Local here. Ropewalk is like one of the town jokes. WE cannot afford to eat there. I remember when the land that Ropewalk is on was the Chincoteague Inn. It was a full on dive bar with a dining dock, but it was great for us locals .We need more local friendly places instead of these tourist magnets.
@@wanagi006 I can certainly understand that, a lot of the local charm from our first visits years ago (2008 or 2009) has slowly started to disappear which is a shame. The inner fat child in me still craves those crabcakes though!
@@PlumCrazyAdventures can't hate ya for the crabcake thing lol ......come on down again anytime...we stay open here well into the shoulder season (which is great for couples). But I hope you understand my view about places like Ropewalk.
@@PlumCrazyAdventures 🌺 🏖 🐴 😍 I just wish you would promote local owned eateries... like Bills., Don's, Capt. Zak's, A.J's , Steamers ,Hanoi Village,... that is a few locally owned choices to promote.
@@lizzybennett4436 I think Vision has one of the best crews at sea, but I certainly understand where she isn’t for everyone. Unfortunately with smaller ships it’s harder to have all the bells and whistles, and Baltimore port just isn’t big enough for larger ships right now.
I'll be hitting up the airport in September I have a month trip to the Philippines planned I will vlog the whole trip I am flying out United it's the only airline right now in the United States that does direct flights to the Philippines so I will be taking from Pittsburgh to San Francisco to Manila Philippines can't wait it's going to be the first time I've ever been on a plane I was thinking on taking just a beginner flight maybe to Myrtle Beach I guess that's still on the table creeping on the 10k mark it's time to switch up the channel to more travel content
@@steelcitytv that’s incredible! You’ll have an amazing time in the Philippines and you’ll have some incredible content. Don’t forget, Latrobe has reasonable flights with Spirit Airlines to Myrtle Beach and Orlando (there’s a third Florida destination I just don’t remember what it is off the top of my head) so you could fly in and out of there to get an idea of what flight is like and not have to worry about parking fees or the stress of long TSA lines or construction. I think you’ll do just fine regardless, we had a first time flyer travel last week and she’s already planning her next trip she loved it so much!
@@lightningthemonke I would love to do another airport video that highlights all the firsts that Pittsburgh has been a part of in aviation history, there’s a lot! Thanks for commenting!
@@gerilorensen5410 thanks for the comment, and also for the phonetic spelling! I knew I was messing it up, but believe me asking google was way worse 😂
@@thomaswelch-yx5tf thanks for commenting! Our airport is doing limited familiarization tours for individuals that may need assistance, a trial run, etc. in order to make their travel day smoother. They are never guaranteed but you can call the airport help desk and ask. Thanks for commenting!
I'm not a hater of Royal, I sail them all the time. I was completely shocked when I saw this ship in port. Had no idea it was the Vision or even a Royal ship. It looks terrible. Like a ship from the 70s. Not only outdated but the exterior looks like it was little to no upkeep. I've seen really poor ships from carnival and this was every bit as poor from the outside. I know Royal does a good job updating interiors, but still think the standard balcony is definitely sub par at best unfortunately. Just not worth sailing on with so many other Royal ships available.
@@kevinc6763 I agree she could use some updates but we didn’t think she looked that bad. Part of her charm is that she’s an older ship, and has been maintained very well by her loving staff. That being said, we completely get that she’s not for everyone, my youngest would be bored out of his mind in 5 minutes on this ship 😅
Thanks for a great tour of the ship. We’ve sailed on the Vision and prefer the smaller older ships. Our next sailing is Sept 5 to Canada New England. Can’t wait to get back on the Vision!!
@@LincolnAbeorhma I’ve yet to have a vacation where every single detail went off perfectly, and honestly I don’t know if I would ever want it to go that well! Glad you had a good time overall though!
@@cxg174 the local news has been making it even worse for TSA lines unfortunately. We were there Monday with a friend and the lines were LONG at noon. Be sure to get there three hours prior to give them time to get through and to give YOU time to figure out traffic patterns since everyone is having difficulty with the changes. Good luck!!!
I can remember my first flight when I was 16 years old back in 1974 at the old Pittsburgh International Airport which was state of the art when it was built back in 1952 and arrived to the much more modern Tampa International Airport completed in 1971 with the first shuttle trains taking you to the concourses, parking garages that made then Pittsburgh International Airport look somewhat primitive then.Back in 1974 my Eastern Airlines ticket was only $88 not taking inflation into account but I remember in my first flight that there was much more space between the seats and the flight included a full course meal plus this was during the Christmas season and it was freezing and in Pittsburgh but in the 70's in the Tampa area,a shocking but pleasurable contrast on my first flight then.
@@willbygosh4887 that is so cool! We took a tour and learned about how Pittsburgh really has been at the forefront of a lot of aviation innovation, including the first paved runway! Who knew? Thanks for sharing!!!
We sailed on the Vision in 2013 for a Baltic Sea Cruise. This was the year before it got dry-docked for refurbishing. We had a fantastic cruise then, we love small ships better....
