The answer is yes the hype is definitely they are trust me I've been to several Dragon cons I really thought it was overhyped at first but no it is hype for real and it gets more crowded every year. DragonCon is a fan orgasm expo fun time event It is so cool honestly. It is a big nerd party You are having fun in costumes and your partying for damn near 6 days straight. So if you don't really like crowds if you're really nervous with people don't go but understand you going to party You going to have some fun

Dragoncon doesn't shut down room parties. The Hotels do. Also the con doesn't make money off of autographs or photo ops, those prices are set by the guest.

Edward James Olmos put it perfectly. ComiCon is where I go to promote my shows. DragonCon is where I go to hang out with fans. He stated DragonCon is more intimate and fan driven whereas ComiCon is more corporate driven. Side note: ComiCon came to DragonCon to learn about silos. FYI I’ve been going since the 1st DragonCon, so I have stories.

@howtodragoncon
@howtodragoncon 4 дня назад
@@shanescott7763 Parking downtown on a holiday weekend will be a nightmare. Not just with prices but full lots and contest traffic just trying to move a half mile. If possible, park at a Marta station and ride in bc Peachtree Center station literally drops you off at the host hotels. Parking under 24h is free in the stations that have a parking lot (look at Marta site to see which ones do). Definitely bring cash. Most vendors and food places take card but some celeb tables only take cash. And the ATMs in the area could run out over the weekend.

Remember the 6-2-1 rule: 6 hours sleep, 2 meals, and 1 shower per day. You are going to be doing a *lot* of walking. If you are wearing new shoes, start breaking them in *now*! When bringing your own refreshments, the hotels (especially the Hilton) are cracking down on outside alcohol. Have fun. It literally is a one-of-its-kind experience.

Oh! There is a dress code for females at least! Especially people with body paint… can’t show nipple even if painted over. They will make you put on tape over even if you are fully painted. Try to get pasties near your skin color and paint that over so you won’t get flagged. Also read the rules for the props for cosplay!!! For some of the parties they won’t let you take bottles in! One year they checked us and made us leave the bottles out side the ballroom. 😢

Great tips as always. Love what you do on your channel. Been going since 2011, only missing one year. However, because of necessary life choices, me and my wife have decided this will be our last Dragon Con for a while. That being said I want this to be the best year we can make it. I wonder if you or anybody can tell me of some not well known things that we could do.

It’s hard to recommend events since everyone is so different. But I just try to dabble in a little of everything over the years: voice actor improv, robot battles, just chilling in the drum circle, karaoke of various types, catching the big photo shoots to name a few.

I hope they have a theme this year too. I'm sad I missed the Mario theme. Also I agree with you on the hotel vendor thing. I didn't go to Dragon Con but I went to Blerdcon this year and they had a similar issue. There were too many vendors and they had one selling popcorn in the lobby where people usually sit down and hangout. It made the space feel too commercialized.

This will be our 17th DragonCon so obviously we love it. But everything needs some criticism and if I had one it is that the con listened to the folks whining about the crowds a bit too much and spread the con footprint out a bit too far. I When I started it was 3 hotels and I think it could have been kept at 4 with maybe one AM building for gaming. don't think they needed to add all the Americas Mart Buildings nor the Westin. It just makes it a pain in the ass to get from A to B sometimes.

Over the years, I've missed three DragonCon because of IRL, but have otherwise attended since 2003. The short answer is, absolutely it's worth the hype. No doubt or hesitation on that answer. Some of the stuff mentioned near the end of this video; people having a bad day, people that need to shower a lot more frequently. These are, of course, things that can happen anywhere. They will not ruin your extended weekend at our con. I say that as both a long-time attendee of DragonCon, but also as someone who has helped run the con. Yes, DragonCon is the big party con, and it goes nearly non-stop these days from some point on Wednesday, all the way to Monday evening. The descriptions in the video are accurate. In some ways, DragonCon fairly is several smaller cons, under several very large roofs. It more or less takes over downtown Atlanta when it arrives. Some of the assimilation is nearby businesses that go con-style to get people in to spend, be it eateries or other stores. Some become sheer necessity, such as the local CVS, that stocks up on nearly military scale before the con starts. DragonCon really is its own animal, its own organism. It's fun to get down a day or so early before the events officially start. When you're seeing stuff getting moved around and set up. Watching Peachtree Center become a hive of activity and preparation. There's a palpable sense of buildup before the convention officially starts...it's a vibe and synergy and keeps drawing many of us back, year after year. DragonCon truly is special. Some like to call it Nerdi Gras, sorry circus people; I call it the truly greatest show on Earth. Some people have compared it to annual therapy. I recall an ATL radio DJ that once said if a warm fuzzy feeling stays with you for months after an event- than that's when you know it was for real. I don't recall the original context of that remark, but that's exactly what DragonCon is. One simply does not go to DragonCon just once /Boromirmode
