Thanks, Amista! I thought I'd have to take my machine for servicing, but your video showed me just what I needed to do: Reinsert the bobbin so it doesn't wobble, clean her & also when & where to oil her! She & I are both smiling again. All ready for Quilt Club tomorrow! 😄

My husband does machine repair and maintenance and this video is AWESOME! He would be so supportive of this! Everything you are saying is SPOT ON! And it does make a HUGE difference on the quality of your stitches to maintain your machine. Also, the grease and oil deep inside the machine should be cleaned out and replaced about once every 18 months or so. That oil and grease begins to break down, even with the excellent care she is describing in this wonderful video! I so hope lots and lots of people realize that what you're teaching here applies to all sewing machines. THANK YOU!

No, he wouldn't. She literally stated that the machine only needs oil at the bobbin case, which is wildly inaccurate. And the machine can't even be cleaned properly without being stripped down.

I just purchased this machine (QOV model) and the salesperson said I don't need to oil it. However, knowing what I know about a similar machine (Janome Gem) which I also have and having had a Viking#1 (that finally died), I know about the drop of oil in the bobbin area. While cleaning my various machine bobbin areas, I brush the lint up into balls, but I also put a drop of machine oil on the end of a cotton swab to help grab it from the machine. Very carefully, I also use long, pointed, serger tweezers to grab some pieces of lint that stubbornly won't come to the surface, but be careful not to go too deep into the machine or touch any of the metal parts down below. Cleaning your machine, and oiling when necessary, is one of the very best things to do so it will serve you for a long time.

Awesome video. Ordered me the cleaning kit and the Screw drivers they come in handy for hard to get into areas but I have a question. How do you take the cover off the thread up take? I’ve removed the screws but it’s still attached somewhere would like to take it off so I can clean the inside of dust.

Thanks for this video! Do you have one to show how to take off the side piece that has the Janome name on it (where the thread take up lever is)? Mine is starting to squeak and I’m thinking I might have lint buildup in there too

So if i hear a clunk when i'm sewing, i'm probably needing a deep cleaning of my machine. I too didn't realize i need to regularly clean it until now. Thanks for the video.

Even though the bobbin thread was pulled to the right, when the bobbin was dropped in, the way it was flipped over to go in the case made the thread on the left, which is correct after all.

My dc2030 came to me used. No mention in instruction book of the wick in the bobbin case so i picked it out thinking it was ancient lint. How can i replace it?
@Carlton_Wilson

Blowing air into the machine does a lot more than just push debris around. It forces debris in places that only have room for oil and worse, gets both debris and oil on your many circuit boards and the motor.

I love the way it cuts your threads, BUT, what happens the next time you sew? Does the cut off threads get tangled below into a bird's nest when you insert the next fabric.......or what prevents this please ?

How about vacuuming it out instead of pushing the lint down into the machine?
@TheEvie202
@TheEvie202 7 месяцев назад
I vacuum as well as dust the way she shows us. You can use the vacuum’s crevice tool some blue painters tape , and a straw to allow the vacuum to get into crevices. Vacuum first , then, oil. Oil makes dust adhere and harder to remove.

Since this bobbin case is not metal, can't it get burrs on it that cannot be sanded off ??
@TheEvie202
@TheEvie202 7 месяцев назад
Not really.What messes up a bobbin case is breaking needles often . My mother taught me sew carefully ( slow and steady , I had a lead foot as a teen) and don’t break needles ! In 50 years I’ve broken 2 needles.

It looks like the bobbin thread was loaded to turn in the wrong, counterclockwise direction at the end. There is an arrow in the bobbin case that shows it should turn in clockwise direction.
@IQuiltYouNot
@IQuiltYouNot 4 года назад
My Janome dealer told me that your bobbin and attached thread should form the letter "P" for "perfect" when you're putting it into the bobbin case.
@rexxors
@rexxors 4 года назад
@@IQuiltYouNot The bobbin needs to turn in the direction of the arrow indicated on the bobbin case. My arrow indicates clockwise direction so the bobbin should look like a 9
@annab8401

I have this exact machine and the manual says to always load bobbin thread in counter-clockwise position.
@Carlton_Wilson
@Carlton_Wilson 3 месяца назад
If your Janome dealer told you that this machine doesn't need oil they were telling you that they know NOTHING about sewing machines. There are a couple of dozen places that should be oiled. Basically, anywhere where metal moves on or in metal except for the thread path. This issue especially true at the main upper and lower horizontal shaft bushings. Seriously, that person should not be trusted with your machine. You sew every day? Your machine desperately needed service, which requires a complete disassembly of the outer housing shields.
@Carlton_Wilson
@Carlton_Wilson 3 месяца назад
Good advice about the air, but bad advice regarding service. These machines need it or they will fail many years prematurely and start generating error msgs.
@amyabarca4440

1. Your video title should be more specific. This only addresses bobbin cleaning, not the upper part of the machine. 2. I've tried these oil points before with the bobbin and not only did applying oil not make a difference in friction squeaks, Janome Customer Service does not recommend this.
