Great memories, I've lived in Elsinore since 1957 and when the Grand Prix was in it's creation it was thought only locals around the surrounding area would participate but the word spread fast and our little town was overwhelmed. The population at the time was 2,400 and the only 2 small town grocery stores were cleared out in one day. Liquor stores were bought out and Budweiser was bringing in semi trucks with taps that plug into the side of the trailers. The 100,000 people had a great time though. Good thing we had 24 bars around the lake at that time. We truly were The Valley of The Drunks.

Interesting. As a rider from way back, I saw many references to the "Hurt Report" in my youth. Really a landmark in m/c safety. To my knowledge, no study this thorough has been undertaken in the U.S. since.

So wrong, in so many ways. Lots of old-timey and outdated safety strategems, unskilled riding, and unintentional examples of how *not* to do things. I'm no fan of "ATGATT", but geez - "none of the gear, ever"? Do love all those little ol' Hondas, though.

Factory height. Since this vid, I have changed the grips,added bar end weights cheese wedge change , wind screen change, highway bar close outs and 20 mins ago, I added a Denali low tone horn. This bike has been trouble free for 5 yrs!

That's me on the left at 1:40. Got a 2nd in the 500 Novice Class on my 360 Husky. The flag hit is fake, but the long 50 MPH wheelie (which I did every lap) is real. My two daughters loved seeing "Young Dad" at 19, 10 years before they were born.

@MCTeck

I have owned My Cross Country for 4 trouble free years, now about 15k miles. It handles and brakes great for such a large bike. The most comfortable motorcycle I have ever owned. Maintenance is easy.4.5 qt oil change , 1 drain plug, belt adjust [only done when a rear tire change is needed] , valves are self adjusting.

Mot at its best. I raced here also as a kid. We had so many tracks back then and the track and pits wee full. Everyone raced. We didn't;t have professional practice riders like today. Thank you for posting. Miss those simple fun times when riding was open to everyone and you could ride everywhere. The freedom, the beauty. Those days are LONG gone. Glad I raced the 70's, 80's, 90's and 2000'S:-) But the 70's and 80's where the most fun and free:-)
