why didnt you put the plow on the loader arms?
@amhicks21
@amhicks21 Год назад
2 reasons. First, I drive it between about 10 accounts on the road and having that much extra weight on and in front of the front axle makes it buck and ride terrible. Second, no matter how it would be mounted to the loader it would still move the plow at least 2 feet forward. Having it leveraged out that far makes turning while pushing much harder and makes it easier for the blade push the front axle sideways while windrowing heavy snow. If I plowed different accounts I would've considered it but I plow around a ton of vehicles and wanted to make it as stable and easy to control as possible.

@amhicks21 Год назад
With mine having the 4" spindle and 2" spacers I still had to trim a little of the fender near the bottom to fit 35's and I still get a little rub if I have to turn up a steep approach. I'm happy with mine the way it is but a different tread style and wheel offset might make it worse. I guess it depends if you're willing to trim the fender or not. I would've thought twice about trimming mine if it was actually a nice van. Hope that helps.

@amhicks21 question...it looks like you flipped over from a kubota blade to this western wide-out? how much better is the wideout? whats the deepest snow this can push in a parking lot like the one in this video? (looks like 5/6/7 inches max in your videos...wondering what happens with 10"+). thanks!
@amhicks21
@amhicks21 2 года назад
I've never actually used Kubota's snow plow. The other plow that I've used is a 7'6" Curtis with wings. The Wideout is incredible in comparison to that. I've been plowing in an L6060 for 7 years and in that time Ive never had to plow over 6" at a time. Ive got some special accounts like an ambulance depot, news station, dialysis clinic etc. that need to be kept up on so I never wait for the snow to get that deep. With that said, the L6060 will push anything that a 3/4 ton truck will push and maybe more. At the very worst if the snow is super dense I have to take it down from 6th gear in to 5th because I start to run out of power but thats very rare. Traction is never an issue but im also running 1000lb weight box and all 4 loaded tires to be sure. I tried to talk one of my coworkers into a tug of war with his 3/4 ton duramax plow truck but he wouldnt do it for some reason. with 10-12" of super dense snow the worst I could see happening is having to plow with the wings retracted and 5th gear which would put you at a max of around 9mph.
@tomhayden7251
@tomhayden7251 2 года назад
@@amhicks21 ah. I was thinking the Curtis was the kubota. Awesome feedback. I’ve got a 3500 drw with an 8”6 v blade and a f250 with a 8’6v and a back drag pro 8-12. Only do residential. I’ve looked at jd 4066 and the l6060 kubotas and the kubota dealer is more convenient. Trying to figure out how to equip. Getting excited!
@amhicks21
@amhicks21 2 года назад
@@tomhayden7251 The most important thing to consider is that the grand L kubotas are the only compact hst tractor with an additional 2 gears that you can shift on the fly on top of the usual 3 ranges. There will be times when pushing a mountain of wet snow that high range wont have the power and you'll need a lower gear. the ability to downshift without stopping is literally the single reason we stick with Kubota.

Hey I appreciate ur input I dont do any commercial plowing mine is a very dense group of residential houses and condo townhomes..the blower is incredibly fast for driveways that have the garage door to back straight up to and for driveways where the door is parallel with the drive most often my front blade was faster..i have the 1000lb blower on the rear and a front weight kit with 4 suitcase weights r4 industrial tires non loaded i get good traction but as the blower gets heavier from ice and snow sticking the steering gets lighter..I have already been wanting the accumulator kit for high speed commute..your also right I'm using my rear remotes for the blower i thought about even just a 7.5 straight blade or a western prodigy might be a good combo where I'd use it on my condo roads and certain driveways where the blower isnt easy to use ..i love ur setup and mine it sure would b sweet to have best of both..thx

Is your front blade being controlled by the tractors loader hydraulic or is it using it's own western setup..I'd love for u to do a thorough walk around video of ur rig and how it works thanks brotha
@amhicks21
@amhicks21 2 года назад
@@nickbradey3973 Its being controlled by the tractor's hydraulics. I originally used the plow's factory hydraulics when I was using a Curtis plow but the tractor's alternator had a hard time keeping up and at best it was pretty slow and weak. Im going to try to make a video of how it all works when I can. How do you like the L6060 enough power ans traction to push with no problem? And do you like the front plow more than a loader snow pusher
@amhicks21
@amhicks21 3 года назад
I absolutely love it. Most of my accounts were given to me because they're horrible to plow in a truck. For instance, I plow an ambulance dispatch a TV station, and a drug store to name a few so tons of vehicles and obstacles but in the tractor its never a problem. Traction isnt an issue any more than in a truck. The power is adequate to where im never less productive than a truck, but i could always use more. If they come out with higher hp tractors with hst i'll be all over it. All 4 tires are loaded and it has a 1000lb weight box so at close to 7000lb, its own weight seems to slow it down more than the snow does sometimes. I went with a frame mounted plow because even an underslung loader mounted plow wouldve moved the plow further forward than i wanted. Ive found that every inch that you can get the plow in closer matters for stability and control. Also, having both the weight of the loader and plow leveraged out in front causes a pretty bad ride on bumpy pavement. The top speed with turf tires is 15mph. I think with other tires its up to 17. That would probably be a deal breaker for many people but all of my accounts are within a mile and in a down town area.

