I had a terrible ground loop within my pedal board and mixer in my home studio ! Just couldn't get rid of it so I had to use a gate but it was not a great idea ! Then I remember a friend had told me ages ago to cut the earth at one end of the audio cable so there was only the signal without the ground connected at one end of the cables ! The hum completely vanished ! Cheapest and easiest method by far ! PS I didnt cut the mains ground cable ! I did it on the audio cables input ! The output audio is still grounded ! DS

I have a Fusion T and the frets on mine are great not scratchy at all. If mine was as bad as yours I would have returned it to Thomann but I can see how that could be a problem for you guys on the other side of the pond. I'm very happy with it 😊
@manak1n
@manak1n 5 дней назад
Yeah, shipping for a return would really hurt the value proposition since I'm in the USA. If the frets aren't normally scratchy, it's much easier to recommend!

Yeah in retrospect this video was more of a vlog than a useful comparison. 😅 I have an apples-to-apples comparison between the squier, Yosemite, and '63 pickups recorded but I haven't had time to edit it. Same strings, same bass.

Very good review. I am not opposed to changing pickups to achieve a different sound. The Sire does sound brighter than the other pickup demos you provided. Instead of brighter, would you call it hotter or higher output? Thanks
@manak1n

They're definitely not high output pickups; they're average for a humbucker.

I'll have to try that, I've been using the MusicNomad kit and it doesn't seem to cut it for stainless steel frets. Works well for regular frets though!

@daremo2010
@daremo2010 2 месяца назад
Exactly the comparison I had in my head this morning. Thanks! Also I am considering at the Fender Vintera Tele Deluxe…much costlier. I will say I didn’t care for the brightness of the Sire (I heard on another YT video) - I play some soul/R&B and think I would have the tone rolled down all the time. But I think that is easier than trying to get a brighter sound out of inherently muddy pickups. Anyway, thanks again.
@manak1n
@manak1n 2 месяца назад
Swapping pickups isn't too difficult so I tend to buy a guitar for the things I can't easily change (body/neck shape, fret types, etc). In this case, though, the Sire's pickups are much brighter than most humbuckers I've used, so I can see why it could be a dealbreaker for people less used to working with guitar electronics. But yes; when it comes to tone, subtracting what you don't want is much easier than trying to add back what doesn't exist! In the hand the Sire feels like a much better guitar than any of my Fenders. Fender makes good guitars, but the $1000 models feel like the $500 models from other brands. The Road Worn Fenders are the only ones that I'd take over a Sire, but that's comparing apples to oranges. At the end of the day, the best purchase is the one that makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside. If you buy a Sire thinking "I really wish I had a Fender..." you're better off just buying a Fender even if it doesn't check all the boxes. Also, remember that you can find used Fenders in like-new condition for basically half price! In the USA, I can usually can find exactly the model I want for way cheaper with 1-2 months of waiting. Keep an eye on Guitar Center's used inventory!!! Might make the decision a little easier. ;)

@manak1n

Which is pretty hilarious with how expensive Gibsons are. Also, the nut is often very poorly cut on Fender guitars. These HBs had perfectly serviceable nuts! There's still brands out there with immaculate QC though (PRS, for one).

Had an issue with the GPU coils being audible in my studio monitors, noticeable with screendraws when moving the mouse, note I do use balanced cables and connection plus that all power cables come from a distributer with isolation, filters and surge protection. Connecting a Behringer HD400 between my audio interface and the studio monitors solved that issue. There are probably better units available, but the HD400 worked fine for quite some years now. The issue in my case doesn’t come from power ground loop, it comes from the internal design of the computer components, which is weird since everything in my PC is high quality parts, so I bet it’s a flaw on Nvidia’s design.

I put a high mass bridge on mine. Big improvement. I don't think the new pickups would overcome the packing crate quaity wood they put in the body.

