Hi, I'm Tristan. I travel and camp a lot in my SUVs, a 2000 Toyota Land Cruiser and a 2011 Toyota RAV4. For me, SUVs are the perfect adventure vehicle. I'm based in SW Wyoming and go on trips from there. I'm married and have a house but sleep/camp in my SUVs about 70+ nights per year.
My travels mostly revolve around exploring the mountains and deserts of the western US.
I write a blog about SUV RVing over at suvrving.com, and I wrote a book all about SUV RVing, which you can buy on Amazon at amzn.to/3Wxszp5. The book has tons of great information for vandwellers and even RVers, too! I post a new video every Saturday morning at 7 am (Mountain Time) and occasionally on Tuesday mornings, too.
I have a site where you can access a map of most of my campsites: adventureknowhow.com
My 2nd channel: ru-vid.com
Want to send me a postcard or something? Here you go:

Some land thats been in my family we can see the only cell tower in the valley owned by a private owned RV park placed on a hill right across the street from the land. No cell service runs off it because its middle of nowhere in mountains, so I can hold my phone out see no signal and the tower the same time. You have to get internet by spotty satellite there and in todays times this along with drought are why the real estate that valley is rarely selling.
Definitely holding my breath on your accent... too scary! I've seen climbers here and there but not close enough to see technic with the climbing rope; I always wondered how they retrieve their rope from above. So thanks for clearing that up. Spectacular views from the top and interesting to look at a miner's by-gone life and ponder how he got the milled lumber and bed-springs up there. Perplexing to say the least. Thanks for another exciting hike/climb. ✌☮
I'm excited to see your videos. Every time I think I've seen most of the stuff in an area, you find other interesting places there too. Glad to hear you adventure went so well. I guess we'll see if it rained much because to me that seems like the something that could ruin a motorcycle trip. It's bad enough when you have a car and camping trailer.
that’s so cool! i have a small dual sport that i used to use for weekend trips. the top speed is pretty slow, so i don’t get very far from home. i have a blast on overnighters, so a long multi day trip must be amazing! congrats on the bike!
If you *do* ever make it out to San Diego, you have a place to stay, and/or I’d be happy to feed you at my restaurant. I’d also show you the best outdoor spots. Cheers!
Hey new viewer here how are you getting such good directions? I'm sure you have GPS coordinates but are you using an app to get the properties or do you put the coordinates into the maps app? Let me know
With all due respect, you need a bigger bike to do what you want. Ever read "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance"? So much maintenance because the bike was too small. Having ridden all over the west, on bikes big and small, the larger, the better if you're going to travel the highways for extended periods. Love your videos, but you may have bitten off more than you can chew on such a small bike. Also, you don't drive a motorcycle, you ride a motorcycle.
HI TRISTAN 👋 JUST BE CAREFUL & HAVE FUN ! MAKE SURE YOUR TENT & EVERYTHING DOESN'T LEAK & KEEP YOU WARM & DRY ! HOPE YOU HAVE A GOOD TIME & FUN ! BE SAFE ☺️ 🙏HAVE FUN ☺️ 🙏ENJOYED ☺️ 🙏GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS ON YOUR ADVENTURES ☺️ 🙏THANK YOU ☺️ 🙏
As an older woman, sleeping in my car, I am going to put the screen inside the window. Seems a little too easy for some one to rip it off while im sleeping
Very cool Tristan 😎👍 I live in Philippines and these scooters are everywhere 😎 I would say get an X-ADV Honda, 750cc and very capable, add a top box and you have considerable storage (for a scooter lol) can’t wait to see the videos you post 🙏👍😎
Oh my gosh! You are carnivore! Something you said earlier in the video tipped me off...you mentioned that a steak fell through that one grill you showed earlier and then also, that you are on a special diet. I thought hummmm?, then at the end you said it. I'm going into my third months, I'm older and I'm doing it to clean up my act and get rid of some things. It's working and I feel great, so more power to you and ever onward. I'm also going to hit the road in my Nissan Rouge SUV for the first time, after I finish getting what I need to do it. No destination yet, but need to do a couple dry runs. Your video is the most helpful, for my situation, that I've seen. Are you on the carnivore over 60 fb page? It's a helpful support. Take care and stay with it. It works.
The so called roads...not actual roads, but traveled paths. I wonder when it rains, if the ground turns into mud? If so,, you will be unable to drive off the land for perhaps days.
Take note, no one else was living on those two large pieces of batten land....how come? No demand. That explains the cheap prices...I would gladly pay triple the price for land with nice tress.
VERY VERY FEW PEOPLE WOULD CARE TO LIVE ON THAT UGLY PIECE OF FLAT LAND WITHOUT TREES....IMAGINE WALKING OUT OF FRONT DOOR ONTO A FLAT HOT PIECE OF LAND IN THE SUMMERS.
YEARS AGO, I WAS A LAND DEVELOPER AND SPECULATOR....I LEARNED THE HARD WAY, DONT BUY LAND WITHOUT TREES UNLESS YOU PLAN LIVING THERE YOURSELF.....THE RESALE VALUE IS LOW AND VERY TOUGH TO SALE....SECONDLY, ROAD FRONTAGE...PUBLIC ROADS MAKE LAND FAR MORE VALUEABLE.
I have a motorized gas bicycle that goes 34mph and gets 130mpg. It fits on a bike rack on back of my car, no extra insurance needed, no license required, no registration, for now it's a great loophole in the law. I use it to shuttle between trailheads and boat launches on backpacking and kayaking trips. Saves me a ton in shuttle fees and it's really fun to ride too, good for little side trips where a car might not go. It's had the crap beat out of it for 3 years now and still going strong, it's been all over the country. Not a bad deal for less than 2K.
Yes that screams impractical, lol. When you do sell for a duel sport bike do NOT try to save money and buy one of these Chinese made bikes, you will regret it, not reliable and grossly underpowered in most cases.
I like property number two because it is large and near a bigger town. If and when you have children, or develop health problems, or as you get older, you will appreciate the town. I would try to determine the situation with the water. What if you decided to build on the property, could you put in a well? Whatever you decide, you should check out the zoning regulations and building codes as well as availibility of water.
Welcome back, Tristan. Glad itall went well safely and fun-filled! This part of the US and Canada is filled with spectaclar scenery and American Western History. Looking forward to the chronicles.
I suggest getting an Adventure bike for long trips. A scooter doesn't really have the power to pass vehicles and carry a lot of equipment. Look into the Honda Africa Twin, you can pick up the older ones up for a good price and they can carry plenty of needed equipment if you get the side/top boxes. They also come with a DCT transmission which is like driving a scooter, you can manually shift gears with buttons or let the computer do all the work. You get all the power without the worry of stalling going up hills and what not.
Let me get this straight. You buy land..you own the land...then, you are limited to how long you can be on your land..then...you have to pay for a permit to be on your land after a limit set to be on your own land??? Did I get that right? F THAT SHT! That is the biggest load of crap i have ever heard!
