I'm Matty, welcome to my channel! I currently live full time in my self converted Nissan Interstar, Big Bruce.
I have so much admiration for the natural world and want to increase my knowledge of the wilderness around us and share this learning journey with you. If you're interested in vanlife, wild food, bushcraft, nature and exploration then please subscribe and follow me on my adventure through the wilderness.
Trying to comment on your latest vlog but I'm hopeless with technology and my phone can't find your latest vlog and I can't comment on TV 😞 Anyway....... We've missed you and can't wait for the mushroom forraging tips. We'll be watching but no pressure. Your vlogs are great, don't put so much pressure on yourself xxx
I appreciate you going to the effort of commenting! Aw thank you ☺ I look forward to bringing out more content and glad you're looking forward to it too! I'm actually in the process of hunting through my archives for mushroom footage right now 🙏
In Mississippi, USA here. I LOVE the smell of pine, fir, and cedar! I never thought of using this sap or resin as an incense until I saw your video, thank you! I’m always purchasing and burning frankincense and myrrh in my house. Now, I’ll start trying to find some Sap or resin from our local pine trees, which we have millions of, around here!
Aw I encourage you to try it, it's such a fantastic scent, similar to frankincense in that it's a very warm and comforting fragrance. Much more economical and environmentally positive too. Plus you get to go and explore in the woods, it's a win-win 😁
Thanks for the observation. I'm strugling with comparison, and your poem is a wonderful reminder to be kind with myself, and respect my rhythm. Excited about the your new journey.
I'm glad my poem resonated with you 🙏 at the end of the day we shouldn't compare ourselves to others as no one can be us and we can't be anyones else so we should rejoice in who we are and what we're capable of ☺
I'm so glad it resonated with you! That makes it all the more worth while sharing my words as it certainly felt a bit vulnerable to do - not something I've ever done before. Embrace the journey 🙏
Good to see you see you safe and well! Look forward to seeing your vids as and when. Especially the foraging ones. I'm just getting into it myself so will be good to watch. Picked some elderflower a while back made some cordial. Yesterday I picked loads of nettle seeds I have them drying out now. Really enjoying learning and the process. All the best mate take care be well.
Thanks mate, feels good to be back and connecting with like minded souls like yourself! Brilliant, I hope you find my videos useful 😁 Aw that makes me happy, great job on the nettle seeds, an absolute powerhouse of nutrition 💪
It's difficult at time to keep pushing content at the same time wanting to create content with meaning. I know the struggle, but your fans understand the need to take a break.
Thank you so much for the supportive words! It can be hard feeling like we owe something to our viewers but no sense in forcing it as they'd probably not like it anyway 😅
Love the poetry Matty. Fabulous 👌 Wonderful little video mate. Look forward to watching your upcoming vlogs. Sounds very interesting, especially for me. Take Care mate. All the Very Best 🙏
Thank you mate, felt a bit strange sharing that kind of creativity but if it's well received then others may as well enjoy it ☺ look forward to sharing them mate, just in time for mushroom season too 🤞 🍄 stay safe mate!
Blooming brilliant to see you! I'm happy that you are thinking about you . Its always a pleasure to see you and it IS creative the way you put videos together, but you have to be at peace and happy first and foremost .
Outstanding! Can't wait 👍 i like the way your self critical but not obsessed ,that you put out quality and you dont fall back into that 9-5 must do mentality 👍 thank you for your time .
Thank you so much ☺ I think we could all do with slowing down a little, productivity shouldn't come at the sacrifice of happiness and mental wellbeing 🙏
What a wise man with wise words and a understanding life is not perfect. I will enjoy the series but if mid way you vanish for a wee while that's ok... It will be time you need away to live not tied to filming and upload schedules. I actually love fact you come and go it takes pressure off me from thinking oh I must watch as before I know it a week will have passed and I now have 2 to watch or if my life gone sideways 3. Good to see you tho until next time take care 🥰💜x
Thank you for such a wonderful comment 🙏 it is possible there will be breaks in the series but I plan on creating and uploading in good time so that the mushrooms I show in my videos are still available to find in the woods 😁 I had never thought of it that way! I know I can feel like I'm bogged down with videos I haven't yet watched on RU-vid. Thank you and see you again soon ☺ 🙏
Hi great job could i ask what colour this is. Is it nato green and how much paint did u use im painting my t5 so should be same amount any advice be great thnak you
It is Nato green, yes. I've bought this paint since and it seems a bit thinner now, I guess they're trying to turn a better profit so I'm not 100%. I know I used two tins for this van, so a total of 5L I think, but that was super thick compared to what it is now! Always best to have too much though, always need the odd top up 🎨
@user-mq5dr7qz4l thank you. I did my new van the same way. It's a bit of hard graft with all the sanding but it always looks so much better. I'll paint every van I get!
