Welcome to my channel! “Coastal GX” is dedicated to all people who simply want to make a change and try something new and adventurous. It is never too late! I plan on talking about overlanding, camping, fishing and explorations of Deep South Texas (Rio Grande Valley) and it’s surrounding areas. Hey, if this couch potato can do it, so can you! Join us in our adventures. Please like and subscribe if you dig my positive vibe. GET UP, GET OUT, DO SOMETHING!
Awesome video. Do you do these off road installations or do you have a preferred vendor in the valley who does these for you? I'd like to do some work to my rig.
Some things I do myself, but I leverage heavy projects to Truck Toyz and D&D wheel alignment; both in McAllen. They do everything. From bumper installs to lifts and so many other things.
I find it funny that people expect to be paid but expect a free jump to dead battery, carpool for free, or ride to gas station when they run out of gas
I live on the Texas Gulf Coast. The go to beaches are Galveston and Corpus Christi. Few years ago stumbled on South Padre Island. Could not believe the beautiful, clean waters and real sand beaches. PINS cannot compare. Great restaurants and fishing. I just don’t go during Spring Break. Now, I’ve stumbled on Coastal GX and I am a fan. Keep up the enjoyable videos. Got to get myself a kinetic tow rope and I’m set.
Thank you for sharing. I prefer SPI too, but PINS has its own charm since it offers such a long stretch of drivable beach. I was disappointed with the amount of trash though.
I spoke with one of the officers one day and he tried to explain. It’s kind of complicated because the speed limits vary depending on the stretch of beach you’re on. If it’s turtle nesting season, the speed limit is slower.
Great video Robert. I tried this a few months ago but only went up yo the ufo. Would love to get out there again soon. Lots of useful tips. Would you recommend any time to avoid potential high tides ?
There are some fishing apps that show you when to expect the low and high tides. It’s never the same. However, the biggest impact is the weather. A high tide and a strong cold front is a definite no for me. Lol
Great video! I was measuring on Google earth selling with your drive. It is 6 mi. Are your tires over sized compared to stock? That would throw your OD off a bit.
Great video! I know they charge at beach access 6, but do you know when they stop charging seasonally? I think by October they are no longer charging until the beginning of the next season? Can you verify that?
Thank you. It may be as soon as September at Beach Access 6, but I’ve noticed in October myself. That’s when entering in a 4wd is really recommended since the entrance is not maintained.
@@CoastalGX Thank you. I'm local and have been stuck twice in my AWD Honda Pilot. Once I was charged $300 for recovery, really! Thanks for the heads up on the maintenance. Love your videos!!
@@CoastalGX Yes, can't remember the name, but after calling them they showed up with a dually which promptly also got stuck for awhile. Had a good laugh at that! I didn't know then how important it was to deflate my tires first. Lesson learned! Thanks for your educational videos!
I was going down to big shell one morning on a turn and burn lure day trip and I pulled up on these two guys in their bathing suits holding beers at 7am about 30 miles from the 4x4 sign and they jumped into the middle of the high road (high tide) so the sand was soft and I wasn't trying to stop but I did have most of the recovery stuff and my tire pressure lowered so I stopped in the middle of the road and these guys were wasted and acting weird. I thought they had some major mechanical issue or they were stuck in the soft sand. They asked me do you have cables, LOL! I was like you fuckers came down here on an overnight without a jumper box? Anyways they didn't have fishing poles so IDK WTF they were doing lol. I helped them out and caught some jacks and reds, funny addition is about 20 miles out from SA my gauges and radio all shut off and the next morning my truck had to be jumped! Had to get an alternator the next day after going down PINS so it can happen to anyone, so be prepared with medical, recovery, mechanical, security, etc. Keep up the good work GX!
Thanks for sharing your adventure. It’s a pain carrying so much gear, but we learn from experience lol. Yeah, I think those guys were just being dumb 😂🎥
another great video by you. QUESTION: friday on pins we saw a guy inserting a pole in the sand up next to dunes in a big rectangle as if he was lookin for something. there were flags in sand in areas that i guess he had already searched . apparently we missed gettin a picture n i dont remember how far down it was, but we went down almost 20 miles. any idea what he was actually doin? TY
The camera clearly shows the truck’s mirror close to hitting the man by the beach. It was enough to make him react. Nothing wrong with calling this out. Looks like society is divided into two camps and one of them advocates for stupidity. I’m trying not to be on that side.
@@CoastalGX That's all well and good. however, if you have spent any amount of time on the beach, you would know (especially during peak tourist season), that with the amount of people flying back and forth, that is just the way of it. And, if you react like this to every single time it happens, you're not gonna have a good time. maybe staying indoors is a better option...
Great video! Quick question, at the end, when you were talking about "funny stuff" happening over there at night.. is it just rumours? Or are you talking from experience..
Great video I have been thinking of going to checkout the East cut but always wondered how long of drive it would be and how the conditions could affect beach drive. This answers many of the questions. Only other question is how is the fishing out there right now??
The tide gets high along any shoreline, including the jetties. No bathrooms, so please make plans for that in case. I bring a portable toilet and waste bags. I don’t leave anything behind. 🎥
Thanks Robert, do you know if Texas veterans get free beach access? I know for PINs veterans qualify for free admission, but not sure if down south its still considered a national park?
Saw you this past weekend, when you were deflating your tires to 14 psi, that was my blue truck passing by on the background, keep doing a great job at spi!!!!
man robert your telling everyone the secrets but i have to say after going to that beach for 11yrs thats best ive seen it but dam do i miss the rutted out entrance were everyone in the car is making bets if were gonna make it. but i cant wait to go catch those spi fish but hey robert are you able to go all way back in the east cut or are you only able to go to the jetties still
Probably. I think the key is not to make any sharp turns at high speeds. Make sure to air back up when u hit the pavement. I’m on 34’s and don’t have beadlocks
15psi on 35’s is not a big deal as long as you don’t have wide wheels. Narrower the wheel, it tucks the beads in and keeps them sealed better than wide wheels.
Hey Big Man! Solid video and I'm about to buy a SOLO Skiff in south Louisiana. Do you still enjoy using your skiff and is it everything I think it might be? I'm 63 and will be looking for a comfortable mesh seat, if you have any suggestion(s) on that. Thank you!!
It was a nice setup for me, but I sold it some time back. You’ll be very happy and surprised with the stability. I don’t remember the name of the seat, but it was comfortable. Check out the videos I have on the skiff and maybe the name appears on it.
