I'm copy/pasting a comment i did on reddit that concerns the TK710 "I would advise you to stay away from that projector for anything other than gaming. It has great brightness and nice contrasts, but there are way too many problems with it. I replaced my W2000 with it a few days ago and i will send it back shortly. The main problems i have with it is that RBE is way more present than before. (Too much for me, and i did not see it at all with my W2000). It is also not that silent, even in ECO mode it is noticeably noisier than the W2000, but that stays in a reasonable range so that is something i could have done with. And there is an awful amount of dithering on the image as soon as the projector runs at 24hz. Dithering is to be expected on a DLP, and it is very reasonable at 60Hz, but when it switches to 24Hz it becomes frankly unusable for me. So much that I am kind of surprised that virtualy no one is talking about it. It was not even adressed for one second in a comparison video i saw. So maybe I have a faulty model, but if not, believe me, you do NOT want to watch movies with it. It is just unusable. At that price point, you will have to make compromises, that's certain, but not being able to watch films without some crazy grain running all over the picture is a complete deal breaker for me. Besides that, color coverage is not great, but i was aware of that fact before buying. (that was the compromise I was ready to make ^^) For gaming it is really great though."
From ur other video do u think this will perform similar to viewsonic lx700 laser. Bcz u completely discarded it in motion blur where lx700 added weird lines in ufo test. If this will be the same case in tk710sti. Then i will get the 1600$ deal on x500i
Np. But can u plz tell which one should I choose. Im getting x500i for 1600$ and tk710sti for 2000$. I can control the lights and my main focus is gaming. Or should i just avoid the projector and go with a 2000$ deal on 65 inch c4 oled. I play call of duty mostly.
Hi, what type of screen do you recommend for this kind of projectors (short throw)? I can't seem to figure out whether their image is super prone to distortions like in the case of UST if not accompanied by a properly tensioned screen or if they behave more like long throw projectors which can project with almost no noticeable distorsions on any decent screen (even non-tensioned ones) In any case, kudos to you and your hard work
Hey. I saw ur other video of x500i where u compared it to x2 4k, x3100i etc. N i was fixated on getting x500i. I still want to go with that. But tk710sti does look better from specs perspective. My question is did u check this projector for motion blur and blur busters tests? Like u did for other projwctors. How abt rainbow effect on this one. N plz can u play some fps game on tk710sti. Also 1 more question does viewsonic x2 4k really support 2k at 120hz on xbox/ps5 or its similar to benqx500i and tk710sti. I have to choose 1 among x500i. Tk710sti. N x2 4k. Plz some help here.
Does one of these projectors handle RBE better than the other? That factor would be the most critical to me as they seem very similar otherwise. Thank you so much for your thorough reviews. Nobody else on youtube is creating anything near their quality.
Great video! I'm interested in the TK710, and compared to a Viewsonic X1/X2-4K, do you find the BenQ quieter? The X1-4K was unfortunately too noisy for me
The X2 4K was in my gaming projector video on my main channel and performed similarly but slightly worse than the X500i: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-biXPgm-pxiU.html
One hopefully useful tip another youtuber (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F2DpLph1Rx4.html) found is that transparent, waterproof inkjet film (the waterproof part appears to be the key term) from AliExpress works well as a blue sky type of diffuser where it passes warm white light, but scatters the blue light, making it more like sunlight, although they've implemented it using a spotlight bouncing off a mirror with the film over the top of it. I've just ordered a roll of it for experimental purposes. If it doesn't work, I guess I'm stuck with 30 meters of inkjet film lol.
I don't think white would work, but deep blue combined with a more clear plexi. If you look at part 2 I did some experimentation with only velveting part of the box and the reflections definitely broke the illusion. I also tried crinkled aluminum foil which is an excellent reflective diffuser, but that also didn't look great.
I was going to suggest the AN Penta Mini, but you already got it. I got one and tested it a little with the esphome firmware. It works pretty well so far. Need to find a project for it.
Wouldn't you be better off putting some kind of broad light diffusion in front of the light source to spread it out evenly, and then having a more highly reflective colour (eg light grey) felt on the top and sides? Seems like you're deliberately absorbing most of the light you're generating.
I'm just kind of following the lead of off the shelf product. I think the issue with highly reflective top/sides is that it gives away the finite nature of the box.
If the matte \ gloss matters, you may be able to simulate that with tape (or a large format acreen protector) on a matte surface. Assuming the glue\adhesive is thick enough to get into the matte surface, it should go optically clear and be glossy like the protector. Its a similar trick to if you want to make a mattte window clear (putting tape on the rough surface).
Great suggestion. The second variety of plexi that I bought was too clear. I'm testing different ways of frosting it. I'm pretty happy with the overall look right now, but the glossy front (from the new plexi) is definitely interesting.
