12:00 Amazon/MS/Google knows exactly what they store in their servers, to the last digit. They can pinpoint and link it to the exact customer. Does not matter where, How it is stored. They have the computational power to look into the data. They prolly have AI agents doing this in minutes. It is in their best interest. It just boils down to power and trust. I can go on.

You are right. Knowledgeable people still believe in working for a company, I'm an IT student and can tell you that the majority of students don't even think of a startup and will alienate you if you bring it up, that's how serious it is.
@Larreth

It's interesting how perceptions can vary so much in the tech field. Startups can definitely seem daunting, but they also offer unique opportunities for growth and innovation!

Having been to the states, the difference in every industry between one's i have worked with in Mzanzi is like the difference between Sandton and a rural village. We are so far behind we should probably skip some steps if we want to catch up. Everyone on the west coast is coding their own AI in some form.
@Larreth
@Larreth 16 дней назад
You're absolutely right! The disparity between industries can be quite stark, and it's crucial for us to innovate and adapt quickly to keep up with the advancements happening globally.

@@Larreth True, while thinking that "higher powers" telling them what to code wouldn't be a solution but rather us actually working on something novel and presenting those ideas to the world.

I don’t get why bitcoin mining is legal or let me say standardised. Based on Sizwe’s explanation , it sounds like brute force to gain access to the security key thus the coin. Shouldn’t that make it a cyber crime ?
@Larreth
@Larreth 16 дней назад
That's an interesting perspective! Bitcoin mining certainly raises a lot of questions about legality and ethics. It's a complex topic that many are still trying to understand.

In coding specifically in South Africa, if any of the fields, that was the one I excelled in without a degree, maybe not in corporate dynamics but I taught myself to code, and if you speak to the community and do your research you can learn all the best practices found in the area. It's all about commitment and setting goal after goal.

ALX is not a bootcamp nor does it have a bootcampe. ALX was formely the Holberton School of Computer Science, founded in Silicon Valley and then acquired by Fred Swaniker and then rebranded as ALX. So at this point you're gonna look up The current Holberton School of Computer Science and see that it still exists... well it does but it is now licensed under ALX. You're misinforming the people. Do your research and ALX offers no IT courses or fast tracking to IT so you already misinformed the people with your opening statement. ALX is a computer science institution, far better than what you get at varsity and this is coming from someone who enrolled in Computer Science at UCT.
@Larreth
@Larreth Месяц назад
Thank you for your comment. Our intention is not to mislead anyone but present information the way it is. Our guest studied at ALX and simply shared her experience there. ALX is regarded as a BootCamp by the South African tech community and I know it has helped thousands of people get started in the tech field. It's an incredible institution and I have huge respect for Fred and his work

@@Larreth the student was at ALX a few weeks as she said herself. She speaks about backend stuff at ALX which is a specialization that comes into play 3 months to completion. Where did she learn backend in her first week? 😂 Her few weeks at ALX would have been bash scripting. She further complains about documentation, unfortunately ALX is a computer science academy and if you do computer science you have to read documentation... on your own. It's a necessity bc Com Sci is built on research papers. So little to do with software dev. In varsity there are text books, which is documentation in itself. No RU-vid videos, just a lecturer quickly going through slides and you have to go home and read. No difference from ALX in that regard. So how can you trust what this person says about ALX if they never even tried to to do basic bash(ls, pwd, mkdir, etc) I mean she didnt even do bash conditionals. Let me be clear also, I'm not against this episode. It's very informative and at least someone is taking their precious time to educate people. I just feel like for this episode, you could've been better prepared with your guests bc the source is not credible. WeThink code makes it clear about their bootcamps. ALX doesn't offer them nor any IT courses. However, their full stack course covers a bit of IT and DevOps but mainly core computer science concepts from low-level to high-level porgramming, networking, devops. That's a 13 month course with hours equivalent to university but remember in varsity you'll be taking Maths, Chemistry and Physics, prolonging the time it takes to get your degree when you could've dedicated those hours to just SE. No need for maths unless you go into Neural Networks, which ALX doesnt offer yet.

@@ostianrepeaters1202 I completely agree with you, ALX is great and really in depth, however I understand the guests viewpoint. Sometimes spoon feeding can help us really understand what we're trying to achieve. I personally feel like they could've done better in tems of walking students through it. I would like to belive she just meant she would've appreciated more guidance. Which I completely agree, it would make the program so much more valuable. I am in the 13 Month S.E Program and I really had to fight Tooth and Nail to get to where I am. But then again, I am of the idea that the program offers just an introduction into S.E and students would far better benefit by taking the content and implement into your own personal projects to really understand the concepts.

I am currently enrolled in the ALX Data Science Program while pursuing a BCom degree in Marketing Management at UNISA and running my side business. Despite the workload, I am able to manage everything. The Data Science course is incredibly detailed and insightful. I chose this program because it’s taught by Explore AI Academy in partnership with ALX. I’ve been following ALX for a while but wasn’t planning to join until this partnership with Explore AI Academy came up. Although the content can be overwhelming at times, it's truly worth it and the explore guys they really teach ,i dont remember having to go outside the learning portal to get clarity.with that being said dont think its the same with all of their programs but if you want to get into data science you wont go wrong since its not taught by ALX...thanks for the insights guys and i hope this comment might help someone.
