Based in the UK, bought a 1960s house which could do with bulldozing and starting again! Video are mainly focussed on DIY but could be anything I find remotely interesting.
Having wanted to be a carpenter fresh out of school, I was convinced otherwise and moved in to the corporate world, a choice I often struggle with... "what if". Anyway, keen to always have a go, I renovated my first house top to bottom almost entirely myself. Not having had the time to make videos first time round, this time will be different. First house sold, and we've moved on to a new project (disaster) that requires another full strip out and rebuild.

Just seen this! How is it now? Hope you managed to eliminate them. We had a couple over the years under the floorboard. It got through the air vent in the brick wall. Make sure you have no debris, food, bird food outside. They bring food in to store as well. Check all vents, chimney flue, pipes and gaps in pitched roof/porch. We put a strong metal cover over the airbrick (which had a large hole in it) and did the rest for all airbricks. They hate the smell of bleach apparently. It worked for us. Keep those anti-bacterial wipes handy too.
Not had any critters since we've been in the house! Lots of traps set, nothing. No scratching at night, smells clean in the loft. I honestly think they vacated the area before we moved in. A previous neighbour used to feed birds like crazy so, I think that was their food source
This is something I need to do! I can see you have planted the dreaded Leylandii trees! They grow fast, wide, tall, huge trees. A bit close to the house and will need constant pruning, block sunlight and nothing grows underneath. Keep an eye on them, they are hardwork to maintain.
Good attempt, thanks for sharing. We can see clearly, the faults of buildings and what to look out for. Have you had the flat roof re-covered? If so, can we see the new flat roof?
Good video . If the hinge isn't bent it can be loosened up so it moves with way it is supposed to Then the window will shut properly. Clean around the hinge with a stiff brush and use wd 40 open and shut the window to get it moving properly. This worked for me .
Some of the hedges are now 8 feet tall, albeit quite sparse still, some are still around 4 feet tall... most of the growth has taken place this summer. Wind and exposure seems to have an impact on growth. I will make another video to show progress, I'm impressed with the growth but, almost 18 months on I was hoping for faster growth.
I have the same problem and noticed it was caused by the problem you mentioned towards the end. Video was well made and encouraged me to follow your method. Thank you for your time, effort and for sharing. It is greatly appreciated.
Another tip is that if you have the same window as on the first floor you can swap the hinges if they are better condition and then change the lower window hinges for the new, if they need more adjustment in situ , which can be the case such as mine seem to be. This I feel is safer option. Also I am thinking of removing the glass unit to help reduce weight in upper window too
Nice video and good for you unpicking a problem and with logic and probably RU-vid fixing it without shelling out thousands. I have n old 1960 bungalow and going through the same problem.
"In the bathroom now /slash workshop " made me laugh . It's ironic you made the statement in the toilet. Growing up, "slash" meant going for a pee , yes I know I'm infantile . Apart from that , new to your channel , enjoyed you video 👍 Have to respect your honestly when you announce that you are out of your depth when it comes to fixing the roof , good on you .At present working on a 1969 property . You got to wonder why professional roofers are watching these videos and then criticising 🤔🤣… he found the leak and fixed it. I’ve had several ‘professional’ roofers do several bodge jobs and not fix a thing.
You could have trimmed the ragged ends of the old membrane as they serve no purpose and eave protectors should be under the membrane as was said already. Well done for having a go at fixing a roof anyway, just they need ladders etc makes them a pain. I’ve a phobia of heights so it’s tough tackling my roof but I did it.
About to start on doing this on an acre of land with no trees...This is helpful. I think I will go with 6fters in the front for an instant privacy hedge and some of these smallers for the sides. appreciate the tips mate.
Honestly, you get what you pay for & this is evident from the workmanship. All cables lying around, not a cable cleat in site. Looking at the single cable down to the switches I’d assume they’ve used a 3 plate method, but regs now we should be taking the feed to the switch, so this already doesn’t comply with latest regs. Shame on them.
Roof tiles are cheap. Felts cheap . Battens cheap. Why would you make a video using cheap nasty flashband . It’s temporary roof repair tape. Makes me laugh when I see people like this trying to do it themselves and they just cause more damage and problems, then wonder why it’s costing so much to remove everything. Take advice people . Do not listen or take advise from this clown who made this video
