Nice work. What type of white pencil is that you marked with. I would like to change from a pencil but fabric markers and white are pencils are hit or miss when it comes to writing on the wood. Thanks
NO music, I'm not sure why youtubers feel the need to put "music" on (which consists of about 3 cords, the same 3 over and over and over) Either narrate or shop tool sounds are good for me...
Nice work but I think that you forgot the most important "lucky that it didn't...". The door can be replaced, so can the neighbours garden, but you could just as easily have had your hand pulled into the spinning cutter and that can't be replaced. You were much smarter the second time around so well done.
yes you’re quite right, I know I made light heart of it in the video but I left it in as a reminder to people to be careful, complacency can be very dangerous! 👍
Ah yeah. An elegant yet simple solution to get speakers off the floor and really allow them to fill the room. My thing is elegance through simplicity in the pieces I attempt. There was another post on one of your other vids complaining about the tunes. Wankers to be ignored. You nailed it again . (Screwed it😸)
Perfect piece! Loved everything! Just for curiosity, is there a reason why you applied oil + wax on the outside and only wax in the inside? Thank you for sharing 😉
Very nice! I liked how the finish made the “birdseye” pop out. BTW, wht was the finish you used on the inserts? I could not read wht was on the white container. Thanks!
thanks, I’m pleased you liked it 😀 The finish was Renaissance Wax www.amazon.co.uk/Renaissance-Micro-Crystalline-Wax-200/dp/B0015F2GEM/ref=sr_1_2?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.daJ2F2WEpnomuR_z_tK8eR7jW_P2gnGF2WmcIeJYtGSc6RvOaxlP648D45VDqblYGsqYigzMWPxlqRvuLOowhArJdgwhUD3MYHZrvyQidRqNR1Ef2o34lL1CqFglpNdtzIFGExyxYNTjh9-RboFzGW_-WWLbmbT3o4iO9a8QCiE1aWm7EuPAbQzKmaoOObVaWVqqkjpbC9cq7XyMtPbMgA4mLhe-1KDbWcFDte5dQeLcdmdvX3jIM0Izo4r_a-01sOS7MvRXCCRSdSWc8v6Hd8ZFW0h04WMbpddtggWoR-4.k3tWQK1KUonkKryYNqQAUgRoHK-_UHq-I6laACqaI9k&dib_tag=se&keywords=renaissance+wax&qid=1717405604&sr=8-2
Very elegant with lovely timber grain on top. I watched how you cut your dados; it’s my experience that, with the router base in that position, there is a possibility (in my case an inevitability) that it will rock slightly against the straight edge and give you a slightly wonky edge. I now put the flat Sid of the base against the straight edge and hem it on with another straight edge so that it can’t wander. Or make or buy a figment for the router to clip onto the saw track and thereby eliminate any chance of movement. That timber is just too nice for me to even think about making an error!
thanks, i’m pleased you liked it 😀 There was definitely a lot of concentration cutting those, I really didn’t want to mess them up, just made sure I kept pressure against the straight edge 👍 I have looked at the attachments that use the saw track, I might invest in one in the future
That cabinet looks beautiful, enhanced by the brass inlay and drawer pulls. The smoothness of the drawer movement! Thank you for another interesting video, it’s always fascinating to watch you at work. There’s nothing quite so absorbing as observing an expert doing his “thing”.
Thanks so much 😀 I use two shooting boards, the mitre one is hand made (no video I’m afraid) which is a variation on Paul Sellers design - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--Ypbvcxb-8M.htmlsi=ZyGXn-gWuX3FTBQz The other is made by Veritas - www.veritastools.ca/en-ca/shop/tools/jigs-guides-and-fixtures/110737-veritas-shooting-board I hope that helps 👍
Hi, it’s a wood hinge kit by Rob Cosman, I’m not sure where you are based but here are links for UK & US, hope that helps 👍 www.classichandtools.com/rob-cosman-wood-hinge-drill-kit-imperial/p1155 robcosman.com/collections/woodhinge
Lovely box. I like the maple and teak contrasts. You asked if you use too many clamps. For a small project like that, I would say you had clamp overkill. For the mitre joints and teak trim, the tape alone would be sufficient. There's also the risk of too much or uneven clamping force causing racking, or damaging the timber. While PVA needs clamping force, it doesn't need too much.
Brilliant detailed OCD artwork as usual Gary, well done! I’m fanatical about the smallest details of the pieces I make. I’ve been known to remake a project because “that one thing” wasn’t right. I’ve been scribbling some watch case ideas myself. What are the dimensions for each watch space you used in your piece if you don’t mind my asking? Thanks
Thanks for that, mine were similar based on the pillows I too found on Amazon. I look forward to your next project. I’m mid way through making a box based on the one you made from cycamore and zebrano. Maple & wenge for mine. Pardon if you’re annoyed I’m making a similar one.
