(dormant) primary teacher, UoA graduate... I created this RU-vid channel in 2014 as a way to share my experiences and have a little fun. Since then, many of you will have followed me through university and into my early teaching career. I taught for 2 years in Glasgow and have now taken the decision to leave teaching behind in order to say yes to some more opportunities. Watch this space... Are you a company, brand or person looking to collaborate? For any business enquiries, drop me an email at holliemcrae123@gmail.com
No idea if you're still actively looking at the comment section after 4 year. But any idea how Aberdeen's computer science department is? Applied to their info tech MSc. Thanks in advance
Hey Hollie! This was extremely informative and interesting to watch. I'm thinking about doing a season this year but am finding it was difficult to find information or applying for the working Visa? Any advice? or possibly a video on how to apply?
Sounds like you were a good teacher. Try international teaching. I changed countries every four years and it keeps you learning constantly and you get to travel! Ticks all boxes
You Are Amazing! Huge Inspiration to others absoultely and good luck to all your future endeavours, it sounds your on an incredable journey and i wish you all the best xx
I believe I touch on this a bit later on but yes! I was able to save enough to travel Japan for a month afterwards and then another week or so in Vietnam without touching my savings
Interesting your teaching background Hollie like so many here I consider myself fortunate to meet both Colin and Jimmy way back in New Zealand when over there from Australia. But regarding teaching I have interacted with many teachers especially Math Teachers and pointed out how to engage with students by showing the students for instance where Math and Calculus fits into Motorsport for instance, Suddenly Sine and Cosine etc make much more sense when you show students how it fits into designing performance exhaust systems especially when it comes to two stroke expansion chambers then there is brake balance suspension etc. So teaching can become totally surreal for both the teachers and students when approached from a different perspective relating to applications in the real world that few realise makes it become not just a profession that not enough understand. THis bear in mind comes from a Technician/Fabricator who has worked at upper levels in Motocross, Road Racing and built many Rally Cars, Roll cages, Suspension and assorted power plant conversions and Yes back in the Day rare in Australia actually built MK 2 RS1800's with Cosworth BDG engines, Nissan Violets, owned an Ex Shea Mehta Nissan PB 210 that even NIssan themselves do not have a copy of in their Museum. So bring this style of thinking to those you know in the Education system as all can benefit from thinking outside the sqaure
You certainly are! There are many aspects of my teaching life that I do miss (as well as documenting it) but I am still more than confident that I made the right decision in leaving
@@HollieMcRae Thank you! I am so glad you are happy. You can always go back later but travelling while you are young is such an important thing to do. Love all of your content. Thanks for making video's for us!
Hope it is going well? I have just finished after 32 years and am going back to being a self employed carpenter. The first 15 were good but I wish I had left at least ten years ago. It has changed so much in recent years and the pressure is through the roof and if your life isn’t 100% teaching (to the exclusion of family and interests) you are not good enough!!! Hope it has been a good year. Happy Christmas!
It certainly is going well, I am still very happy with my decision to leave teaching for the time being. I totally agree with all that you said in your comment. I hope self-employed life is treating you well!
Hi Hollie, found this channel from your Dirtyfish vlog appearence. Your perspective is really unique, and your personality is soo bright, I hope you will find your path in this journey. Very excited to see new content coming on your new pages and this channel!
Jusy found your channel from dirt fish vlog behind the scenes. Loved it! Lovely woman, down to earth, good luck with your next ideas and plans. Looking forward to it! Grew up watching your dad Colin , my idol, icon rallying on TV and playing the playstation games. Incredible legend and great to see you're carrying on his and your families legacy of rally and Motorsport in your own style. Well done Holls. 😊
How did you find the job and was it easy? Would you say its easy for brits to find work? And lastly is there any jobs you recommend trying to get to maximise the amount of time skiing? Thanks!
