We have some really special kids, and we bet your children are just as special to you. We have children on the Autism Spectrum Disorder - but that's never stopped them - or us - from having great family fun.
Getting labels like that can be debilitating for parents, much less going out in public when our kids don't act so...typical. That's why we created Picking Up the Pieces of Us. We know that there are a lot of families on the Spectrum that almost feel trapped in their own homes. We've been there ourselves, but we came to realize that all children deserve a place in the sun and an adventure to live.
Our mission is to provide visual stories of our children in their magnificent journeys. This is not a look-at-us movie reel or a therapeutic shop talk by professionals. This isa call to action for all families on the Spectrum to embrace their children's God-given talents and abilities, and just GO! Go on adventures you've never thought possible.
You can tell from his voice how the deaths of his son's affected him. I've lost my cousin to suicide and had to pull my father off life support. Tragedies like that will soften the voice and demeanor of any man.
The reason I looked this up is because we just left there and i got say this was amazing. This waitress was extremely nice but the food was the best bbq ive ever had. The tray for 3 to 5 was enormous so go there when your very hungry.
If you need groceries, there is a supermarket in Bar Harbor that has normal pricing. The only other reasonably priced store on the island is in Southwest Harbor. Bar Harbor is always crowded in the summer and gets particularly bad on rainy days. The RV sites at the Seawall campground are nicer, but it is farther from the most popular parts of the park. You can walk to the ocean from the RV sites in Seawall in 10 minutes. The drive up Cadillac mountain is only about 15-20 minutes from Bar Harbor. Of course I live on the island and know how to avoid the worst of the traffic.
A truly great person with a heart of gold. I used to see him as a bully like person but now I realize that was just a part of the act he portrayed to show his toughness.
Now we need a story of the Graham’s of wrestling, their story is just as devastating, The Great grandfather, the grandfather and one of his brothers, the father and the son all dead by suicide!
It was a long, long time ago. My first documentary! Can you imagine, I’m thinking seriously about going back to Unt to get my masters and documentary filmmaking.
I lost a Son...it was the most gut wrenching experience one can ever imagine...it never leaves you. It's not far from being 20 yrs ago...but not a day goes by that I don't think of him. I can't imagine the sadness that Fritz suffered...
He wasn't portrayed accurately in film. They didn't capture the insanity in the DFW and Texas area during their reign. They were gods in Texas! RIP Kerry, Mike, David, Chris, Fritz, Jack and Doris. Thank you all. Best to Kev!
Brings back so many memories.. my cousin and I along with my grandparents used to go to the Dallas Sportatorium every weekend to see Kerry, Kevin , David and Fritz Von Erich.. Bruiser Brody was also a favorite.. my grandparents were friends with one of the police officers that were always there and he made sure we always had the best seats! My cousin and I were teenagers and we were going to each marry a Von Erich! I miss those times..
@17:00 minutes i realized how dangerous times are nowadays. If you didn't know this man at all and relied on his depiction in iron claw youd think that he was just an abusive dad who lived vicariously through his children. But in this interview you see a man who even after his children are long gone is still very proud of who they were and who they became. His kids looked up to him to the point where they only saw wrestling as a means of becoming more like their father. Inevitably, this is what ended up being the fate of his children. Sad
@PickingUpthePiecesofUs hollywood is very evil and this was extremely traumatic. Kevin lost his entire family in the span of 30 years. To see it re told untruthfully must have been very traumatic for him. Hes even said so in interviews
Kevin is one of the few celebrities I’m glad to have met. His kids are great too. They asked me if I wanted to take them on. They were obviously kidding around but I did think about it.
I remember watching as a kid just waiting for that claw to come out. @12:50 Regardless which one was wrestling. I thought Kerry was the Incredible Hulk. He was my favorite. He was bigger than life. Kevin was by far the best wrestler (I didn't see much of David). Glad Kevin is surrounded by his loving family now.
I appreciate his pursuit of amateur wrestling, especially in a state and a time when it wasn’t popular. Fritz, certainly knew the players and the profession. I appreciate his unabashed respect for what wrestling was and how wrestling provided a living for him and his family.
Pam has proven to be a strong woman and stabilizing presence - working with Kevin to build a strong family life. This interview with her is strangely awkward and has a bit of a Stepford Wife quality to me - the curling up in the blanket is bizarre. Perhaps she was extremely nervous? Recent photos of her (2023) at the Iron Claw movie premiere show a confident, mature woman, there's just something very unusual about this older interview!
@@PickingUpthePiecesofUs blame the director and producer. The film didnt paint him in a very favorable light. And I've seen interviews with wrestlers who knew him and it wasnt far from the truth.
Not sure what to make of this. This man lost FIVE sons, yet he's grinning and reminiscing, and acting like its just another day in paradise. He's either got some amazing peace from God, or he's got a personality disorder. I can tell you if I lost all my kids before I died, I wouldn't have much to smile about, and nothing I'd accomplished would seem very important or worth talking about. I certainly would be in no shape to give interviews.
Fritz knew he was dying. He kept that from us all. All of his requests to me were to allow his grandchildren to see a glimpse into the real family legacy, not the made-up legends. This was the first interview he had consented to in nearly 10 years and he died three months after it was recorded. He seemed to be at peace.
He was just a strong man. He may not show it on his face, but I guarantee you he was absolutely heartbroken underneath. He was just being a professional and trying to give a good interview.
I was just explaining to someone else, Fritz knew he was losing his battle to cancer. He just didn’t tell anyone that he was fighting. He seem to be at peace during the entire process of the making this documentary. It all started when I transferred hours and hours of 8 mm home movies into video for his grandchildren. It was way for him to share the real family legacy with them, without showing the made-up legends that came with wrestling. For the first time in a long time, Fritz was able to be real.
Hey, I made it work! It propelled me into my first TV production of a local wrestling show. But on September 11, 2001, I took all those skills back to the Marine Corps and rekindled my career as a combat photographer and war correspondent. I never looked back!
One of my favorite memories of my dad, and one of the very few things he took me to see, was a trip to the Sportatorium! I got to see Kevin wrestle Buddy Roberts… and the R&R Express v the Midnight Express!! If you were a Texan back then… a trip to the Sportatorium was one of the “musts”. The other memory with my dad, (the only other thing he took me to witness) was a Cowboys/Redskins game. Don’t get me wrong, he wasn’t a “bad” dad… just always working. THANK YOU DAD!! I wouldn’t goof on him for that. Now that I’ve had multiple concussions, incidentally from being in Afghanistan, I can understand why Kevin doesn’t remember the reason.
I could hear them from UPMC when I was there with my son. This boy who loves rap music was even tapping his toe in his hospital bed lol he was enjoying it.
You said to make sure you are within the height requirements due to old rock bridges and such. Rec.gov says 11' clearance. My TT is 11'3". Am I screwed?
I can’t remember exactly, but I do remember seeing how low the bridge was once we had detached from the camper. I definitely be ready to deflate your tires, worst case.
The fact that this tragic story is now getting headlines and they still leave Chris story out of it ,just like they did in Iron Claw, the whole point of its tragedy 😢May them Rest in Paradise 🙏So sad
