past. It's not as revolting. Why?...
What I don't understand is why Europeans found American sacrifices so horrible while they were burning, hanging and torturing their own while destroying everyone who doesn't believe in their holy book
You don’t understand because you’re ignorance of history. The Aztecs sacrificed tens of thousands of people a year. NOTHING the Europeans did compares to the violence of the Aztecs. You would know this with a thirty second google search, lazy one.
This hurts my heart. I knew about it, but this was more than I knew about. I think that this is why stereotypes in the US happened. Polish jokes about how we were dumb, backwards etc continued throughout my whole life, regardless of how long we had been there. Current day, we are 'white' and therefore responsible for the African slave trade that we had nothing to do with. I did find it interesting that a few years ago, some group said that we could be included as poc because of the oppression. I'm sure that was revoked because the only slave trade was the African one by the Europeans. Therefore, Europeans, regardless of participation are guilty. Why don't they talk about the Arab slave trade that started earlier & went on far longer? Speaking specifically about how the European slave trade in Africans is supposedly the greatest sin to have happened & people who were enslaved are called responsible because they are 'white'
