Hi there a big welcome to the channel! My general advice with different exam boards is firstly always check with your teacher / course leader. There will be loads of similarities and relevant advice in these videos, particularly around terminology for Acting and Design, so yes spend time learning these. BUT the questions for the IGCSE are structured in a different way and will likely require a different approach, so definitely worth checking with your teacher / course leader if you’re unsure of anything 👍
You’re welcome I’m really glad you’re finding them helpful! At the moment I haven’t considered what CPD for schools might look like. Other than teaching the Eduqas spec I’m not associated with WJEC - so I’m just trying to create good resources for students. But that said, is there anything specific you’re looking for in CPD? It might be something to consider down the road or it could be another video / series for the channel. I’m always open to new ideas and suggestions so would be great to have your input!

@@KyranMason same here. I’m really nervous about how it goes for me. I did horribly in the mocks and I don’t want to end up having the same thing happen to me again
Dan, one quick question. I know this is a bit last minute but do you (or anybody else in the comments) have a structure for design questions in section A? This was great but is mainly focussed on acting skills movement. Thank you!
Dan, one quick question. I know this is a bit last minute but do you (or anybody else in the comments) have a structure for design questions in section A? This was great but is mainly focussed on acting skills movement. Thank you!
With design questions I find it best to always start by addressing these two areas straight away in the first part of your answer 👇 1. Original Staging / Structure / Style 2. Your choice of stage / Structure / Style Original staging is always asked for but sometimes it can be hidden in the question itself rather than shown in bullet points…so read it carefully! Then…state your choice of stage / structure and style…even if it’s not asked for! This is because regardless of what design options come up (Lighting / Set / Props / Sound etc) you will need to think of these in relation to the stage / structure and style…so, it’s very important to know what they are! Following that, address the bullet points with your ideas and ideally try to find three clear moments in the extract to talk about. I’ll do a video on this soon…but for now I hope that helps and best of luck in the exam!
dan i have a quick question before tomorrow. in section b in all previous past papers it says "2 key moments" however, the sample paper provided for 2024 mocks, it said "one key moment" are you aware if on of the other is confirmed?
A good question. Yes 2022 does say one key moment also, so it’s best to prepare for two scenes. Even if it does turn out to be one moment, these will always be out of 15 marks. So just pay attention to the details of the question and make sure you’re hitting those bullet points with clear details specific examples 👍
I can...the film is in the editing stage at the moment. Hoping to have it out early next week before the exam on the 9th! But will upload as soon as it's ready 👍
Great ideas Dan thank you , I agree listening over and over helps to get it into your memory. I like to listen to various actors doing the monologue I am going to do
Hiya, do you think you could do a video on i love you mum i promise i won’t die, especially when it comes to how you would change the play (eg music, lighting, props) thanks!
I’d love to do more videos breaking down specific plays eventually, it’s a great suggestion thanks 👍 For the time being I’ll be working through the exam questions more broadly so the advice can be applied to any of the set texts, including I Love You Mum, I Promise I Won’t Die. But yes design elements is certainly on the list of future videos!
Hi there, I'm not sure how much you would know about the AQA exam board? If theres anything you know, I would appreciate any advice! The main problem is timings in the AQA Drama written exam.
Hi, I haven’t taught the AQA I’m afraid but just had a quick scan through one of the papers. Is it component 1? In terms of planning timings, I think the general rule of a mark a minute would still apply. From what I can see in the AQA paper, across the three sections you have a total of 80 marks and 1hour 45mins to complete? So on that principle, it would give 25mins of planning time give or take. Initially lots of the short mark questions seem to be cut from the same cloth (so to speak) so the advice I’ll give in these videos will still be relevant (particularly for knowledge on staging, acting skills, design elements etc) But obviously with a different exam board and marking structure, particularly for larger questions, I couldn’t advise on something I haven’t taught. Hopefully that’s helpful on some level!
Started in elementary school reading orsen wells war of the worlds and listening to it in class. Decades later i come across Welcome to Nightvale. From there alice isnt dead. Then We're Alive a story of survival. Now im fighting my unmedicated adhd to make my own.
The War of the World's radio drama caused panic more than once. It happened again in Chile in 1938 and Ecuador in 1949 resulting in 10 deaths. Behold the power of trusted media - and a clever author.
For me, I use the technique where after writing out a segment that I’m working on memorizing I then write on a separate piece of paper the first letter of each word in the sentence spaced out as if each letter were a word. The letter written in a big capital is my visual cue in case I forget a word. Example, “But I shall wear my heart upon my sleeve for daws to peck at. I am not what I am.” B I S W M H U M S F D T P A. I A N W I A.
Thank you for making this video! I'm currently forming a verbatim theater performance and it's difficult to edit the trancripts. Do you have a book using a creative license for verbatim theater? Any recommendations? Because I was wondering if it's possible without negatively affect those interviewees
Hey thanks for your comment! Yes it can be a tricky balance at times to gauge how much you can / should change transcripts and there can be different approaches depending on the person / project. I’d really recommend this book to start with! 👇👇👇 amzn.to/3Mtz7Dn It’s a collection of interviews and essays from several verbatim practitioners and discusses not only practical approaches, but ethical considerations too. It’s brilliant.
@@DramaDan Oh my gosh! Thank you for replying immediately :(( I'm quite scared of adding a few fictional narrative to secure and protect the identities of each interviewee, that's why I tried finding a study regarding creative license ;--;
