Thank you so much, I really appreciate your kind feedback 🙏 I’m in the middle of filming a follow up, that dives into the topic of ‘choosing a spray tip’ more deeply 😄💙💯 Keep in touch.. regards Pete
@@PaintHQ greetings from PNG, I'm in Port Moresby the capital of Papua New Guinea. I'm an operator, i do works like "Road Furniture and Line Markings @ Highways but I reside at the city, was very much appreciated about your thoroughly explanation on tips , I'll take it as an yes. Here in the nation's capital (PNG), plenty of contractors are still in search looking for GRACO machines. I'd would be delighted if you sends some machines over
Hey Matt.. Thank you so much, it means a lot to receive such kind feedback.. A lot goes into producing informative and hopefully ‘visually entertaining’ videos, and it’s tough sometimes in a challenging YT market (alongside being a P&D) 😄 appreciate the support 🙏💙💯 Regards Pete
Pete ive been watching your videos they are very interesting. How long have you been spraying you do awesome work your a professional keep up the good work
Hi James, I really appreciate your kind words of support 🙏 My journey into spraying has probably been a little unique Vs your traditional professional P&D - my background was actually in I.T. Which I feel helped me take an analytical approach, and now share that information, helping others overcome the potential pitfalls 😄 Your kind feedback is very much appreciated 💙💯 Regards Pete
FICKIN KNEW IT, BIT LYING DAMN LUCK NO FUCKING PLACE HAD A NEW FFLP 208 UNTIL TODAY, I GOT A FEW DRIPS ON MY BASES OF THE CABINETS, FUCKED MY SHIT UP, NOW I HAVE TO USE FINE SAND PAPER TO FIX IT, LUCKEY I ORDERED A FFLP 208, AND CUSTOMER COOL WAITING FOR 2DAYS FOR IT TO COME IN, A DAMN WEEK SEARCHING, KELLY MOORE ALWAYA HAD THEM, WISH KELLY LOOR STILL EXISTED
Pete giving you a shout out from Hawaii the paradise islands appreciate the video in your opinion do you feel these machines perform a lot more better than the old ones? Or is it the low rpm will complement a long lasting pump the features are great though and I’m looking into buying this exact model thanks a lot take care
Hey, it’s an absolute pleasure to hear from you in Hawaii 💙💯 Thank you for watching and reaching out.. There is an improvement in performance that ‘transfers’ to the gun.. So the XT motor, in having an increase in torque, is able to spin cooler and quieter - so you get the improved service life as you say - And a steady running pressure, that is delivering improved efficiency to the gun.. Which actually improves even further with the future release of the Contractor XT PowerShot guns - an XT pairing ‘unlocks’ additional features.. Exciting times for airless spraying my friend 💙💯 ..Keep in touch, it’s always great to hear from you 🙏 Regards Pete
You’re absolutely right 👍 In this video I used the QuickShot to quickly prime and topcoat 2 internal door fronts, frames, sill, radiator and a small run of skirting / trim 👍 ..The walls and ceiling were sprayed with emulsion / latex using a 395 👍 thanks for your input my friend 💙💯 Regards Pete
@tomevans8749 Yes my friend 👍 The next day, all woodwork / trim / window / sill / radiator - all get masked (it’s a quick process) and the walls and ceiling gets sprayed the same colour 👍😄 Thanks for watching and your kind support 🙏 Regards Pete 💙💯
Hey mate how much do you thin your paints down, and is it just water you use? I’m using Scuff X on a Graco ultra and it says no thinning needed but it’s quite a thick paint imo. Thank you
Great question.. I don’t thin woodwork / trim paints for airless spraying.. I will cover this topic very soon on an upcoming video 👍 Certainly some manufacturers have more ‘sprayable’ products, equal to application with a brush / roller, and in my opinion BM is up there with how well products spray 👍 I’m not 100 percent familiar with Scuff X, but I hear many say it sprays lovely through .008” tips (FFLP 208, FFLP 308), at around 1200 psi.. Material thickness is not always an indication of flow / viscosity - I’d guess Scuff X will run freely and continuously off a paint stirring stick 🤔.. I will have to try it for myself 👍 Keep in touch my friend.. regards Pete 💙💯