Where did you get your acrylic? I’ve been trying to source Rayleigh scattering acrylic like they put inside the big brand ones (Coelux and Yeelight etc) but haven’t been able to track any down. The trick is that the acrylic has nano particles suspended in it, which diffuse out blue light while letting warm light through more easily (just like nitrogen particles in our atmosphere) I found that some special inkjet sheets made for doing print transfers achieve this sort of effect somewhat, but not nearly as good as the materials I see in these units.
I genuinely wish I had 1/100th of your skills. You’re the kind of person I wish lived in my neighborhood. I’d be the guy coming by to help/be your assistant just so I could stand under the learning tree.
Thanks. Being the assistant is definitely a good way to learn skills. However, I think the biggest thing about learning new skills is just not being afraid to fail... it will definitely happen, but eventually you'll get it right and you'll learn along the way.
I have a BENQ HT3050 and looking to upgrade for both daytime picture improvement and 4K movies at night. Narrowed down to the TK710 and the X3100i but leaning towards TK710. I use an Xbox series X for all my smart features and have a 7.1 receiver based sound system. Am I on the right track with the TK710? Will it be a noticeable upgrade from the HT3050?
@@thehookupextras Thanks for the reply! This is super helpful. Just a quick follow up question if possible - does the TK710 have better (or comparable) black levels than the HT4550i? Contrast ratio comparable? Received my TK710 and it’s great, but noticing the blacks are not quite as deep as my prior setup. Curious if switching the “light source mode” to dynamic impacts the darks/contrast compared to staying on normal… seems to kind of fade in and out of the dynamic effect to me. I currently have a white projector screen so I may also consider a grey or ALR since my setup is not completely light restrictive. Appreciate any guidance!
Find a discarded LED TV. They have high quality diffusion sheets, will work better than the acrylic sheet! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8JrqH2oOTK4.html
I'm very interested in your progress with this project. After a small bit of time researching this problem, two main companies popped up. Coelux and Innerscene. I couldn’t find many technical details on how Coelux works, but did find that Innerscene appears to use a 3D-effect layer. I suspect it is a higher density lens but similar to the Nintendo 3DS or Apple Vision Pro panels. The 4 problems I found that need solving are: 1. Rayleigh scattering for blue sky but orange point light 2. Collimated light. 3. Cost 4. Size (support multiple sizes) For Rayleigh scattering, I couldn’t find a solid (non-fluid) panel that could produce the effect from a single point light. However, this seems like it could be adequately faked with LEDs. For Collimated light, this appears solved with the fresnel lenses and diffusers in the DIY Perks video. He has a second one where he uses a satellite dish to focus a point light, but at this scale, fresnel will probably work. I was thinking what if these problems were solved separately? A box, like the one in this video, could be made such that a blue-lit fresnel layer sits behind a sun layer. Top/ceiling space. Blue-led control layer Opaque Diffuser Off angle axis space Sun warm-LED control layer Less opaque Diffuser Fresnel lens bottom/Room If the orientation is such that the sun leds point towards a wall, but the blue LEDs diffuse down, you might have a mechanism to move the LED ‘bright spot’ across the long side of the box, to produce a sun-moving effect and temperature. The blue LEDs could act as the background sky and change intensity and color to simulate sunset, cloudy, and bright days. I don’t have a ready to go box, or diffusers to test this idea with. So I’m interested in what you come up with as a base.
Thanks. I am guessing this project will see multiple iterations. I'm building a single box first, but my intention is to eventually build 3 of them side by side once I'm happy with the results. The Coelux prices are absolutely out of control.
I think they're probably using some sort of mirrored dome/collector on the top with edge lighting to achieve the moving sun. Probably not something that's easily achievable as DIY unfortunately.
Is the tk710sti a better overall as a home and gaming projector? I know you did a bunch of test as to wether or not projectors were calibrated for gaming given the specs and cost of various projects types in the video you linked. Since the x500i and x2-4k performed similar given their setups.. would the tk710sti perform similar or better in those test as a gaming projector? Found x500i on deal for 1349 and trying to decide over the 710sti.
If you don't need the extra brightness of the TK710 I think the x500i will have slightly less motion blur due to using a 4LED light source instead of a laser and color wheel.
Would it be safe to assume the tk710 would perform similar to the lx700-4k in motion blur compared to the x500i? @@thehookupextras I'm in a smaller room and currently use a halo+ at about 123". Looking into short throw this time around to get the projector out from behind the bed. Room is light controlled since Halo+ doesn't have a high ansi for the length required. Is it possible to have too much brightness? So torn between x500i and 710sti. Screen is a cinewhite uhd-b. I had a x3100i in the mix but at that price the 710sti looks like a better value.
you might have better luck using a fresnel lens rather than just matte acrylic like how diyperks did his "skylight" out of an old tv ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8JrqH2oOTK4.html
Yeah, I've seen that. He was trying to make a completely diffuse light, these are aimed more at being a directional "cast" light that makes a skylight-like bright spot on the wall.
