My name is Amista, and I'm a modern quilter and bag maker who loves designing patterns and filming videos. I’ve been providing daily content on Instagram for several years and work with several major brands in the industry. My most popular content is zipper pouches and bags, but I also love quilting.
Thanks, Amista! I thought I'd have to take my machine for servicing, but your video showed me just what I needed to do: Reinsert the bobbin so it doesn't wobble, clean her & also when & where to oil her! She & I are both smiling again. All ready for Quilt Club tomorrow! 😄
I put stabilizers in my bag, but when I sew my bag slips and I struggle to keep it straight. I always use the 1/4” foot but I’m using Lori holt zips and I find the 1/4 foot makes my bag joined to zip too big of a gap between teeth and fabric. I’m finding zippers more and more difficult to do. I even hand basted. I tried the glue method. The 1/4 tape for fabrics and I can’t be successful. Although your video is great and helpful, m still having the slipping around and struggling sewing zips. Please help. Thank you
Thanks, your tips were great. My problem is when I turn the pouch right-side out the corners at the zipper tuck down into the pouch and they aren't really a corner. They turn out rounded.
Good advice about the air, but bad advice regarding service. These machines need it or they will fail many years prematurely and start generating error msgs.
If your Janome dealer told you that this machine doesn't need oil they were telling you that they know NOTHING about sewing machines. There are a couple of dozen places that should be oiled. Basically, anywhere where metal moves on or in metal except for the thread path. This issue especially true at the main upper and lower horizontal shaft bushings. Seriously, that person should not be trusted with your machine. You sew every day? Your machine desperately needed service, which requires a complete disassembly of the outer housing shields.
Blowing air into the machine does a lot more than just push debris around. It forces debris in places that only have room for oil and worse, gets both debris and oil on your many circuit boards and the motor.
My first time watching your video, I love how you explain everything so clearly and slow enough I don't have to keep backing up to listen again. Thank you
My dc2030 came to me used. No mention in instruction book of the wick in the bobbin case so i picked it out thinking it was ancient lint. How can i replace it?
Just LOVE using the glue pen to place my zippers before sewing! This tip has made my work so much better and definitely more professional looking. Yes - the pen and its refills are just one more thing to buy but they are so well worth it and I am hooked. I also find using a glue pen to be time saving. Thanks so much for sharing.
So homey 😊 i love the realness of this sewing room. It looks like you were there always and of course the room is going to get "messy". The messiness is what motivates me to sew more!
Thank you so much! I’m getting much neater zippers using the 1/4” foot. There’s definitely better control than with my zipper foot. I’m a bit late here…in case you see this, what thread are you using? The top stitching is beautiful.
I'm getting my Janome 3160QDC TODAY and i watched your totorial in preperation. But can you please, please tell me where you got the screw b doo? Ive googled it with different spellings and can't find it. Not even on Amazon. If Amazon doesnt have it is it real?
I just started using a zipper foot for some items but mostly use the regular foot. I have not used glue at all but think I will going forward. Nice tips you shared, there is always something new out there to learn. I have not done the one sided zipper, I just cut my zippers so far. Also I find using interface on fabric and liners makes it stand better also.
Love these tips! Just what I needed to know! Thank you! I'd been using clips and a 1/4" foot (w/out the guide) and it never occurred to me to try this! I had used Elmer's glue in some instances, but it's messy and requires drying time...THIS will be so much easier! Thank you!
Oh, thank you!!! My machine is old and I need to open the front of me machine and ues two different tools to move my needle so it is so much of a hassle! This way is great!
Good video, I enjoyed watching it. I make lots of zipper bags and I use all of your tips but the glue. Seeing your video and another person using the glue, I will try it. Thanks for posting.
Could you do a tutorial on stitching the sides together. I have problems making it look nice at the top where the zipper folds down. Thank you for this great tutorial. I’m going to try this.
Great video. Question: For tip #1, regarding using the interfacing, how did you attach the interface to your fabric? It looks like it was glued, or was it sewn on?
It’s ironed on. When you buy it, it’ll show directions on the backing (usually). RU-vid is soooo helpful too, I’m sure there’s videos here showing exactly how to use it. 💁🏻♀️