That’s a good question.. On the whole I didn’t like how it sprayed. Basically a bit ‘taily’ - I upped the orifice size, from a .008 to a .010, and still the same.. in the absence of a .012”, I tested with a .014” and again no better.. for me a .008” was my best choice to let out less material, otherwise like you say it could be prone to running.. and being an Alkyd, it takes ages to dry.. with me being a fan of low viscosity, spray only products I’m kind of used to not overly coating - because low viscosity, is so free flowing, you won’t get away with any more than 2 passes Vs this Alkyd, also making the paint ‘free flowing’.. I will make a future video, where I’ll try and share what I’ve learnt and basically it’s not a ‘one size fits all’ when approaching airless spraying.. I have to say the finish of Aqua Guard, is very very nice 👌 Just takes ages to dry ☹️ Regards Pete
@maulstar1 Thank you my friend, I’ll double check that 🤔 Certainly a water clean up, but acts like an Alkyd in that it takes ages to dry and sands like a ‘cheese grater’ ☹️ Although I did really like the finish 👏👏👏 Maybe it’s Johnstones Aqua Sarin that’s Alkyd, and not ‘Aqua Guard’ 🤔 ..Appreciate your input buddy 💙💯 regards Pete
Hey Roman, appreciate your support.. I’m using an FFLP 208 on the doors and woodwork (in the QuickShot), an LP 517 on the walls and an LP 619 on the ceiling.. great to hear from you my friend 💙💛
This is funny I have the ultra quick shot I do the same thing I spray the doors in baseboards, and I also have a 395 with smart controls and a hopper rig just like that I was hoping somebody would do a video like this.
The walls and ceilings are not protected from the spraying. How do you treat them later to avoid any flashing from the wood paint? If I spray the walls with matte paint later, will the matte paint cover the wood paint?
I’m still trying to trouble shoot mine. I just got it. Did a quick test on Friday and sprayed a bright green color. It did amazing. Loved it. Cleaned it. Ran like 4 pots of water through it till i got clear water. Came back yesterday and wanted to try a clear coat. Ran some water to make sure it was nice and clean. Glad I did. Little bit of paint came back in the prime. Not much. Cleaned it again really well till everything was nice and clear. Dumped the water and added my clear. Primed. Painted. It did so good. I loved it. Just loved it. I did notice though when I went to add more material that there was an ever so slight green tint to my clear coat. It did not affect the finish so I kept going. Today however was not the same. I was very diligent in cleaning last night. And again wanted to make sure I cleaned it well so ran some water through it. Everything seemed great. Added my paint and moved forward. I noticed as soon as I went to prime the gun that a little bit of watery clear coat came up. It was fine for what I was doing so i continued. In my haste I did forget to filter my paint. I did get some junk in the filter. cleaned it. I can shoot water through it fine. Now when I add paint i get maybe two passes and then paint wont come out. I’ve tried everything.
Hello my friend.. the symptoms you describe, specifically ‘junk in the filter’, then being able to spray a couple of passes before stoping - suggests the tip is blocked.. if you remove the tip and tip guard, does paint spray through the line and gun?.. if the tip is blocked, try soaking in Pump Armour overnight and spray hot water (just hot from the tap), speed 10 with the tip in the ‘unblock’ position 👍 let me know how you get on my friend.. regards Pete 💙💯
@@PaintHQ Thank you so much for the feedback. I did try switching out the tips. But now I’m not completely sure I did. I will definitely try what you suggested. I really fell in love with the sprayer. I hope I can get it working again.
@AngieWilliamsDesigns You’re very welcome, and I’m sure you’ll get to the bottom of the problem.. I try to think logically and take a few steps back.. for example does water prime in the cup, then switching to spray (with tip / tip guard removed), does water exit the gun? If so, does the speed work 1-10.. if so, add a tip guard and tip and try a different tip, then does water pressurise and spray through the tip?.. I’m sure you’ll eliminate the ‘problem’ 👍💙💯 regards Pete
@@PaintHQ I was feeling so anxious last night and this morning fearing I had broke the gun. I just happened to get my new tips from Graco in the mail today. So before anything else I tried one of the new tips. I definitely made sure to strain the product. It worked perfectly fine. I feel so much better. I have the two tips I used yesterday in pump armor and will try them again tomorrow. Thank you for your help.
