Acting and singing from Rachel sets her apart from all others! Very few performers are exceptional at both and this is why she was so spectacular as Elphaba.
The west end has an AMAZING sounding orchestra. I’ve heard the broadway orchestra extremely up close and does not compare to the timpani at 0:10. I could listen to that for hours. The West End sounds more symphonic in their instruments, while the east coast used to sound more pop/ rock But the level of electric guitar and drums have dulled since it’s early years.
Watched this 3 days before this was filmed first time i had ever watched it and it was my first time in london too. I went with my drama class from school and when she is up in the air singing this song my jaw litterally hit the floor and i had goosebumps it was absolutely incrediable and we were all in awe, when we got back home all we wanted to do it put this musical into are own production haha. I
Omg ❤… did she growl that last note! YES MA’AM. I absolutely love the rasp in her voice… Years later after this recording the rasp gets even more fierce.
The way she said “solo” was a choice, but I didn’t hate it. Still, overall, I literally got goosebumps, it was that good! Dare I say better than Idina? 😳🤔😬
'Idina is the best and only Elphaba'??? Did you just say Idina is the ONLY Elphaba? Well that's the most close minded thing I've ever heard. Just because she's the first doesn't mean she's necessarily the best and it DEFINITELY doesn't mean she is the only one to have properly played the character.
@11Wickedthemusical so THAT's what a fucking riff is. Jesus. I keep thinking drums cuz I'm a drummer and I sing for fun. I had no clue what people meant when they said 'riff' in all the wicked vids.
u can compliment one elphaba without insulting another. Vocally yes rachel is OUTSTANDING but i still prefer idina as elphaba just because she dramatises the role amazingly and just is the character. i dont think its fair to say that idina is amateur shes amazing just in different ways :)
connor radcliff no she does switch accents. This is her first run in London where she did her British accent, then she transferred to broadway and she performed in an American accent. When she came back to London in 2016 for the 10th anniversary cast she performed with a more Americanised British accent - as she felt more comfortable with it, as it’s closer to her real northern Irish accent
on November 23, 2010 Rachel had a meltdown backstage before the show. She stated she was "sick and tired" of the greenification process and refused to be painted green. Well the show must go on so on this date and only this date she went on as Elphaba without being painted green. After the show she realized how silly she was being and the incident never happened again.
since when does dramatising the role have ANYTHING to do with the singing. Yes i completely agree with you rachel is a waaaay better singer than idina. That cant be desputed its based on technical skill and ability which rachel has plenty more of than idina. However I prefer Idinas portrayal as a whole yes her singing in it wasnt the best but it wasent bad and i prefer her playing the role. They are both amazing and i wouldnt say either is better than the other but based on personal taste....
