I know you said you're working on how you choose to respond to racist/prejudiced/bigoted remarks, but I'd advise you to let it out. You're not helping them by pulling your punches. You're actually teaching such people that Indians are more "accepting" of such vile because you're not responding with honest emotion. No. I wholeheartedly disagree with this among many other platitudinal narratives about race, that the consociation of American left-wingers purports on all Indian American Republicans. I am a first-generation, teenage Indian who ardently practices Hinduism, retains my two native languages, and additionally has numerous other Indian Americans I am proud to call friends. But I am a political and social realist. If it is factual that the vast majority of opinions I place regarding political dilemmas in the US are right-winged or Republican, then so be it. I am exhausted of myself and right-winged Indian-American socialites being labeled as zealots of secularism or disingenuousness to their ethnic heritage, and yearn for more impartial judgments and that others gain some clarity. Unlike what most Indians touting liberalism believe, Mr. Ramaswamy did not pride himself as a panderer to egregiously racist white supremacists, or White conservatives no less. As I and the growing population of Indian Republicans know, his political opinions are grounded in logic, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to the welfare of America as a whole and his determination to rectify its flaws (notably within the Ukraine-Russia warfare). And yet, many people still capitalize on the misguided perspective that he was "trying to distinguish himself from all other ordinary Indians" and was "slapped in the face with a reality check" when one distinct political commentator opined racistly about him (whom he vehemently criticized later, unbeknownst to most people). The fact that one of the hardest-working AMERICANS was still perpetrated by some anti-ethnic rhetoric, from people who cared zilch about him as a politician but more about his race and his party, is not only a disgrace but an elusive form of racism as well. And none of what the Indian-origin candidate proposed with regard to immigration warranted a decry of anti-ethnicism either. We are both congruent in our desire to deport unlawful immigrants from our country. I would argue it better compliments his immigrant parents instead of doing them a disservice, as it is better for diligent visa-seeking foreigners if they do not have to wait to people cutting in line, but alas, that is a whole other argument. And I barely feel disheartened when he discusses the importance of regulating (not halting or opposing) immigration, in fact, there are several contentions, that AREN'T XENOPHOBIC, that validate it: a concern regarding assimilation, long-term population sustainability issues, and several others. I commend Vivek and other brave Republicans for being rational enough to even address it, not because they are bigots, but because they are obliged to make at least some constructive criticism for the welfare of our CITIZENS, a principle the US Constitution and our founding documents embrace. That being said, I truly hope that more Indian Republicans, Trump supporters, and the like feel more earnestly about their political beliefs, breaking free from any racially-motivated agenda that they were pigeon-holed in before.
Its because they agree with certain values of Republican party. It does not necessary mean that they are hard core extremists. Also ideas of free markets and strong family values.