A DC-DC charger will charge you batteries to 100%. The float charge will ensure the slow trickle the batteries need to get up to full. This is superior to a split charge relay that will only charge at one voltage regardless of battery level.
I’ve been dreaming of vanlife but not really making ways to get into it. Now I find myself in a situation where I have to decide my next steps, and your very honest and informative video, clarified a good few things for me. I have a question though, how do you deal with humidity? I live in Ireland, and this was something that is putting me off for a while. So when I got to know you’re mostly based in Scotland, I felt hopeful.
I'm glad my video found you and you've got some answers from my ramble ☺ Humidity and damp is an but of a nightmare. The key is good insulation, air circulation and a dry heat source such as a diesel heater or log burner (gas burns went). Having a vent to draw the steam out as you cook is super important. A window you can open goes a long way too. Oh and a sheep's wool blanket on the bed in winter stops it feeling damp in the cold mornings. It's something you have to face living in a van but it is manageable!
I wish I could tell you but it's essentially out the bottom of my mums garden 😅 but I can certainly suggest some beautiful swimming locations in SW Scotland 😁 🏴
Great information, thanks for sharing. The burger you made from the flowers looked really tasty! Dandelion is such an underrated plant. I grew up thinking it was just for pet rabbits to eat as a treat! What knowledge seems to get lost
Thank you for watching ☺ It was super tasty, a surprisingly pleasant texture! Well now you know to eat it and get the health benefits ☺ makes me sad knowing some knowledge has already been lost forever 😔
I wish I had the space to keep my last van, loved it to bits. But I guess it's better being on the road giving someone else adventures! Aye I've got a few videos in the works so should be back soon enough. I'm well thank you and family are happy and healthy 🙏 I hope you're doing well mate 😁
You're very welcome! Aye, these kits typically come with 16mm2 cable rated for 110amps and then 100amp fuses to protect those cables. Some of the cheaper kits come with 10mm2 but I think that's ok so long as the length is only a meter or so. With the 5m kit it should be 16mm2 or larger. Hope that helps?
Thank you 🙏 Aye it's held up well, no chipping or issues with the bond. It does scratch with little faded matt scratches but if you stay out of bushes it's fine. I had some woman send me into the verge so he's got a few marks 😅
My doors resonates as hell so I have rebuild my Movano. Maybe a sub underneath the seat and take away low hz from the doors. But I have to detach the whole plastic panel on the doors… but good to fill it with insulation also
Hi, you seem to know electrical knowledge; myself however...nuff said. I have a T5 with a leisure battery supposed to be running the fridge and some lights...relatively new battery, basic lead acid leisure battery. I just found that the battery is not charging, (realised when the fridge compressor wouldnt kick in, and the 80A fuse to the battery has blown. Would you know the most likely cause from such meagre info? The wrong battery, wrong fuse, wrong size wiring? Suffice to say, not a homebuild. Thanks for any advice. (Leisure battery currently on external charge)
Hmm, hard to tell going off that information mate. I presume you mean the fuse between the battery and fridge is what has blown? Presuming you're fridge is 12v, then an 80amp use blowing means the fridge has tried to pull more than 960 watts. I don't have a fridge but this seems extremely high to me. A household fridge freezer uses around 150 watts. Do you know the wattage of the fridge? My assumption would be an issue with the fridge. If the wires were too small they would have likely burnt out before the fuse did. Worth checking all connections look secure, no burn marks or frayed wires, then trying again with another fuse. But stay with it and make sure you have fire prevention at hand as well as a means of disconnecting the power quickly. Feel free to send me photos on Instagram.
