Excellent video for me Harry inasmuch as it is validating what I have been working on for some time now. I will have to practice incorporating pushing down the arms with the pushing down the butt of the handle, which I have been doing! Well Done As Always Harry!
I actually practice this swing " feeling " of dropping my driver behind me during my driver tee shots and it has helped me reduce my big slices.....however , whenever I try to gain some extra distance and swing my driver a bit faster, my slice comes right back...any suggestions?....thanks
Excellent video of the release. Really explains well how you need to rotate the forearms whilst maintaining flexion in the left wrist (and of course, extension in the right wrist I really struggle with maintaining these wrist angles especially through impact - do you advocate the use of the Prosendr for this ? (saw tiur previous video on that aid)
Not sure you want hold the angle through the finish that will rob you speed and height. The benefit of holding the angle is to let it got at the right time during the down swing, and not hold it through.
@eJunkee thanks for commenting with your point. However if you don't exagerate this enough on the way through, hence the hold off. You wont do this enough when actually making proper swings.
Excellent video Harry on the easiest way to perfect the release! I like your "pushing the hands down and out" drill in order to get a good takeaway and backswing. What I have been trying to do is use a "gravity drop" of the arms and golf club on the downswing and use your forearm rotation while rotating my body through the ball! Well Done Harry!
@brimill8257 thank you, yes i've been struggling to find another ios connector that actually fits fort the mic i have. Still trying to find one, soon however i'll have to get a new mic.
Disclosure.... former golf pro here. Thank you for helping golfers with your instructional videos. 👍 .... Not trying to be a golf swing Troll here but I disagree. We want the body to move naturally during the swing. A golf swing utilizing natural body movement is easier to repeat and produces more consistent results, by far. Rolling the right forearm at address in that manner is not natural body movement. Note: athletically, when you're standing off to the side of an object inflicting a blow whether that be a golf swing, batting a baseball or chopping down a tree..... The body moves in a similar fashion. When you roll the right forearm as you show, the right elbow straightens which brings the right shoulder joint closer to the line of play (open) and creates tension in the right arm, wrist and hand. None of which is good. Therefore, IMO, rolling the right forearm is a manipulation. We never want to introduce a manipulating move into our golf swing. In fact, we're trying to do the opposite. We're trying to rid the golf swing of manipulations and junk. Moving the body into an unnatural position at setup before you even begin the swing is like trying to win the Indianapolis 500 with your car tires being out of balance. In competitive golf, If you take a golf swing into a multi-round golf tournament with a golf swing using manipulating body movements coupled with tension in the hands, arms and/or body..... You can bet the farm you're going to have one round where your golf swing is going to fall apart and your short game's going to have to rescue you.
@kevinprentice3113 Thank you for sharing your perspective and insights it's always valuable to hear from experienced golfers like yourself. I agree that too much manipulation can lead to inconsistency, and I always like to make sure I clarify that the adjustments i recommend wont suit everyone, but this has worked very well for some of my students hence why i've shared this.
Excellent video Harry on the proper way to start the golf swing! I think at times, I push the butt of the handle down too much too soon, leading to a narrow backswing and loss of distance. I know that I have to extend my arc in order to get a more complete backswing. Something I will paying close attention to! I like your palm down drill!! Well Done Harry!
Optical illusion of golf coming from inside is cause of all the problem. Club may look like its coming behind shoulder and hip but its because hip moved faster
@@harryshawgolf downswing. i think most amateur problem is they swing with hands. pros delay the hands. They cant see that move as its fast for the eye to see. They all see the hand move but they move hand but hip stays back and some of it due in inflexible unatheltic body. That said even 70 year old jack can hit straight. so its basically they just lazy to learn
@stonos282 hi thanks for commenting, as my editor has already mentioned, i'm trying to find a replacement for my mic or a new one. Hopefully sooner. Thanks for raising a valid point though!
James, take your cursor and hit CC (closed caption) and his dialogue will appear on the screen! This will help you until Harry fixes his audio difficulties!
@James-mh8zd my mic has been playing up since taking outside so i'm having to film content until i find either a replacement or another mic. Thanks for raising the point, i need to get this sorted sooner!
And in that fraction of a second you expect to square the club face consistently, ok son Personally I keep my forearms passive , and use my hips to close the face
@fradaja thanks for commenting with your honest thoughts on this. I think it's a great way of making sure the club face closes down for you. With you believing it's too difficult in a fraction of a second, rotate them over earlier on the downswing or have this set at the top of the swing. Rotating the hips... depends on how you rotate them/ fire them. If this works for you, stick to it!
@curtispowell8150 thanks for commenting with your thoughts on the video, this has made a difference to a lot of my students games so i wanted to show others online this also. But everyones different.
@kevinprentice3113 thanks again for the input Kevin. As I've just mentioned in my other reply to you, this has worked for my students so i'm always going to share things that have worked for them. Especially when they've been playing the game for years and have been struggling with the same issues. Everyones different.
@@harryshawgolf yeah, gotta stick to what works. Especially on the course. But I definitely can appreciate new methods. And when it comes to saving yourself from potential injury it’s worth going to the range and practice your method.
