Boy the pads have changed. They not only had belts to hold them up. And they called them Sanitary Napkins. Now they are called Maxi Pads and have sticky backing on them to hold them into place. And now they aren’t called Sanitary Napkins they are called Maxi Pads. They sure have changed!

If you really listen you find that most of the staff were volunteers. I suspect a number of nurses and doctors were also volunteers as well. The accommodations were simple. Patient areas wards. There is no way the medical industrial complex would ever allow for a voluntary and donation oriented healthcare facility to ever be built again. The CEO of the not or profit would have to make a few million dollars in salary today.
Old sanitary towels like in this film were much better than modern ones that are too short, and are not very sticky and fall off. Why have they gone downhill?
I remember getting my first period at 10 and being absolutely terrified. Even back in 2014 neither school nor the few grown ups I felt I could talk to were much help. parts were harder and parts were easier than now. This film doesn’t show hard they worked, it seems to be a selling tool for nursing so of course they would downplay the difficulties. Their pay was also very low, even through the 1970s.
I find something strange about me and also my mother. We both started having our periods on our 14th birthdays. But our birthdays are both the same month but different days. Does anyone know if that is a hormonal thing or genetic thing? Or is it just a coincidence? I have been wondering this for 14 years so an answer to my question would be great😀
This film is quite modern considering it was made in 1953, except for the taboo about swimming. There's nothing wrong with swimming when you've got your period, it's just that those huge pads used to get waterlogged if you went swimming, and they were really visible under your bikini or one piece.