Find one with a neck you like and hit it with some choice upgrades, and whatever wood they used will be at best a marginal factor...at least we're not talking about plywood bodies like back when I started out lol

Using a Quad Capture here. on it's own, the laptop and quad capture make no noise. When I take the unbalanced stereo line from the quad cap to the line in on my desktop, all hell breaks loose and the hum is about -45db. I'm going to try moving the plugs for the laptop and desktop to the same power outlet on the wall to see if that helps. But there is definitely mouse squeal, gphx squeal and earth hum as soon as these two 3 pin powered devices are connected together via 3.5mm jack! It has to be a ground loop, there's no noise from either device on the audio outputs when they are not connected. Great video thanks

I love Yosemite p/u's, I have them in both my Tele and Stratocaster, but here I don't think that they make enough difference to justify the expense. When I'm trying out "new" or different stuff on a guitar or bass, I do what you did but in a slightly different order. First and always I do a set up and action adjustment, or as is often the case, a RE-set up and bring the action to factory specs. This includes fret work if it causes any buzz or dead spots. Second the strings. I like flats on a bass and a Jazz guitar and a high quality new set with the gauge of your choice will almost always improve sound and feel. Usually that is enough, but I will replace pots if I don't feel (especially on a bass) that I am getting the max amount of good adjustments on tone. The last thing is p/u's and normally you don't have to go this far and spend $150 - 400 on a new set. This isn't the dark ages of improperly wound pups with cheap wire any more. Most that come with your bass will fit the need and give great sound, especially if from a big name manufacturer like Fender or other well known brand. Believe me that they have learned over the years that it is better to spend an extra $2-3 bucks on the pick ups they ship, rather than having to deal with costly product returns.

I'm experiencing a buzz (higher in pitch than I'd expect) when I connect both my PC and my digital piano to the same pair of speakers while the piano is connected to that PC through USB. My building doesn't have grounding, but I guess that means nothing when I already have a literal USB loop. Will the USB isolator get rid of the buzz in my case?

Never discount cheap guitars. Some have better tone and resonance than thier more expensive counterparts. Not all guitars are equal out of the box. 15 years ago i chose an Epi Les Paul over 5 Gibsons and 4 Epis. The lamination and finish has a resonance, tone and sustain that the Gibsons or other Epis could not compare with. The bridge pickup sounded really hot too. 700 dollars compared to 3000 plus. But 700 dollars compared to what i was willing to spend? So never ever focus on the name on the head. You may miss out primping a high dollar instrument. And honestly all musicians shoult be able to tell and make a shovel with strings hooked to an amp sound good.
@manak1n
@manak1n 8 месяцев назад
Absolutely right! I ended up swapping out the Yosemite pickups for the stock Jazz pickup and a Fender Pure Vintage 63 for the p-bass pickup and now it absolutely sings. Don't think you could convince me to get a different bass!

Hi. Can you help..... I have a new laptop and have connected it to my audio interface and have been recording some vocals. I am getting a clicking sound at different points every single time i try to record. Is this a ground looping problem also?
@PhillipJohnsonphiljo
@PhillipJohnsonphiljo 5 месяцев назад
usually ground loops occur when two separate powered devices are plugged in and connected via the audio signal path. Is your laptop the only mains powered device in your setup, or is there something else like a second monitor (screen) or another computer that is involved in the signal chain?
@ZioFrankekko
@ZioFrankekko 8 месяцев назад
a ggod way to find out if it is a ground loop or not is to connect the audio interface to a battery powered laptop: if the hum continues then it is not a ground loop

Hi! what can you classify as noise? Is it something loud enough audible to audience or even tiny noise that only audio man can hear from HP while monitoring? My laptop is plugged in audio interface and I can hear a faint white noise when I come really close to my PA, is that bad?
@PhillipJohnsonphiljo
@PhillipJohnsonphiljo 5 месяцев назад
That might just be stereo hiss. Try headphones into the power amp, or from the previous signal stage (mixing desk? audio card?) to see if you are hearing the same white noise in an enclosed audio environment (confirms if it is in the signal, or just amplifier or speaker hiss)

Since 2018 i searched all over RU-vid a video that digs in the best Ground loop isolators for studio or for a 100% clean audio home receivers or amps and you've done a really great job. Your record via loop back it's the best proof, as since 2018 i wanted an isolator that doesn't mess with audio quality. mPOW Isolator is really filthy and mediocre at best scenario in my in-ears i hear a BIG distortion, Pyle is aceptable, not great but aceptable, the distortion is audible but minuscule.
