I mean, it sounds insanely good. And for a non treated room is almost professional radio quality. I am a proud owner of the zoom f3 (what a beast) and thinking about the sm7b. By the way, may I ask about the arm? Which one are you using? And the orangeish.. holder at the botton of the mic/arm? It looks really different! New subscriber !
Thanks. I have a Rode Procaster which is nearly as hungry as the SM7B. Use am SE Dynamite on my interface (64db native gain) for an additional 28db. So a total of 92db of gain. The Rode wants 55-60db of gain… good to hear the Zoom F3 handles it easily.
Hey thanks for this video. I just had 2 SM7B's delivered and connected to the F3. I was pretty shocked to see that I needed to go all the way up to the max gain (x1024) to make it sound decent. I also have a Sennheiser 416 and it only needs to be at x32. Can someone help me understand how it could be that different?
Advice caution the Zoom H6 essential ASIO driver is not compatible with the windows 11 arm64 and the error reported is it required x64 processor. I have been informed that there is no solution for this situation.it cannot be used as a audio interface on windows 11 arm 64.
Is the Line IN input a stereo one ? I mean , in H8 i can record stereo (2 separate channels) with the Line input on the stereo mic ..... Is this possible with the H1 essential?
You're a funny! I'm waiting for one of these from eBay. Can't wait. I had to buy a windscreen and I'm waiting on that as well. Hoping it's going to be the right one.
Thank you for doing this. I have the H1n; which I love. But I do a lot of run and gun filming outside and it's all quick set up single take stuff. So the idea of something that's a bit more forgiving with gain really appeals. But I had exactly the question of whether the Essential would fit into my H1n case; and whether the popshield would fit. So thank you! Edit: Is that tripod mount metal in this one? The plastic one on the H1n is one of its minus points.
@@planetzlive Ah, that is an improvement. The H1n just has the thread moulded into the plastic of the case. So not exactly robust. I think I'll give it a month or so for any software updates (apparently there is a clock error on them at the moment) and then go for it. Although I do still love my H1n. Don;t really have to do anything with the audio in post. So just wondering if 32 Float will just work off the bat when you import or whether it will always need a bit of tweaking. Like the audio equivalent of shooting in Raw.
@@KravKernow you’d have to adjust it in post “if needed.” 32-bit makes that possible to avoid clipping or lack of volume without affecting the noise floor like traditional recorders.
@@planetzlive Ah, that sounds perfect then. I usually get the gain ok. Sometimes have to push up to +/- 3 dB but nothing major. So I was just wondering, with the huge bandwidth how it knew what 'zero' dB was if you get my drift? But I enjoy playing around with stuff (even if I'm pretty useless at it), so I'm sure I can get it to work. Thanks for all your input on this.
Not true with this one. If you are realistic with what you are doing, this unit performs very well. I have the F3 and I’d say it does well compared to that.
I am looking for a budget recorder that I can plug in to a Dj mixer to record a wedding reception. Do you think this will do? Thinking that 32 bit could help for distortion that sometimes happens. Thanks.
I can’t fully answer that as I’ve not used the line input. I would doubt that it is “fully clean.” $100 only gets you so far. I will try an experiment with that hopefully this week. Thanks for the question!
How about handling noise compared to h1n? Is it louder, more prominent on the new one? I'm also interested about noise in "max gain" setting in comparison to old one, e.g. when you record some whispering or some quiet sources - does the noise is louder on h1e (when volume is normalized on both)?
The handling noise would be about the same. Just hold it firm. Same for any mic honestly. Max/min gain with 32-bit doesn't add or subtract noise floor due to the wider dynamic range. It will however add/subtract room noise or ambient noise based off your adjustment values in post production. I appreciate the question!
@@planetzlive thx for your answer. I know that 32bit does not introduce any noise itself. But i read that to utilize this whole available DR they had to use 2 preamp at once - low gain and high gain. In low gain the self noise isn't an issue. But the high gain performance interests me most.
@@pandanioI don’t see any current issue. I am using this for what it is for $100. My expectations are reasonable for what I use it for. Generic use for voice and sound effects.
I’ve got a mic pre I use on the mic that has a gate/downward expander for my typical use other than this experiment. Very little room noise with that. I do voice overs and have a nice walk in closet for that. I appreciate ya watching and hope the info helped :)