@@PlumCrazyAdventures thanks so much for your reply. I’ve actually been wondering for so long. Thank you for the video too! I miss Chincoteague! This helps! ♥
@@sonofhibbs4425 awe thanks, we’re so glad this video helps, we’ve been missing Chincoteague ourselves. Hopefully we can get back for a week vacation next summer 😉
Thank you for taking the time to share such a nice vlog with us about the Vision of the Seas! You got it precisely correct, "small but mighty with and awesome crew which is the heart and soul of that ship!" Great walk thru and narration! Thank you for helping me be loyal to Royal! 😎😎😎
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for commenting! Don't worry, we have some more Royal content coming down the pipeline in the next few months, so make sure you're subscribed so you see it when we get it uploaded! ;)
@@OnboardwithJonathan you’re welcome! Happy to answer questions or help in any way we can. Highly recommend the Courtyard by Marriott McHenry Row for your pre cruise stay, ask for a port view so you can see her coming in in the early hours. We can also help you book your trip if you’re looking for a travel specialist. ☺️
@@sparksnmagic8695 you can drop your luggage off that you want sent to the room and only bring your carryon into customs with you. I believe you drop your bags off THEN park your vehicle, or if you are using a ride share service they’ll be able to help direct you.
Thank you! We need to go back and do more restaurant videos, not sure who is still on the island. Gonna have to twist our arms and do a beach vacation haha 😎
This is my favorite place to live. Gator's is a great place to watch rocket launches and landings. As well as the rockets returning to the Port on their droneship after landing in the Atlantic.
Thanks for commenting! We agree, Gator’s is a great place to grab some good food and geek out over all the amazing things you can see involving rockets and space exploration!
Went there 3 weeks ago and went to ropewalk too......personally i thought the crab cakes were meh......not just at rope walk but everywhere.....bill's prime too .....nothin to write home about .....the scallops as well were weird tasting .......i have better seafood on the Jersey shore .....different water maybe
Good to know! Good chance they’ve changed their recipe over the years, and the water is definitely different which makes local fare taste different than what you’re accustomed to. Hope you have a better experience next time!
One thing to note about cruise parking. They offer a packaged deal that includes that. For me, getting the AAA rate for queen room would've been $179. Getting the cruise package rate made that $204, not including taxes. Includes up to 14 days of parking. As a comparison, the terminal charges $15/day. We are going on a 9 day cruise coming up, so $135. Now, I will need to get transportation from hotel to port and back again as you note. I think its reasonable for me to drop my family off the morning of, then drive back and park at the hotel. Then I can Uber over to the port. If I were feeling squirrelly I could also walk it, but you noted it might be a bit dangerous with the streets the way they are. I think given all this, added on to the "cool" factor of watching the ship dock the morning of, makes this hotel an excellent choice. Your review was very detailed and answered questions I never knew I had. Thanks again.
Thank your for your comment! You are right about the park and stay package being a great deal, I misunderstood the hotel manager when he was explaining parking options or the park and stay rate would have been included in this video. Maybe I can pin a comment explaining this rate, as it really does make this hotel an attractive option for pre cruise stays!
Thanks for commenting! Check the McHenry Row website for an accurate list of restaurants and their times as the burger joint was closed the last time we were here. You can always pick up items at Harris Teeter for a meal in your room, and the bistro in the lobby offers limited hours with tasty bites also!
so , all the airlines fly out of one terminal? and if i want a rental car when i get there, there is walking involved. i can walk, but i got a bad hip operation and have problem a long way. seems like you get shuttled to rent a car. ariving 11pm, then catch shuttle to off site rental. hope this all goes down at 12 midnite
Thanks for commenting! So yes all flights go in and out of one terminal, and there is a bit of walking involved so if you’re concerned I would order a wheelchair to help you get from point A to point B. You do not get shuttled to a car, there are ready to go rentals parked in the closest parking structure, so once you’ve gone to the car rental agent they will direct you across the arrivals drive and which floor of the garage to pick up your vehicle. We’ve done midnight flights and it’s nice that there aren’t many people around so hopefully service will be quick for picking up your rental! Good luck!!!
@@PlumCrazyAdventures thank you for your quick respones. sorry to be so picky about the distance from car rental to where the ready to go rentals are. hope we are talking 600 feet. and then on return is when i drop it off site and catch a shuttle to the airport. am i right? thank you.
@@dumpstadee8371 I believe you drop off where you pick up, but if you’re concerned about the distance I would call the car rental agents directly to verify exact distances as we’ve never rented a car from here since it’s our home airport.
I wish I would’ve seen this a month or two ago. I stayed a a Holiday Inn at Coco Beach. Then had to get a Uber to bring us to the port. Much rather stay right by the port.
Watching from Nassau, Bahamas. Travelling to Orlando in October for my birthday. Your Town Place and Springhill videos were very informative for me, It helps me with which one I will be staying at. Question, are you aware of any handicap accessible rooms, i will need one for my mom!