How do you like doing snow with a tractor vs a plow truck ? And how do you handle salting if you do salt , do you come back later with a truck and salt ? I’m so tired of plow trucks not holding up we are looking at switching to 40-50hp compact kubato tractors , they are fast enough to drive lot to and should be able to take the abuse of plowing over a truck. Can you plow most of the time in high range ?
@amhicks21
@amhicks21 5 лет назад
I really prefer plowing in the tractor vs a truck. I'd say that the worst accounts for a truck (tight spaces, poor visibility, and high traffic) are the best accounts for this size tractor. In a large open lot, its still as fast as a well set up truck but it really uses all 60hp in those situations. I think you'd find yourself limited to plowing at 7-10mph much of the time if you opted for the 40-50hp range. The only time i have to switch from high/high (15mph) to high/low (9mph) is when the snow is super wet and heavy. We use dedicated salt trucks and dedicated sidewalk crews. every once in a while, the salt guys will show up on an account that i havent finished yet but over all it works out pretty well. Its also worth mentioning that there was quite a bit of time put in to setting the tractor up. The weight box, rear loaded tires, front fenders, custom plow mount, hydraulics and lighting were all things to consider. Buying Kubota's plow accessories would be expensive.
@jacobcrider172
@jacobcrider172 5 лет назад
Thanks for the reply , great information! I was thinking of just running our plows we have for our Skidsteers off of the loader instead of mounting it directly to the front of the tractor. And yea I really like that high/low feature that’s awesome because our skid steers only go 7 mph now , so I could plow forward at 8-9mph with the kubato if it’s heavy and wet and then switch to high/high to reverse down the lot. How many hours do you have on yours ? And do you see less break downs compared to your trucks , like selionds on plows not working , wiring harnesses messing up , lighting issues , all the normal crap that happens to a plow truck , have you seen those issues gone using your tractor ? Thanks for letting me pick your brain on this!
@amhicks21
@amhicks21 5 лет назад
before I ran this tractor I ran a bobcat s300 2 speed with snow tires, 10 ft push box and 5600 hours. Truth is, that setup was by far the fastest we had. that ran 12mph and was pretty unstoppable. The only reason i gave that rig up to someone else is because this tractor is my primary equipment over the summer for finish grading and ive personally done all the work to it. That bobcat has since been traded in for a bobcat s650 (shouldve got the s770) and runs a snow wolf quattro plow. I'd perhaps have a look at running a 2 speed skid steer. currently this tractor has 1670 hours and was bought new in the spring of 2016. 1500 of those hours are summer work. The biggest issue with running a plow off of the loader is that it extends the plow extremely far out. I dont have any personal experience running a loader mounted plow, but they seem awkward and i think it would cause steering and control issues. As far as reliability, this machine hasnt left me stranded during a snow but its had its share of problems. The front axle was rebuilt, the steering motor replaced, several hydraulic leaks, corroded wiring and a few other odd things mostly fixed under warranty and all happening over the summer. I appreciate the questions. The reason I posted these videos in the first place is so people considering plowing with a tractor could see how they function. My boss upgraded our old l3540 open station to this l6060 with blind faith that i could make it worth it. there just wasnt much video of a tractor this size with a frame mounted plow to make a good determination of how it was going to work.

Thanks! ive really enjoyed it so far. we got it in april 2016 and ive put around 600 hours on. It had a defective orbital motor for the steering that was covered by warranty and a bunch of loose bolts thanks to the guy that assembled it but other than that its been great. The only time that i take a skid steer over this machine is when working in really confined spaces. I think the biggest drawback for one of these tractors is since they have such a deceivingly large footprint they cant be trusted to an inexperienced operator like a skid steer usually can. The 60hp model feels necessary for snow but can be punishing on some cat 1 implements if they dont have a good slip clutch setup. Unfortunately its only snowed 3 times this winter so far so i dont have a ton of experience with it yet but my plow list is around twice the size of the pickup truck operator's lists and i get done around the same time as they do. Its not quite as fast moving snow as the bobcat s300 that i ran before this but is so much more comfortable and may be as fast with a different plow setup and more experience. I hope that helps. if you have any other questions let me know. take care!