@AngieWilliamsDesigns Ah great news 💙💯 ..Yeah soak the problem tips in Pump Armour, then next day install tip in reverse (in the unclog position), and spray water through, speed 10.. any blockage should clear 👍 Regards Pete 💙💯
Hey buddy.. sounds a GXFF would be perfect - it lends itself to spray woodwork, with its hopper and small 3/16” 7.5mtr hose.. but is equally at home spraying emulsion 👍 I know of many GXFF owners spraying walks and ceilings, workings them pretty hard 💙💯 happy to help and advise if I can.. regards Pete
I can honestly say I’ve never had any issue with WP136 - it’s an acrylic base so has plenty of grip, - in my opinion it’s equal to any ‘adhesion primer’.. I actually feel the term adhesion primer is cleverly marketed off the back off traditional solvent primers / topcoat and those looking for new generation WB products to grip to old solvent 🤔 so yeah, I do very much rate AkzoNobel WP136 primer 👍 regards Pete 💙💯
Hi there guys 👋🏻 so I’m looking to buy a cordless sprayer, I’ll be using it for small jobs to big jobs ( big as a 2-3 bed I imagine) what’s your opinion, I’m thinking between GX21 -GXFF - 390 PC ….or maybe a combination between a QuickShot and a GX21? I’ve seen that 390 it’s the one that’s more durable and robust but doesn’t have the fini finish of a GXFF…. Super content by the way Pete 🫡
Hey buddy, thanks for your question, I’m happy to help and advise any way I can 👍 a cordless unit is a great choice.. the GX21 and GXFF have the same ProXchange pump, whereas the GX21 has a bigger tip support (.021”) Vs a .019”, down to a difference is motor gearing.. out the 2 cordless designs I prefer the GXFF, for its hopper design, smaller more flexible 3/16” hose and the excellent Contractor PC Compact gun 👍 ..the GXFF is equally capable to spray woodwork and emulsion / walls / ceilings 👍 You’re right the 390 has a ‘bigger’ more robust pump, still a .021” tip support, but a stronger pump.. the 390 is capable, just like any airless to spray a fine finish - but if you’re spraying more woodwork (smaller quantities), it can be beneficial to add a hopper kit, and maybe a smaller 3/16” 7.5m hose.. it’s something I prefer, I myself add a hopper and the smaller more flexible hose to my machines 👍 ..Take a look at the GXFF Cordless, I think you’ll like the gun - but certainly look at the 390 cordless if you’re thinking of smaller more often, day after day 👍 ..Keep in touch.. regards Pete 💙💯
@@PaintHQ thanks Pete 🫡 really appreciate the breakdown you gave to each of the sprayers, I also had the occasion to see and try a GXFf the other day and I was really pleased with it’s manoeuvrability and finish so I order one 😬 can’t wait for it to arrive 🤞🏻🕺🏻 I have another question if you don’t mind , I’ve seen you’re using now Kip masking tape instead of tesa , would you say it’s easier and practical? maybe a bit better ? Thanks again Pete , keep posting this videos full of great information 👏🏻🫵🏻💪🏻
This was helpful. As I said in other comments… I primarily will be painting furniture. I think the 106 or 108 will be the perfect tip when painting stiles and rails on dressers and thinner legs on nightstands and end tables. I always feel like I’m wasting a lot of paint because my fan with is too large. I really think the Graco QUickShot is going to my most favorite. Sorry for blowing up your comments. I’m home sick and binge watching your channel. LOL
I’m a woodworker and a furniture flipper. So I’m usually painting furniture. But I found your channel and find your videos very helpful. I do plan on painting my shop as well. So that does fit in. But I just find watching you paint a room fascinating. thanks for sharing.