Japanese ski resorts are crying out for staff and that only increases as they get more popular. I'd say that you wouldn't struggle at all to get a job - particularly in hospitality as an english speaker. A lot of jobs are advertised of Facebook groups so I'd definitely start your search there!
Hi Hollie! I wondered... did you put any information about your employer / contract of the job you were to take on travelling to Japan? As I've red in a few places on the internet, that the purpose of the "working holiday" visa in Japan is with a big focus on "HOLIDAY" and that it is safer to NOT include any of your employers details and pretend as if you don't have any type of work lined up just yet?
@@megaporch583Hey, I’ve done a lot of digging into this and it’s just like I say.. you have more chance of being accepted into the program if you’re NOT stating that you already have a job lined up. What I did is I simply mentioned about plans and opportunities I will take on to do with work around Japan to support myself financially… this should be more than enough. Japanese embassy wants to see you go on holiday - primarily, job is just an incidental thing and possibility.
My employers in the ski resort helped me to complete my visa documentation so I wouldn't worry about mentioning specific employment that you have lined up. Just be sure that you will not be 'working' more that you are 'holidaying' (read: earning more than you're spending) while you are in Japan. Many people I know didn't mention specific employment as they thought it might mean their visa getting processed faster but there is no way of verifying this.
You and your Japan Diary videos have been so helpful and fun to watch! I honestly felt as though i was also on the trip, having fun, partying, seeing new places etc. I almost felt sad the videos had to end since it looked like such a good time. I'm also surprised you had just met those colleagues! There were such good vibes between you all. This honestly gives me so much motivation to keep going and achieve my dream of going to Japan and possibly living there someday.
Awww what a lovely comment, thank you so much! I had great fun on my season and love being able to look back at them in these videos... I just wish I'd filmed more. Japan was utterly amazing, I hope you get there soon an it lives up to your expectation and more!
Yes I agree travelling Better with tour guide right so not missed amazing spot. I like to see your menu , thge vegs look delicious. Cute dog 😊. Enjoy your traveling and honeymoon. So tge road just same in Indonesia they like snake road instead of straight road 😂 . Fun singing though.
My wife is from Japan. I am a Japanese American from Hawaii and so English is my native language. My wife can understand American English, but she has trouble understanding other English speakers -- British, Scottish, Filipino, Indian, etc. Funny. I can understand everything except perhaps Scouse.
Hi Holie, thoroughly enjoyed this vlog, as i always do, but the tour of japan was excellent, would love to go but couldn't leave my dog lol, he's a 7 year old golden Retriever called Ben and he enjoys your vlogs too 😅🐾 Best of luck with your new venture, i'm sure you will smash it 🏴😍
Hey, Hollie! I finally had a chance to sit down and watch this video after coming home from vacation. Thanks for the info on what's going on in your life. For those of us coming from the rally world, it's fantastic to hear that you'll be focusing your considerable talents there for a while! I look forward to watching your media from Rally Legend... and wishing that it wasn't so far from Seattle to San Marino! And about your lack of training for co-driving, I'm pretty sure Josie would be able to point you to some teachers... (Rhi, perhaps?) 😁 Be well, my friend!
Hi, i am going out to do a ski season myself in Hokkaido this November and am struggling to find any infomation about setting up a bank account and mobile number? could you offer any advice or point me in the right direction? you look like you had the best time!
I'm so sorry, I've only just noticed your comment... I had a bank account set up through the hotel that I worked at while I was out there so they did pretty much everything on out behalf. And rather than getting a Japanese sim card (which was turning out to be a huge faff) I ended up just getting and eSIM instead which was SO quick and simple. It meant that I couldn't use my traditional phone number but have access through whatsapp calls etc on data. I'd defo look into this option if you have a compatible phone!
The Japan Embassy's site confirms that Japan is the worst English speaking country in Asia. See the positive aspect to this. When you visit the Embassy, resist the temptation to correct the English on the application form. Even the UK passport application form has errors. Jack the Japan Alps Brit, forty years and counting
