Any advice to a mid 50's guy with a family thinking of moving to Johor. I have a lot of buisnes consulting clients in Singapore that are recommending I move closer to them and grow. I understand for residency now in malaysia that I just need a $50k deposit in a local bank. I am gioing to keep my Irish corp and get paid into it by my Singapore clients.

Malaysia may be fairly cheap but it's a Muslim country. If you are happy living under Muslim law then OK. Otherwise stay away.

KL is reasonably cheap but Malaysia is a predominatly Muslim country. If you're happy with that OK. otherwise stay away.

I love KL, I'm an Aussie currently living and working in Bali - but longer term I am really leaning towards Malaysia specifically KL to live one day. Has such a great mix of culture, incredible food, shopping like you said, good infrastructure (well a lot better than Bali anyway) and one of the main travel hubs in Asia, it's so easy to get to anywhere in the region on a cheap flight. Can't see myself ever going back to AU other than to visit at xmas time.

5000 Malaysia Ringgit for family of four persons should be enough if you live outside city centre. You can still be well connected by living 15km to 20km away from KLCC as you have MRT,LRT, KTM Komuter to go in to the city in 30-40 minutes. Choose to live south of the KL as it is nearer to Airport, Putrajaya(Govt HQ) & Cyberjaya. 😊
