Hi Gary, I am dealing with RO systems for the first time and followed your guidance. However, I am stuck in this process as water is not coming out of pure water outlet of a membrane canister. It flows through drain line though and if I block that water just doesn't go anywhere. Any tips on how to resolve this? Thank you!

My water softener is very old and I never had it checked for maintenance but I always add salt. It's been sitting with water that's half way full. It's a bit above the salt level. I'm a single mom and don't have the money to get this repaired. What should I do? Do I press regenerate button to see if the water goes down and make sure it's still working? Because the plumber that installed it ten yrs or more ago set the timer for 3am. I haven't heard it go on for few days. I usually never let it run out of salt. I wish u could make a free house all to check it Help! I don't know what to do

Hi Gary - great video! I have a system with a remineralizer that was contaminated and accumulated quite a bit of bacteria (despite being directly downstream from a UV light), leading to a strong fishy odour in my system. I've tried flushing it several times now with bleach, but the smell returns. I have noticed the smell of bleach at faucet when I am flushing it out, but is it possible that it is draining out the waste line during the sanitation process?

First, I wanna thank you on behalf on anyone coming across this video for your assistance with anyone's issues. Troubleshooting and assistance for RO systems seems to be lacking across the internet, so it's wonderful for you to provide what assistance you can. Perhaps I might pick at your brain, then? I'm struggling with a system that is refusing to fill its tank. I've already confirmed my house water pressure is at 60 PSI, and have noticed that water IS making it to all three stages. Water is also making it to the tank hose, and my tank is, when empty, sitting at a bladder pressure of 7 PSI. This is actually my second tank, since I thought it was a problem with the first. My sink's pressure is fine, as well. I'm at a complete loss, and worry I might have to get a brand new system. Even then, I'm not sure a new system will fix my issue.

Hi Gary. I have a softner with a clack valve, after noticing too much water in the brine tank I cleaned the brine tank first, still too much water in it after a day or so. So I replaced the piston, seal pack and cleaned the injector. Checked everything for obstruction including drain pipe and fill pipe. Went through regeneration and as I was skipping cycles I noticed that during the brine cycle it's actually sending water instead of emptying tank. Then more water during fill cycle. Is the valve defective,?

I’m wondering if I’m putting my health at risk by refilling plastic Smart water bottles with drinking water that I buy by the gallon and lemon juice. I reuse the smart water sports cat bottles because they are easy to drink out of and it keeps me accountable for how much water I’m drinking a day. I keep one next to my bed, and like I said it has lemon water in it. I noticed something was floating in it and I think it was mold. I don’t know if that acid from the lemon is eating the plastic away and I’m drinking toxins . I’ve heard it’s bad to reuse plastic water bottles and that’s what I’ve been doing for decades.

Something is extremely wrong here. I don't know whether this place is being deceptive, or if the water being softened is already extremely soft, or what exactly, but the idea that a normally functioning softener is only adding a fraction of a SINGLE MILLIGRAM of sodium per liter to treated water is complete nonsense. A Canadian site lists the hardness of water where he is in Midland Ontario Canada as being EXTREMELY hard at over 250mg/L, and most sites which note these things indicate that at that level a functioning water softener will be adding OVER 200mg/L of sodium to softened tap water, *a thousand times more* than the 0.2mg/L stated here. If you understand how a softener actually works, this makes sense, the magnesium and calcium in the water has to go somewhere, and where it goes is onto the resin beads in the softener, which release exactly two sodium ions into the water for every Mg or Ca ion they trap. There's a lot of hokum and truth bending in the water treatment world. Caveat emptor....
@GarytheWaterGuy
@GarytheWaterGuy 6 дней назад
The lab tests speak for themselves. Where did you find that a water softener should be adding 200mg/l of sodium once the water is softened. That’s preposterous.
@Muonium1
@Muonium1 6 дней назад
@@GarytheWaterGuy The figures are widely available, just search for "how much sodium does a water softener add" and look at images for charts etc. showing the various values. Most are in avioirdupois and imperial units, but they're easily converted. The sodium adsorbed on the surface of the resin beads in the system has to go SOMEwhere, it doesn't just disappear into an alternate universe when the resin beads adsorb Mg and Ca 'hardness' ions, they released into the tap water, and two ions of sodium have to be released per Ca or Mg ion because sodium only has a charge of +1 and Mg and Ca have a charge of +2. There's a reason it's recommended not to use softened water to water plants and refill freshwater aquariums in places where the tap water is hard. There is simply no way that in a hard tap water area like Midland the sodium level of softened water is only going up by a fraction of a PPM, it's physically impossible if the softener is doing anything at all.
@GarytheWaterGuy
@GarytheWaterGuy День назад
If you test the TDS of the water before and after the water softener the PPM is only very slightly higher, which again confirms the negligible sodium content being added to the water.
@electricurinal

It really isn’t meant to be used as a means of mixing treated with untreated water. If that is what you want to accomplish you are better off building a 3 way bypass around the softener with ball valves and leave the bypass slightly open

So I have no idea what brand my softener is, as it's just labeled "Water Depot refineosoft." That said, the control panel is a bit different, but everything else seems identical. I followed the video along, shut off the bypass, started the regen, got to pulling out the meter/impeller, and um yep, we had water gushing everywhere. From the quick glance I got before becoming the little boy with his finger in the dyke, the impeller looked like it was crusted with salt crystals. Water Depot uses the same Clack Valve as our HUM brand just a different faceplate. I think you forgot to shut off the water supply going to the softener. Also, if your drain line goes up some of the water will drain back down when you open it up but it will stop fairly soon. Give it another try.
