Bombur outrunning all the dwarves and Bilbo reminds me of that one Powerade commercial where they had a fat man sprint down the running track and win the race!
From what I've gathered from the fandom, Tolkien would be dang proud/laughing his butt off over how Bombur was done so well in the movies, especially the river/barrel scene. Fun fact, that had me and others who saw it _howling_ in the theater 😂😂
I love how Bombur's not hindered by his weight, like he's pretending it doesn't exist to power match with the other dwarves and when he's fighting he uses it to absolutely destroy Goblins and Orcs like a heavy charging bull
I love that from the outside, Bombur seems like he would be a burden on the Dwarves' quest, but upon seeing him in action, you begin to understand that despite his appearance, he is rather competent and can completely understand why Thorin would have decided to take him along on this journey.
I wish he was given a bigger role and was a bit less of a joke character. I remember him being one of the most prominent dwarves in the book and original animated special. Since he and Bofur are brothers, they should have made them both friendly with bilbo
During the dining scene Stephen Hunter, who plays Bombur (aka the silent fat dwarf) had to catch a hard-boiled egg in his mouth - without the aid of CGI! Amazingly he did so on the very first take, but Peter Jackson being Peter Jackson wanted to go again to capture some alternative angles.
I knew someone exactly like this guy while riding aboard the city busses. He could tell you which year had the "flat-faced front" and which had the "curved"... what year they first experimented with the "bendie bus" and when they finally stopped using the electric street busses. I even chimed in by commenting on the addition of the fare "F.R.E.D" system and how it's a more efficient system of collecting fares. My other friend who was getting increasingly aggrieved at our topic of conversation, suddenly got up and said in anger, "OK, so when I want to know about BUS TRIVIA...I'll call you two!!". He then stormed away and sat somewhere else.
Fun fact bombur and the dwarfs reactions to him catching the egg was natural. The director asked if he can try to catch the food in his mouth and he did it in one take.
Still would love to see a heavy metal version of all the dwarves singing their songs, with Bombur on the guitar! 😂🤘 loved the compilation-a dwarf of few words, but many actions!
