Omg ❤… did she growl that last note! YES MA’AM. I absolutely love the rasp in her voice… Years later after this recording the rasp gets even more fierce.
The way she said “solo” was a choice, but I didn’t hate it. Still, overall, I literally got goosebumps, it was that good! Dare I say better than Idina? 😳🤔😬
Omg how did you find this? Thank you! She sounds very close to the recording here. Didn't think that was even possible as the recorded version is inhumanely difficult!
The west end has an AMAZING sounding orchestra. I’ve heard the broadway orchestra extremely up close and does not compare to the timpani at 0:10. I could listen to that for hours. The West End sounds more symphonic in their instruments, while the east coast used to sound more pop/ rock But the level of electric guitar and drums have dulled since it’s early years.
oooh. i like how she looks down at the people at the end, and cutting the second "down" short to hear the ensemble---it really highlights that it's them against her, now.
I never saw this recording before! Thanks for have posted! I love Idina as Elphaba in London, don't get me wrong she's great on Broadway but in London she was just the best ever!
i watch so many defying gravity videos and just see one time an Idina one it's just i don't find reasons to don't say that she's an unique and magnificent Elphaba
on November 23, 2010 Rachel had a meltdown backstage before the show. She stated she was "sick and tired" of the greenification process and refused to be painted green. Well the show must go on so on this date and only this date she went on as Elphaba without being painted green. After the show she realized how silly she was being and the incident never happened again.
connor radcliff no she does switch accents. This is her first run in London where she did her British accent, then she transferred to broadway and she performed in an American accent. When she came back to London in 2016 for the 10th anniversary cast she performed with a more Americanised British accent - as she felt more comfortable with it, as it’s closer to her real northern Irish accent
I love how she raises the broom in the air after " Its Me", she's finally flying for the first time and she's proving everyone wrong and showing people she is powerful :)
Helen Dallimore is such an annoying Glinda, I feel bad Idina had to be with her. It's not even that she screams the Elphie line that is annoying but it's that she does it literally at the same time Idina is singing "It's Me". Every other Glinda is able to do it without covering up Elphaba.
Acting and singing from Rachel sets her apart from all others! Very few performers are exceptional at both and this is why she was so spectacular as Elphaba.
@MikeHaber, Kristin was the ONLY Glinda Idina was evenly matched with..all the other Glindas she performed with, she BLEW out of the water. Helen was the WORST I thought, JLT was second, Kristin, her equal ;-)
