Working at the intersections of environmental science, business, & storytelling. It's a pleasure to meet ya!
My hope is to shed light on what the sustainability career pathway can look like through the lens of a first-gen Asian American and share the important lessons and experiences learned along the way.
Thank you Tyanna for sharing the experience and knowledge from the professional perspective, but shifting to the ESG sector, is it helpful financially and future-proof as a career stability?
I hope someone else posts their salary information too! I saw no one else has! I am a consultant in zero waste consulting, I started as a recycling coordinator, and that salary is about $65k/year, I then became a project manager two years later and went all the way up to $80k/year, and now I'm currently a director of projects, at $90k/year. I'm based in Orange County, California, Ive been with the company for almost 6 years. Most of our clients are cities/municipalities, and not many corporate clients. That client base affects profit margins. We are a small consulting firm. Hope this helps someone out there! Thanks Tyanna!
Hi! I'm a big fan of your videos; they're incredibly informative. I am Currently pursuing my undergraduate degree in biotechnology, I'm looking to pursue a master's in sustainability. However, I'm torn between sustainability management and sustainability science. My goal is to work as a consultant or in any industry. I'm not considering a PhD at this point. Any recommendations? What masters should I do sustainability management or science.
Hi Tyanna, thank you for this video - it is really helpful! 💞 I think I have a consideration call tomorrow (it's not clear on the email), so do you have any tips or advice on how I can prepare for it?
This was such an amazing video, so detailed and structured! I just had my interview for an ESG intern role and the question about where you see yourself in the future came up! So glad I went through your video before the interview, hoping to hear back with positive news - wish me luck!!
Hey. loved your content. I Have my interview scheduled for Sustainability data analyst, prior to this I was working as an ESG consultant. should I switch to sustainability Data analyst or work as an ESG consultant
Thank you, this was super informative. All your videos really help me navigate my journey (I do feel clueless all the time because I’m about to graduate with a bachelor’s in business administration, really wish I knew my calling clearly before, but your insight helps me figure that I can do it, just need to be smart about my next steps). I really appreciate it, keep at it♥️
hello! very nice video. I was wondering what the average salary of such a job is. Also if its worth doing a master on it and working at a country that isnt so much in recycling etc , at least until now.
Tyanna, can I just say, there is NOBODY else sharing the knowledge and insight the way you are doing. I am so glad I found you, you've done an amazing job of finding a niche and really grasping exactly what the audience is looking to learn! So much info on sustainability as a corporate career trajectory is not really helpful, not high quality, not relevant, or not useful. You're amazing!
Great video! I’m also in the sustainability field and have been working on studying for the CAPM (and I might actually just go for the PMP because I have just enough experience). Happy to hear you mention project management because it really is a great skill to have in this field 😊
Great. I was looking for some suggestions from someone working in the field. Also, for those in the pursuit of construction, BOMA Best, Zero Carbon Building and Fitwell are being shown in job requirements quite often.
Hey Tyanna.. I have a question. I'm currently pursuing a Bachelor of Interaction Design and am planning to minor in Economics. I came across these ESG/sustainability jobs and I really feel like I wanna work in these jobs in the future! However my degree isn't a direct path into this field :( Do you think the minor can help my chances of getting a job in sustainability straight out of school? Or what else can I do to increase my chances?
The music is great. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could buy the plastic-bottled product then after a purchase the store opens the bottle and puts the product in a customer’s container for reuse in the store.
Tyanna I am switching to sustainability from IT. Please help. I am not junior by experience but Junior in sustainability... Not sure how to handle this career change
I’d recommend for you to look at sustainability consulting firms and watch their free webinars! They’re always sharing free ones to market their expertise and trends in the space. Could give you a high level idea on the type of work that’s out there to see if it interests you
Hello Tyanna, your videos are really helpful full! I am currently on my first semester of Sustainability Analytics and management. Do you think we can have a one -on - one chat? There are some things I would like to ask you. Thanks!
Hi! I was wondering if you offered mentorship? I’m currently in marketing and want to transition into sustainability but not sure where to start. Resources would also be awesome! 🙏
Hi Tyanna, This video is super helpful! I am currently pursuing my undergrad degree. Specifically a major in Environmental and Sustainability Studies, Certificate in business as well as minors in GIS and environmental management. Do you have any advice on how to get ahead in the job market or certain skills I should try to obtain?
Thanks for sharing! This is really useful as I'm considering a career switch. Just wondering for both consultant and in house role, were you working as an individual and assigned to a project or you are part of the team for the entire project?
Hi great question! In consulting I was assigned to projects based on my skill set and in-house, it’s typically the same thing. Both always required working in a team vs just by myself!
Just came across this vlog. Excellent 👍 I have been working on learn and make transition towards this field. Recently made vlogs on sustainability reporting and taking liberty to share link here. Hope that would be acceptable 🙏 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-U9C-DvBR4rU.htmlsi=IlT4vgBK7-jynfzK
i also grew up right next to garden grove, so strange how disconnected our culture is from the natural world. it’s been a wild ride to make it to sustainability lol
So there’s a physical scientist job I saw and it’s job fiction is to provide advice to people..? I’m so confused you guys are saying one thing and this job says to provide advice to engineers and such on computer science
Responsibilities for each job title varies by company. The colleagued I interviewed works for the federal government in pesticides so her responsibilities are tailored to her department.
I am a recent grad looking to break into the sustainability space and your videos are so helpful and relaxing to watch! (Also I am a huge twice fan too so the mention of them caught me off guard)
Hi Tyanna, thank you for this video, it is a huge help for us. I would like to ask you why you chose the consultant and how did you think that you could do it?
Hi there, I chose consulting at the time honestly because graduating at the start of the pandemic left me with little opportunities to choose from and my graduate school projects involved consulting with several companies. It was the path that made my resume the strongest but was ultimately a blessing in disguise because I enjoy this field a ton.
I have been using this for years now and I also use the laundry and I love everything about it especially not using any more plastic bottles. I did find the bottles and the spray thing wear out or break easily if you drop them in I’m using glass spray bottles now so there’s still forever bottles. But while you’re doing this to have less plastics, check out shampoo, bars, and conditioner bars, I also love those and no more plastic in my tub!
Great content , I am an energy management engineer where I deal with lots of consumption data and refreing to standards and calculating co2 emssions from purchased energy. Now I am moving to climate change and sustainablity consulting role and I find your videos very helpful. Thanks
If a small business wants to make an ESG report on its own, then seek to get an Assurance statement from third-party independence. Where to look for? what type of company/service company and what titles have the authorization to issue and sign on the statement?
Hi! Thank you for the video! I am curious about the data analyst positions, how do you think we can find them? Specifically for the title of the positions, because in most of the cases I only find data analyst associate with finances
I’m 21 and going back to school for Environmental Studies and Sustainability in the Fall after getting my Cosmetology license, this video was helpful in solidifying/reassuring me in my decision!