I see that you used a secondary strainer. Is this necessary since the quick shot has a built in filter? What should I search for in the US for an equivalent floor protector?
I just watched a video you released after this one. It was how I found your channel. I asked then what the differences were for the tips. This video answered it perfectly. Thank you for sharing this. I found it easy to follow and understand. Definitely will be subscribing.
I’m laughing at the dramatic music playing during the room being painted. Of course…. I saw that as a compliment. I dont know if I would have already felt that feeling if I watched it without sound… but it perfectly matched my feeling as I watched you paint that wall and make it look so easy, effortless and quick. Amazing. That’s not just the tool at work… that’s a someone accomplished and knows what they are doing. Well done. I bought the Graco quick Shot this past week. Mostly for furniture and cabinets. But figured I would likely use it on more than that. When I saw the thumbnail for your video I thought you’d be using it for the whole video. I can see why you didn’t you would have had to do multiple refills and that would take longer. But for me… Since I will likely only be doing a room at a time and it would only be for my own home… I think the quick shot will do the job. Even with having to refill… I will still save time by using the spray gun. This was a great video! Only question… what’s the difference between the yellow and green tips? I know that the green ones are what I should be using. But was curious about the yellow ones.
Great sprayer I'm surprised that this didn't come out sooner , but I'm happy because it's made in USA . I also want to point out that the canister that's attached to the sprayer to pour in paint am concerned that there wasn't a lid provided in case you dropped something it will fall in the paint also to prevent paint dry out second thing is I think it should have a better support at the bottom like some type of rubber for the vibration and moving around to prevent any of the seals to go out while it's intact if that makes sense and for the fan location it's a bit small and by now I would've thought they had some type of filter that can be washed out or replaced to prevent dust and paint just like our air handler an easy slide in slide out air filter would suffice. My other concern is the feet. I've always lost a rubber slip on piece just like the handle it works itself out. That should've been replaced with square snap =in rubber feet to keep in place and not have to worry about losing the rubber feet or scratching floors etc. but all around it's a step forward to great improvement. My spray finishes will not be sagging or over excessively putting paint in tight areas. This is great for spraying experience but they still have to work on its framing to be able to wrap the hoses easier a location to snap in the spraygun in a grabbing handle that's more secure in the centre distributing the weight evenly not having to carry it awkwardly again this is a step forward Big plus for the motor compartment
Great to hear from you my friend, sharing your thoughts on various points 👍🙏 ..The hopper kit does come with a lid that snaps on neatly 👍 A point I can share about the fan - it very rarely comes on, and I hear it’s not designed to cool the motor as such because the new XT motor runs more efficiently and cool. It comes on to cool the onboard circuit board / electronics, a bit like a fan cools the internals of a personal computer 👍 Keep in touch my friend, regards Pete 💙💯
Technical questions for you my friend I assume it comes with a standard 15m hose 1/4 bore are you able to change to a shorter smaller bore hose and would there be any significant issues if you do
Good question my friend.. Yeah the Ultra 495 XT ships with a 15m 1/4” hose, and yes it’s no problem at all to swap to a smaller more flexible hose, such as a 7.5m 3/16” 👍 Perfect for fine finish spraying smaller quantities, in conjunction with a hopper 👍 Regards Pete 💙💯
Been sparying for few years on new build but never looked in to it before, I was only changing tips without the Little o ring thing , now u showed me what is what and what to do with It , great stuff thanks;-)
Pete you are the best. My most trusted resource on all things Graco. I ordered my Quick Shot because of your recommendation, and I will now replace my old 395 for the 495XT ultra. GREAT work Pete. Thank you very much.
Hey Paul, always a pleasure to hear from you buddy 💙 and as always I appreciate your feedback.. Wow, you’re investing wisely - an Ultra 495 XT will certainly be addition that will serve you well 💯 All the best my friend, keep in touch.. regards Pete 💙💯
Yeah I just pop the tip I’ve just used in the cup, where a little pump armour sits in the bottom.. but equally if you’ve flushed through the tip (it’s clean), you could leave in the tip guard - perhaps twist it a quarter turn 👍 all the best my friend.. regards Pete 💙💯
