I speak with a somewhat polished Edinburgh accent (like a consistent version of Mrs Doubtfire). I wonder how I would be perceived down south. My experiences worldwide is wholly positive -- everyone from Oxbridge types (with whom I occasionally work) to the working classes (with whom I comingle day to day) have always responded to me seemingly without negative prejudice. However, i do wonder how they would consciously summarise their impression of the accent.

And how would the upper class say it? They would probably align with the working class rather than the middle class, wouldn't they?

English is behind with writting, how brugh from Edinbrugh is pronounce like borrow it doesnt make any sense for me. It shoiuld be spelled : Edinbro with (any conson you wish at the end because you ignore it anyway, like: h or g :) ).I think an accademical valuation of how words are spelled now in English is required.. like new characters, words spelling etc. For eg how the hack can i make a difference between rice and rise, contextualization meaning in spoken language need to be eliminated, and so on..

Jade, you have something interesting to say about whatever word you choose. Every single linguistic aspect and your wise and learned commentary enlighthen the world of the English language everyday. Thank You. (I feel like an enthusiastic German student of BE linguistics again. I should have taken up British English instead of this Mid-Atlantic regional dialect I wish or pretend to have sometimes.)

I think it best if I avoid the word, "mischievous" altogether 🤔 My plan is to deploy the word, "impish" into my vocabulary and then act like it's always been there 🌊🐬🌊

Native English speakers make plenty of pronunciation errors. I just heard two of them. In English we say "An interesting idea" , not 'A interesting idea" . Likewise we don't speak of 'A Error' in ,but of 'An Error". I would think that since I'm American, maybe, British English has different grammatical conventions regarding this point. However, I've read plenty of British literature and I haven't come across this practice in any of the books I've read. Just being a native speaker does not automatically make you an authority in English grammar and English pronunciation. This does not in any way invalidate the idea that if you're learning English as as a second language, you'd be better served by having a native speaker as a teacher.

I think you might be wrong about Ask being pronounced as Axe. The Axe pronunciation goes back to Chaucer and is just an alternative. Some people ascribe prejudice as the reason others dislike it

As a computer expert, I can tell you that ChatGPT makes me very concerned about the potential impact of AI on our lives. Having worked in this field, I understand the complexity of this program and the immense intelligence that went into its development. We've seen how computers can grasp syntax-like how Google Translate performs well in that regard-but ChatGPT understands semantics and does so exceptionally well. I'm truly amazed by how it rewrites my sentences in the most elegant way. I used to pay someone to rewrite my correspondence. I don't use her anymore; I just use ChatGPT.
