I've been living in Utah (Payson, Provo and Lehi) for about 2 yrs and while I have to say working here is great as the economy is very strong, I have noticed some things about the Mormon culture. First off, very respectful courteous and helpful in general. They raise their children the same and it shows in the communities. Unless you go to downtown SLC you wont see much graffiti or crime for that matter, at least in the places I've lived. Thats alot to like. It has to be the absolute safest place I've ever lived. I've lived all over the U.S - born in Boston, moved to L.A as a teen, lived in Seattle , lake Tahoe, as well as the Flathead Indian Reservation in Montana for a few years. My point is I have some experience in other places. The one thing I seem to find and it might be I havent yet lived here long enough - is the Mormons have a line for how much courtesy and sincerity they seem to express to 'non Mormons' and after that you're pretty much on your own lol. As a private teacher (hence my somewhat anonymous profile here) I come across all kinds of people and several of my younger students (17-20yrs) who grew up here tell me as kids they were not allowed to play with Mormon kids outside of school as requested by Mormon parents. They were of different religions. I can respect that as its a matter of faith and wanting your kids to assimilate into the Mormon culture seamlessly makes sense.It seems the closer you are to Provo the more apparent this is, where as in DT SLC it seems more like any major city - and you do see the crime and homelessness as a result. but for people moving here that might want to know, the closer to Provo the more 'being Mormon' - or not - is 'something.' weighed in strongly by Mormons... at least thats been my experience
There is no pro of living along Utah back range or Denver Front range. Except you are five hours from Teton. Moab. Zion. But hey Utah is awesome. I liked Saint George mucho better. Dad lived in Moab 13 years. It's like Atlanta. SLC if you need a job. That's where you go.
You failed to mention california has income tax brackets and that 13.3% is only for people who earn over 1 million a year very misleading to not address that.
People need to stop moving here, it has DESTROYED the economy and culture..horrible crowds everywhere and costs way above reasonable rates. Its a shitshow. The picture of the home you showed for 500k is such a lie, there arent houses that look like that for the price.

Nope! I’m just a normal Utah resident that’s helping people move to Utah (realtor) if they so decide. I’m non Mormon, my husband is non Mormon and we would have to disagree with your opinion. Thanks for the input though! I’m sure everyone’s experience is a little different.

I raised 2 daughters in Utah. The LDS church does definitely (strongly) affect social interactions among non-LDS school age children. Those who dispute...are LDS reciting "the mantra". As adults, both daughters moved out of state.
Exactly, Mormons are NOT welcoming, especially to children, especially if you not agree with their regressive so-called values. Jesus's command to "Love others as you love yourself" is absolutely ignored. Like most conservative Christians, they cherry-pick to support their ideology, distorting their religion.

Ten years ago a nuclear power plant should have been built by green river near the uranium deposits it would have powered several states and would have kept the rivers higher flowing to the Hoover .. Instead they veto it and move the prison by the airport so draper and Thanksgiving point are more normalized .. Now the prison is sinking ... I visited friends in SLC in 2001 and went to some gay establishments that did not serve alcohol and therefore had people who were 18 to 21 there, and everyone I met there told me that as soon as they were of age or could afford to were going to leave Utah - most were planning to move to California. Utah is NOT a place to live if you are gay, unless you like feeling oppressed.
Absolutely. I'm not gay but I support the gay community. Natives, however, our very backwards, fully supporting the culture war. They encourage and reinforce their children's trespassing and theft of pride flags, for example, It's completely screwed up.
Huge point: the Church runs the politics in Utah. The reason the personal taxes are so high is that the LDS politicians know that their members, with all of the kids (deductions), will be paying less taxes regardless of how high they jack them up. It is a very cynical ploy and it really punishes single people. I lived in the Marmalade District for years and loved the skiing and the summer weather but I just couldn't get beyond a religion literally running the state and local governments. Reminds me of the Taliban in a lot of ways. If the Mormon leadership could get away with it they'd crack down even more - only our US Constitution prevents the LDS from stoning women for showing their ankles.

What's been done to the Wasatch in the name of growth and economic development is tragic. They turned the air into a toilet and traffic into a nightmare so a few people could get even richer. Working families have been crucified by housing costs.
Its basically a giant suburb with not enough businesses to supply the growth ,..so the two lane roads are constantly over packed everything has double to tripled in price , the inversions continue to get worse and worse as the population increases .. It's basically suburbs walmart and mormon churches .. If you're looking for the lobby to hell you may have found it .. Its basically just suvs crowding once peaceful quiet streets during bankers hours .. There's nothing really to do,.. think salt lake is a boring ass city try.. tooele unless you're into alcoholism meth heroine cocaine or mormonism, .. But sure move here make the traffic worse and add to the drought issues ..the cost of living here has double almost tripled so theres that too most of the house have fractured foundations from the earth quake originals have been here long enough most of the utilities need replaced the roofs are constantly ripped off from the wind and most of stansbury is on well pond so half of it will eventually probably sink the small town feel ended along long time ago its just becoming a ghetto crowded extension of West valley crappy osb homes placed way too close together or way overpriced apartments.
