Start a vacation or weekend by packing a bag and heading to a destination with so many great places to explore and adventures to enjoy. No matter where you come from, your first impression of Mendocino County is one of outstanding natural beauty: a drive into the county from the north reveals redwood forests and rivers; from the east, travel through rolling hills to the promise of the ocean; and from the south, spy verdant vineyards and the blue and gold of distant mountains. This is what we offer... a promise of awe at the foot of a redwood tree, a gasp at the sight of a breaching whale, a sigh of pleasure from a sip of wine, hand-crafted from century-old vines...and our welcome.
The county’s large geographical area is broadly divided into distinct areas, each with their own unique characteristics and commonalities found in fine wining and dining, outdoor recreation, and experiences.
As a Pinot lovin whiskey sippin train spottin hen of the woods fryin and former Mendo campin [drippy n cool!] now living 20 minutes from the White House swamp, I was stoked to see this! Great idea. Would love to see more partakers opinions [interviews] from train rides past! Great segment with Julie Golden! Mendo's rusticity is very appealing! The grubbier the details, the better. How to reserve tickets info in the beginning middle and end would be cool. A few minutes in old town Mendo would be heartwarming! I so miss the Left Coast! Gracias!!
WOW - What a great area. Not only the ocean and all that it offers but also the Jackson State Demonstration Forest. That sounds like a great Mtn Biking area w/200(!) miles of trails? Very cool. And that guy Roo - He's like a Guru for the trails.
Great job Neil and all! I'm originally from Sonoma County. I came up here over 30yrs ago to heal, did just that and joined the then large amount of tri athletes that came up here to train on my mountain bike. The trails up here are off the hook! The back roads over to the coast can't be beat for hill training and the trails around the lake are extremely technical. I also spent a lot of time along the Eel River that leads up into the Snow Mt. Wilderness, to my knowledge one if not the longest rivers in CA, and where I taught my daughter to river swim. Mendocino County is not growing so much as changing. Everything has always been here and in place once the people became ready to share. I think at this point, they are realizing there is no other way and hopefully are putting out the welcome mat for we have a lot to share!
I’m so sad you didn’t include my Highway One mural in Fort Bragg in your coverage! It celebrates all that Fort Bragg had to offer ! Abalone, Glass Beach, whales, fishing, logging, mushrooms, and more.
Lovely to see the places - Ukiah and Redwood Valley - where I was born and grew up in the 50’s and 60’s❣️ Haven’t been back for many years so very much appreciate seeing the how the community has grown with the contribution to art.
I would like to suggest adding the Sportsman RV in Noyo Harbor. They are wonderful people with RV parking, and little house rental, Dusty also builds wooden boats in his shop on site.
Also, nice area for whale watching. I was in the area visiting family and made a video with some drone clips showing whales migrating- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F4GhQBHpv3w.html
