Active Wilderness is a hunting and fishing series that follows the journey of the indigenous outdoorsman, and conservationist Lance Cook. Here at Active Wilderness we aim to bring the hunter and angler community together by telling the stories and showing traditional outdoorsman practices from around the globe. All the while creating a space for new hunters and anglers to learn and grow from.
Lance Tim your Ontario friend. Are you still doing 3D shoots? would LOVE to see another one! Who's left in your group of shooter's? Added a new Hoyt RX 8 to my line up, my first carbon bow. So far I'm liking it, same lbs as the Mathew's but speed much slower. Draw cycles are simular. The Hoyt stars out heavey right from the pull and eases off alittle. The Mathew's is the revese. We have a group of 5-7 regulars and a total of 8 shooter's with one being a paralymian and two recuve shooter's. I'm waiting and watching for a 3D shoot PLEASE! your Ontario friend Tim Bitts
I'm thinking I will be going to a 3D shoot in April. Most of the regulars I normally shoot with are no longer shooting. I'm thinking about trying to get a group together to film the April shoot.
Sorry to hear most of the old crew are not shooting! Paul, Derk' and Arnie not shooting because they have other things or CAN'T shoot?@@activewilderness
Do you know when white tale shed? My dog loves chewing on antlers but they are crazy expensive in the pet stores for small pieces so half a rack be amazing to find for him
It's not particularly quiet, but it's not super noisy. The packs not noisy enough that I'm constantly noticing it while hunting. It's made from a water resistant material so that definitely adds some noise when you brush against stuff. On a scale of 1-10, 1 being the quietest and 10 being the loudest, I'd place it around 4.5. Hope that helps.
Thanks for watching. Maybe some day we will do a full gear list. But in the mean time we have been dropping Off-Season Talk videos reviewing some of the gear we used in this hunt, you can find them on our channel

Hello folks. I live on Vancouver Island 💛 and I ask this question with no intent to argue or judge, I just want to learn from people with different perspectives from mine 💛 so please, if you can find it in you to have an open heart, could you please shed some light on why this is an enjoyable activity for you? I am an advocate for the welfare and rights of animas, both wild and domesticated, and I am just learning about the fact that this is a legal activity on the island here (I am originally from Toronto). I know about the wolf culls in BC, but was unaware about bear hunting. Thank you for reading my comment and hopefully believing me that I am, again, not here to start an argument in any way 💛
I actually think I understand your feelings about hunting. (I’m only speaking from my life experience) I’m First Nations, that may or may not play a part. Killing is not the “fun” part of hunting. I’m getting a little older now and I hunted for weeks with young family members. That was fun! We all hunt to provide. Every thing we hunt is food. (I didn’t need, so I didn’t kill this year) . Much of the animal I bring to an elder in the band. He teachers courses to the youth, how to make traditional things from the hides bone and such. Humans are not bad because they kill and consume. Just like a bear that kills to consume, it doesn’t make it a bad bear.(we are much more ethical) Have you seen how predators hunts and kill? Hunting is also managed quite well. Predators kill a lot of young elk and deer in the spring. To many predators not many elk or deer. Yes nature will take care of itself but that could take centuries sometimes. If we manage things properly we will have plenty of everything all the time. So that we can enjoy the elk deer and all the predators. When I was young we would raise our food. I would care for our animals from young to table. I totally understand if you didn’t live like this,it would sounds crazy to you. Hunting actually seems less crazy to me now. I am just a meat eater that’s willing to do the killing myself.
