In my deepest depression, a beautifully bearded artist named Cubby handed me a Canon camera and a cappuccino, offering me conversation. I finally felt seen.
I’ve never looked back; studying black and white film processes, studio photography and documentary filmmaking; growing a wedding and portrait photography business, and eventually partnering with my brother-in-law to form a documentary and commercial film company. I’ve dedicated my life to enjoying every moment I’m given on this earth, and documenting the beautiful people I’m surrounded by. Life is complicated and harmonious; messy and poetic... we can process these stories through cinema.
It’s nuts how much negative “real estate” the digital back gives up…compared to the 6x6/film. I mean…that’s WHY I bought into the system in 1984….😂. If a true FF/sq. Sensor back was available, I’d probably make the plunge…for fun sake, not practicality. (Ive got 36-45mp DSLRs for that).
PLEASE! What kind of hooks are the ones installed on the side molle panels for centuries and stands??? Been trying to figure them out for weeks but i give up hahaha
@@SamMcGhee Thanks! Im definetly getting closer but can't find any as big as this one. Most of them would fit only one stand, yours seems to fit a couple more! Love how they look at 3:23. If you ever remind the brand or model i would very much appreciate! Killer setup you have there! Up to. the task for your killer filming quality. Nice inspiration i found!
Thanks for this review, I'm looking to maybe switch from my current PhaseOne Medium Format system to this Hasselbald system. Your video answered a lot of my questions. Cheers
@@SamMcGhee The PhaseOne is an amazing digital back and system, truly one of the best piece of camera gear I have ever owned. Now tho after 7 years and 200,000 captures later I'm looking to upgrade to a new digital back. But for me to get into a new PhaseOne digital back will cost about 35k. This is why I'm looking into the Hasselblad system and it looks like it will fit onto my ALPA 12tc technical camera. Thanks again for your insight, if your interested I'll be posting videos on my RU-vid channel about which ever digital back I end up going with. Cheers
Super helpful, thank you! I was torn between the 100C or the 50C, but I think I'll get the 100C. Was looking at pictures of used 50Cs and wondering about the buttons.
great review, and the fact you where asked to beta test it. One point that would help us users is: the v-system film magazines have a darkslide, so why not put one on the CFV100C ?, so you don't risk scratching the sensor (when taking it off, esp. if switching between the 907x and a 500/200 series system body) which is one thing users do, as we have a film system and this digital, as to add the 50 or 100C back, you Must buy the 907x as a system; this darkslide is a nicety, but also another good idea, is if they used a USB-C port for the Tethering socket, so we CAN add it to modern computers, or at least include a firewire 800 to usb socket adaptor IN THE BOX.
You can make the same video every week and I will watch it. I love the Hasselblad system and you capture it so well. Loving the CFV 50c, i have had it for....2 years? It's insane.
@SamMcGhee I feel weird doing videos of myself too, especially when people are watching me! I should remake my CFV video, since the quality isn't very nice. Dragging my feet since I highlighted everything I wanted to, but I might do a quick overview type thing. I use my setup primarily for product photography, but also just going out and about for personal enjoyment. The hasselblad is my forever camera, I like the security of knowing I can use it if film ever goes away one day.
@@SamMcGhee I still have my Hasselblad cameras I used in school and work in the 80's-90's before the digital age. I was debating on X2D 100C or the CFV 100C since I still have my bodies. I heard the X2D 100C had a focus indicator that worked with the old lenses but still not sure, wish the CFV 100C did. Thanks for your time I appreciate it.
@@-Chugwater- Maybe it does! I need to check it out and I'll get back to you. Try to get your hands on both of them and play with the lot. They're worth the physical touch to see if you enjoy it.
This is the exact setup I'm trying to get next year. I want to have the 500cm with the 50mp back and then my Leica Monochrom in my bag. Done. Dream setup.
"In summary, this proved nothing!" Love that. I shoot both digital and film and am a little more partial to film because of the physicality (and I prefer an old Porsche), but to each their own.
How cool this is! You robber a bank, left the vault door open and make a video how to get money to buy a Hasselblad system! :-) Absolute love my Hasselblad too, unbelievable quality and pleasure to use!
It is so funny when you say ''so simple'' lol. We can use every day different brands of film lenses with the Fujifilm GFX system just with a simple adapter because it has a mechanical shutter ;) No pain with old film body
The plane of focus of the Hasselblad C/CM is not at the same plane of focus as the digital backs of later years. To get critical focus the focusing screen had to be shimmed to the correct amount after some test shots, or taht is the ebst that I can remember from twenty or so years ago. I honestly think that if you wanted to shoot digital, then just use a digital camera. The sensor sizes are also much smaller than 6X6 so there is a crop factor to consider.
Hasselblad did too little and too late to keep alive the V system introducing the H system. Still I feel that they are patching the V Hasselblads. First of all you loose all the lenses angle of views. Wide angles are not anymore. Phase One manufactured a few digital backs covering more area, but still not full frame. At the same time old lenses can’t resolve a 100 MP chip. What is the point of having such a large files lacking the resolution of the new lenses? Now Hasselblad has discontinued the H system, topical oriental business. Víctor Hasselblad must be revolting in his grave!
That man had a ring of The Man in The Maze, it’s a symbol from my tribe in Arizona. Often see people wearing it without knowing what it is haha. Great work brother, been watching your channel more and more in preparation for the 907x
Hey. That’s good insight. I haven’t watched this in a while. Forgot about these frames. Thanks for leaving your mark here. Always an avid follower of your stories.
No. It's just not economically viable. Don't get me wrong, my fave camera is still my film camera, but clients want shots pronto and don't want the drum-scanning cost and time required to develop etc. It's an impatient world. Film is done for most commercial jobs, sad to say.
Just shot a music video (which ends up on RU-vid) on an Alexa Mini... never color graded this footage before. I appreciate the Toot however, I replaced the 3rd part plugin with FILM look luts. Looks better than just a base lut
If you ever wanna talk about Leica, shoot 🙂. I did play around a bit with the SL3 & X2D, very impressed tbh ==> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RIJXSm6XtkE.htmlsi=KBzC2_dz-YdSa5sy
I've always wished that the MamiyaLeaf digital backs were compatible with my RB67 body like this. Such a shame that a setup like this would be near or in the tens of thousands of dollars.
not a word about the comparison of the digital back vs the film back........youtube photographers are in aself centered lala land for clicks and attention.
