Saw them in concert way back in '69 before Duane and Barry Oakley died. They came on right after B. B. King. They started around midnight and didn't stop until around 5am. They were great!

Live at the Fillmore East is one the greatest rock albums, and I play it often. I had the enormous pleasure of seeing Gregg Allman perform in London before he passed on. And then Dickey Betts. I still cannot get over the premature death of the brilliant guitarist Duane Allman. They wrote and played some of the most unforgettable music.
Because Betts, Hall, Leavell and Trucks never recorded an album, it has often been forgotten in the annals of Southern rock. But members of the group have subsequently held it in high regard. Betts would later recall: "Remember that group BHLT? It sounded like a deli sandwich but it was a pretty good band. But it died; nobody would even let us record an album." Hall has stated, "We toured the country playing all the best venues ... but I think our direction was too varied for some people's tastes." Leavell has written, "We had a strong band, and it cooked. In fact, I've always said in the years since that BHLT was the best band you've never heard of."
I was there that night. They played until 5:00 am. When we left the was coming up. Bitter sweet without SkyDog there. Saw them close on the last night at the Fillmore East with Dwane and company. Went to Watkins Glen , was right up front. Many other concerts with all of them still alive. Only one member left Jay Johnny Jonson. Rest in peace boys.
