I have made both buttonholes and pocket versions for family weddings and much prefer the easy construction of pocket squares. However, my experience proved the old adage that nothing emerges unscathed after the first hug. 😢 . Thanks for the tutorial, John!
Here in Connecticut, I've never seen a floral pocket square at any of the weddings I've attended or created myself. I feel it's a better idea than the buttonhole because there are no pins and they won't fall off the jacket. Maybe a small bit of double sided tape in the back of the pocket square will also secure the pocket square.

The traditional boutonniers have always been tricky for me to experiment with. Everything I learn is self-taught, but with your idea, I definitely see how this is more appealing for not only the look of the design but also for the ease of process for the designer. Last summer in Australia for my wedding work I did a combination of these and buttonholes. Often jackets are not worn here by the bridal party because of the weather, so boutonnieres on vests and braces are good with the pocket squares for significant guests (grandparents, godparents etc) both men and women. Great video instruction as always 💐
@@talkinginpublic that is a good point - not only do men like to avoid a flower but also a jacket if they can - especially if the weather is hot! A combination for people is good - so this could be a better version for significant guests 😊

Hello, John! Very interesting. I have to say I've never come across a floral pocket square. In fact, many of the boutonnieres or buttonholes here are often comprised of more than one bloom today. I'll have to look into this. Thanks for the interesting video, Friend. Have a wonderful week!

As an American I’ve never done this before! Still doing traditional boutonnières and the like on the lapel, definitely interested in trying this method though!
I have always called these purple flowers "Rose of Sharon"--I didn't realize they were the same plant. In July I saw big red hibiscus flowers in Ghana. It never occurred to me before! I really love the sculpture you've made with the stems. So funky! Funky is the word for this arrangement--so modern and fresh looking. I also love the clay pot. It is definitely a work of art--typical of you John!
@@lynnemcnab3093 Thank you Lynne! I think Rose of Sharon has yellow flowers - then berries - essentially that’s hypericum. But maybe the same family? Yes, this frame is quite funky! Thank you 🤩
@FlowerJoos I like the way you bent the stems to form a very contemporary frame for the arrangement. In Canada, Rose of Sharon comes in a variety of colours including white, pink and purple. The flowers look like they could be R of S. They are also in the hibiscus family. After flowering, they do produce a seed head cluster, slightly oval shaped, and turns brown when dry. I love the beautiful simplicity of the floral arrangement.
Not in one hundred years would I have thought to use hibiscus (we call that particular shrub Rose of Sharon) in an arrangement. But it really works well for the purpose you have demonstrated, John. Thank you! And the color conrasts wonderfully with the greens you have used in this design. Papyrus is so multifunctional, too! Best to you, as always.
@@stepps511 thank you! It’s a shame the flowers don’t last really, but I will enjoy this design for a couple of days, then I can swap out the flowers for fresh ones! I have popped the tops of the papyrus into water, so they will root ! Waste not want not! Hope you are having a great week. 🌻🌻🌻