He also did another great project where he built a skylight from scratch using an LED spot and a reflector, then a liquid diffuser panel. You have the space in your ceiling to do that more ambitious project, mimicking not just the brightness, but the light angle and Rayleigh scattering to replicate natural daylight
Saw that one too. I definitely question the usefulness and longevity of that project though. Seems like the water would need to be changed very often and the potential for biofilm or minerals to build up inside the glass and ruin the entire project is large.
Hi. I watch only 1080p content in darkness , I'm thinking x500i . How is fan noise rekaticr to other projectors on eco mode for 1080p? I know the hdr is noisy but I won't use that for Movies.
Considering this projector & Hisense C1. I know the differences in gaming & color capabilities but am intrigued by both. Would love a side by side comparison of both for video quality. Online reviews/video/pictures make both look really good. Would probably be happy with either but still love to see side by side video comparison
But are really good. The tri laser on the c1 makes colors look more vibrant, but the x500i and tk710sti are more accurate and a bit easier to watch for extended periods of time.
Question about vertical offset with ceiling mounting. My fixed screen is pretty close to my basement ceiling. The BenQ TK710 has vertical shift only in 1 direction only down when ceiling mounting).with a 3” beginning offset. Think I’d have to reposition my screen for it to work without using any keystone. Can’t find info on Hisense C1 offset to keep from using keystone. How does the C1 have to be positioned vertically in relation to the screen to avoid using keystone?
I want to replace my 65" Oled tv with a projector for a bigger screen at least 120 inches, but for almost one year, I can't make a decision. Please help me . - the picture quality needs to be best for netflix movies. - good for PS5 , high refresh rate and low input lag - budget 3k I know nothing can replace Oled technology but biger from 65 inches are crazy expensive.
I don't think I've seen anything reviewed that has the contrast ratio of the TK710STI under $3000. 0.03 nits black floor and 5700:1 contrast is crazy. You would probably like that one the most coming from an OLED.
While I play shooters casually and also enjoy movies on a 120 inch screen I wonder if the HT4550i is worth the higher price compared to the TK710STi? Especially interested in the black luminance of both under the same conditions and how the contrast compares. I‘ve seen a review you did on th HT and I wonder if its blacks are really that much worse than the TK?
The contrast on the TK710STi is actually higher than the HT4550i. The advantages of the 4550i are: 1) Wide Color Gamut (WCG) filter for 100% DCI-P3 coverage 2) Vertical and horizontal lens shift 3) MEMC/Trumotion and 24p mode
I had the 4550i and x500i, I would recommend getting this710STi. The blacks were pretty poor on the 4550i. I felt the picture wasn't as good and you are paying more. If the 710STi is basically the X500i but better, that's a win.
I won't review the C2 series until they get a global release. I'm waiting on it too. N1S review on Sept 13th, N1S Ultra and Mars Pro 2 on October 11th.
@@thehookupextras Hey bro ( confusions n more confusion!!! now when i was ready to buy one of your next reviewd projector . new news came with a launch of one more model . now its Jmgo n1s ultimate. now ,, again i got to keep waiting n waiting.
@@janmaycuts Yeah, the releases are happening rapidly now. I will be including the N1S Ultimate now, but the date has been pushed back to November 8th.
@@TheHookUp hey bro are we gonna be made thoughtless . now one more groundbreaking release with kickstarter ( valerian vision master series projector with native 4000:1 contrast ratio. isf certification , dynamic contrat 15000:1 . ) Sorry bro but wait cant get over !!!!!!!
Thank you for this amazing review! And +1 on the TK710 review request 🙏 Btw, how does the TK710STi compare to the Dangbei Mars PRO 2? (or at least the original Mars PRO in case you haven't tested the PRO 2). Thank you!
Having compared the MLM 2 Pro to TM4(no RPT balls), and on course numbers… other than the aesthetics of not having it sit behind the ball, it really is the best launch monitor for the money. If we just assume the Eye XO is the accurate unit, a $7500 difference is insane. These videos are great, because they confirm I made the right decision in buying the MLM 2.
I got my order of ball dots in, and they are 100% better than sharpie dots. Not only do they not ruin the screen but they were almost identical to the RPT Callaway balls. Going to take my MLM2Pro to the course with me next weekend and track my shots compared to GPS with 18 birdies. Should be fun.
Both these projectors sound great. But I need something with a longer throw ratio (92 inch from 2.5-3m), unfortunately both fall short. There’s the TK710(not STI). Is the same just with a different lens? Would this review apply to that model too or are there other differences? Also, is there a longer throw version of the x500i? The x3100i is a little out of my budget.
Would you go with the regular throw version of the Benq tk 710 or the jmgo tri-laser projector? I hate that there are so many options but I’m just trying to get the best bang for my buck in overall performance.
One thing to consider is the speckle, a huge issue on the JMGO and it does not have the dynamic contrast of the Benq, although the native is very similar.