Thank you for commenting, I’m glad the videos were helpful! They should have handicap accessible rooms available at both, be sure to select one when booking and if you don’t see any available contact the hotel directly to ensure you get the right room category. Happy to help answer any other questions you may have!
July 4th, A priority stop, 9/11 changed the world forever and Shanksville, PA. was the crash site of Flight 93. A tall cylindrical monument, similar to the frame of a silo, The Tower Of Voices, stands on the left side of the long entryway to the museum. 93 feet tall for Flight 93, the structure is lined with 40 different length wind chimes to represent the voices of 40 innocent victims who went wheels up for San Francisco and went down fighting in Shanksville…. In the Museum, a wall displays the flight path from takeoff to impact, where the last articles were recovered 35 feet deep. Another wall has three phones, you can listen to the final goodbyes of several passengers. Bring your tissues! I remember my uncle Gary suggesting, more than once, that I make the visit. A calm quiet, rests over the sacred grounds of the Memorial Walk and a large boulder covers the impact zone. A doe glances out from the edge of the woods, as two energetic fawn play in the green grass surrounding the Memorial Plaza. l gather knowledge from the park ranger, as a groundhog enjoys brunch behind the Memorial Wall. I mentioned that I was planning to visit the WTC and she encouraged me to visit the Pentagon Memorial, as well. Finished Independence Day with a visit to Penns Landing in Philadelphia for the annual firework display. With the Benjamin Franklin Bridge to the left and several Naval ships to the right, it was the perfect backdrop for the sights and sounds reflecting off the Delaware River. Collected some rocks. Afterwards, I found it hard to sleep in the middle of Philadelphia. The occasional sounds of firecrackers throughout the night sounded like gunshots. Anxieties about going to NYC in the morning didn’t help! Lots of unknowns had me considering skipping the Big Apple. But, put all fears and the lack of sleep aside and headed out early, I couldn’t hardly sleep anyway. By noon on July 5th, I left PA, drove through NJ, crossed the longest bridge in NYC, submersed The East River via The Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, reached the Endless Pool Memorials of 9/11 and awed over the 360 degree views of New Jersey and New York from the Observatory Floor of One World Trade Center. The inside walls of the elevator are floor to ceiling monitors, a video plays from the second the doors close until they open. Displaying the history of the city as it was developed over the last 200 years. The video shows the progression of construction materials and the height of the buildings with date stamps, as you ascend to the 102 floor. Photographed the concrete jungle from every angle with 30 minutes of video and photos. Took a photo of the Statue of Liberty and purchased some souvenirs, before dropping all the way to the basement in just 49 seconds. On the way down, the full wall monitors display a modern version of the cityscape. The endless pool memorials were created in the foot prints of the original twin towers and are covered with the names of 2,977 victims. The endless flowing water, drowns out the sounds of the city. This was part of a 24 day cruise around the country. On July 8, I made it to the Pentagon. July 12, Key West, July 17, the Four Corners, July 18 Grand Canyon, July 19 Hoover Dam, July 20 Golden Gate Bridge, July 22 Seattle Space Needle and July 23 Devil’s Tower. July 24, I made it home to Wisconsin. 48 states in 24 days, 13,482 miles Solo van adventure.
do they just tell you that they upgraded you im gonna be gold member and was wondering how it works probably gonna stay this exact same place and any advice since yall stayed here already
Thanks for commenting! We received an email from the hotel manager prior to our stay asking if we were celebrating anything (we were, our son’s birthday) and they were kind enough to upgrade us. I will say the first week of December is a slower travel season for tourists so the hotel wasn’t full which definitely played a part in our upgrade. When we checked in they told us we had been upgraded, though in our 15+ years of traveling together we have never been upgraded anywhere, so I’m not sure what the likelihood is of you getting upgraded for free. If you like the 2 bedroom suite I would just book it, as there aren’t many of them in the hotel and they will sell out if you are going during mid-to-peak travel season. As for advice, book the room you want, the staff is phenomenal so interact with them, and if you need help booking your trip reach out to us! We would be thrilled to help you out!
Thanks for commenting! I think I would go with Towneplace for my family bc I liked the space better and having a small kitchen, but they each have their merits!
Thank you, and thanks for commenting! If you are making a left out of this hotel it can be hard to get out of, we recommend if traffic is heavy to turn right and go to the light to turn around. Hope this helps!
Thanks for commenting! Sorry the algorithm never gave us a notification you had commented. I would say between taking the escalators and going through security, it will take 10-15 minutes to get to a park entrance, slightly longer for Universal Orlando Park bc it’s a tad farther than IOA.
@@melisaarthur81 of course! Always give yourself extra time to get where you need to go when using the busses, you never know when you may get stuck at the world’s longest red light or encounter a giant line at security.
Thanks for your comment! Good luck, traffic patterns have a changed a little since this video so just be aware of the signage and pack those patient pants! You’ll do great 😊
