Years ago I had the opportunity to ride in the vehicle with the ring mount. In the US Army we called that a "Duce and a half" and we called the Browning M2 "Maw Duce". So it is kinda Duce Squared. 😊 I served during peace time and am not a Veteran at all. I was a reserve soldier and average at best. But that 4 hour trip going over mountain passes in a cab with no heating and a canvas roof is unforgettable.

@mattheide2775 I can believe the unforgettable bit i'v had a ride of less then 5 minutes in a CCKW as my friend was getting it out of the barn but i'v had a ride in a M35 Reo that was magnificent back in late 2017 my other friend Alan Jeffrey's aka big Al was taking it home from Crewe war time weekend so I hoped in and the sound is amazing.

@@andysvehiclehistorychannel I was a radio operator and we had 1 ton GMC pickups from the 1980's in my unit. My unit was about as non combat as you could get. We had more officers than enlisted and our job was to plan base clusters during a war in Europe with the Soviets. Real cold war kinda stuff.

@@andysvehiclehistorychannel I know a bit about the Main Supply Routes and how important they were to secure. As far as the Vietnam geography, it severely limited Vehicles to known routes. This allowed mining of the route by the Vietnamese by night and ambushes when mine clearing slowed the convoy all hell broke loose. 👍

@mattheide2775 Just been reading about 1 Tactical Zone April 12th 1968 585th Transportation Company oddly in that convoy the M60 tanks and M113 APC's were in between each truck...

@mattheide2775 What normally happened was they would follow 5 to 10 minutes behind but that was in zone 3 ( Highlands ) Something I'm trying to get my head around the security force that traveled in the M113's as in do you have any idea when it was formed and was it a section or platoon that was pulled of another job or was it a newly formed force ?

@@andysvehiclehistorychannel Mechanize Infantry is MOS (Military occupational specialty) . A soldier will know his/her job when they sign up. However, every soldier is trained in basic combat weapons and squad level tactics. In times of need they will do as ordered, so I imagine soldiers being pulled from other units probably happened. As far as the M113 tactics, when under attack they would make a fishbone formation. The lead APC points forward and each trailing vehicle turns 45 degrees and moves forward a little. They alternate left and right and spread out. The goal is to create mutually supporting fields of fire. The 50 cals keep the enemy pinned down while the Infantry assault. The Vietnamese were experts in hit and run tactics. They only fought a battle if they knew they would win. The Mechanized Search and destroy tactic the US implemented led to some really specialized vehicles. Also, the soldiers that rode in APCs sometimes referred to themselves as Polaroid Soldiers because you don't see anything until the ramp opens up.👍

The Me 410 was defined under the "Zerstoerer" or Destroyer Concept of which the Me 110 was the first. It is often described as a failure but it in fact wasn't so much a failure as Luftwaffe procurement used its existence to block and ruin the development of high speed bombers and fighters equivalence to that of the Mosquito. For instance the Fw 187 could have given the Luftwaffe an long range air superiority fighter and bomber equal to the DeHaviland Mosquito and P-38 that was also able carry out photo reconnaissance and high speed nigh fighting but the Luftwaffe procurement kept demanding a rearward facing armament and gunner which ruined its speed and agility. -The Zerstoerer concept meant the aircraft was supposed to do the following: -1 Fly low and ahead of the bombers to use its powerful machine gun and 20mm canon armament to strafe up enemy fighters at airfields before or as they took off. It was also designed to destroy anti aircraft guns. The Me 110 was also to carry bombs to do this. -2 Fly ahead of bombers at the same altitude to engage fighters as they rose up -3 Bad weather fighter and night fighter. As the pilot concentrated on instrument flying and combat the rear gunner radio operator navigated the aircraft by triangulating radio beacons and took advise from ground control. -The Me 210 m(which became the Me 410) was an improved version that added a bomb bay, optional dive brakes and with the StuVi 5B with the BZA (Bomb Ziel Automat) dive bombing computing bomb sight was also to replace the Ju 87 StuKa. -Unfortunately its said that Will Messerschmitt in the design process to reduce the length of the tail to save weight. The reduced tail moment arm mad it impossible to solve stability issues. Moreover tooling for the wrong tail had been built. As a result the aircraft was delayed by nearly 1.5 years. This forced the Luftwaffe to not only continue production of the Me 110 but to massively expand it. By the time the Me 210 had been solved it was too late as Me 110 production lines had been built instead. The Me 210 had a deter fuselage and much large DB603 engines. This model was only available in 1944 and although successful in attacking Britain it could not be produced in quantity and was outmoded. The crews ended up transferred to Me 262 bombers. With DB603A engines the speed was about 386mph but with the DB60LA probably could have done 440mph.

@williamzk9083 Wow that's a lot of facts Will I had no idea about the Me 410 in the bomber escort roll nor did I know it was also up there to knock out air aircraft guns I can't say I know that much about the Luftwaffe after Stalingrad.

@@andysvehiclehistorychannel Rudger Kosin was a German aeronautical engineer who designed the Arado Ar 234 Jet as well as the Arado Ar 240 and Arado Ar 440 which were conpetitors of the Me 410. Kosin wrote a book called “The German Fighter 1914-1975” in which he details a lot about the Me 410 which competed with his Ar 440. One of the “Zerstoerer” roles was destroying bombers. It worked fairly well until escorts such as the P-38 came along

You keep calling it a Crusader tank but it is actually a CRUISER tank. Also, I don't think it used any parts from the US M3 Lee/Grant, I believe it was principally Australian-sourced. BTW The first flag displayed is that of New Zealand; it has fewer stars and those it does have are red, not white.