@jackal1776 Yes for sure, new methods are always either worth trying or just simply watching to see what you think, and if it's something you disagree with, good, because you know what works for you and what doesn't! Keep me posted Jack. Thanks for commenting.
@@harryshawgolf Aha! That may be the problem. I have a standard grip, light on the handle. I probably don't need the forearm rotation! Thanks Harry for putting me on the right path!
You'll be able to rotate the club face over more with the neutral or even more so with a stronger grip. But it sounds like you don't need to worry about this in your game.
Excellent video. I never made the connection between shoulder turn/plane and swing path, although after your explanation it is obvious. I struggle with my first move in the downswing where my trail shoulder moves out instead of down. Even with that first "over the top" move I still somehow manage to hit a draw most of the time, which requires some manipulation at the bottom. I will use this information and work on my trail shoulder path and dropping the club from the top into the slot while rotating. Good stuff, keep it up.
@dougrobison3130 thanks for commenting, really pleased to read you've found this video useful for your golf game. Looking forward to hearing how you get on with working on this shoulder change in your swing. Keep me posted, thanks again!
A great drill Harry utilizing a parallel club and swinging the right arm under the extended left arm. I think this is one of the best drills that you have shared with your viewers! In this video, you cautioned us to bring the right shoulder down, not out, in the downswing. In order to practice this move, I try imaging "throwing a ball or rock side-armed! " As Always Harry, Well Done!
@johnschwartz1536 Yes thats a great way to practice getting the right shoulder more down, or getting the club more under. I like to think of throwing a ball upwards, you'd don this by swinging down first.
@mikerichardson5022 thanks for commenting, yes there isn't enough time to really squat down from the top but for a little bit of a squat to take place... this works great.
Controling tension (fysicaly and mentaly) is key I have learned as a beginner, senior golfer. I have made most progress though with applying less tension in the grip. It is the first thing I check when I'm not pleased with my game.
@Michieldering thanks for commenting, it's interesting you've mentioned this as there have been a few other comments saying the same thing. Focusing on the lighter grip tension to release the tension from the arms. It's also a good first checkpoint to have!
Loose wrists are important to hinge and rehinge on the follow through ! Moderate tension in grip but loose wrists are the key to getting the max out of your strikes 🙌

10! I’m a big believer in the mantra, “Speak and the universe listens” and is so true. I use it with my personal life and business. I can’t believe I wasn’t doing it with golf. I’ve always focused on the negatives, “Don’t hit to the forest” and sure enough it did. 😅 This was great advice. Thank you!
@darryldioso9416 thanks for commenting Darryl, really pleased you've took some valuable advise from this video that you can also relate to with business and life.
I agree that tension is a big obstacle when it comes to hitting quality golf shots. Even though I have played this game for over 70 years, I still have an occasional tension anxiety! One thing that I have found to relieve tension is to lighten the golf grip on the handle and relax the arms and shoulders. I like the "sliding the hands up and down the leg simultaneously" in order to mimic the golf swing Harry! I also like the idea of "facing the chest" toward the target and the arms following at impact! As Always, Well Done Harry!
Thanks John, softening the grip pressure is definitely one of the keys to helping you relax the arms and shoulders. It doesn’t work as much with me but different methods suit different people.
Squatting also throws the hands on to plane at the 'slot' height - I'm so happy to see this taught, it's right and for some reason these days rarely mentioned. Another interesting research was that pressing on the outside of the right foot for a right hander (which is part of the squat), biomechanically as humans (something to do with falling out of trees apparently) , also throws the arms outward onto plane (just keep the wrists quiet). Thanks again, refreshing, honest, effective tutorial Harry. *****
Thanks again for commenting, really pleased to read that you agree with this move and I totally agree with you. It’s not spoken about enough. It makes a big difference with controlling what the club face does that’s for sure!

Love this video bc I have I have been struggling with the initial movement. I was trying to have my legs start the rotation of the swing. Would love a Chip vs Pitch video and would also like you to cover when and how the legs are engaged during the swing.
@lesnandor4310 yes you don't want the legs starting the rotation of the swing. I'll take a look at a video on the chip vs pitching swing. How the legs are engaged during the swing i would check out this video here... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bmGlVNAYilk.html the squat move from this.
Cheers for the reply Harry, golf is still rubbish well mid 80 is rubbish fo me I think it doesn't matter what I do it will never make any difference to my swing.😢
@roberthardind1622 i would suggest going back to what we worked on, trying that and persevering with it for a bit and see the results. If you're still struggling we could arrange an online session or face to face session if that suits you.
I could never hit a draw until I learned this move with the lead wrist. It works but it does take a bit of practice. Now I can hit a fade or a draw. Also helps to not come over the top as you will trust the face is square at impact. If you come over the top now you will hit a low duck hook!
@rw_golf6387 thanks for commenting, this is great to read. You've been able to persevere with this action of the lead wrist and it's now helping you perform fades and draws. Keep me posted!
@afruchter good question, after attempting to film outside in windy conditions my adapter from mic to camera snapped. Waiting for another to be delivered.
